Minsk - Belgrade flights in the works

Soon in Belgrade?

Serbia and Belarus are set to sign a new bilateral aviation agreement which will open the door for flights between the two countries to commence. The Serbian Minister for Transport, Milutin Mrkonjić, and the Belarusian Ambassador to Serbia, Vladimir Chushev, agreed for charter flights to be launched between the two countries as soon as the bilateral is signed. Services would operate from Minsk to Belgrade with a further possibility for the flights to continue on to St. Petersburg in Russia. Several years ago it was planned for the national carrier of Belarus, Belavia, to launch winter charters from Minsk to Niš Constantine the Great Airport, however, the airline and hoteliers at the nearby mountain resort of Kopaonik failed to reach an agreement. Thus, the flights never went ahead.

While it is unlikely that flights between Minsk and Belgrade could generate too much interest, the Belarusian national carrier offers an extensive network to Russia which could entice some transit passengers. The Belgrade – Moscow route is one of the busiest operating out of the Serbian capital. Furthermore, Belavia has smaller aircraft in its fleet such as the Bombardier CRJ200 and the Embraer E175.

Meanwhile, LOT Polish Airlines has turned its service from Warsaw to Belgrade into seasonal summer flights only. The airline planed such a move last winter as well but in the end decided to maintain flights throughout the 2011/2012 season. According to the Polish carrier, the flights between Warsaw and Belgrade are highly seasonal. LOT is not the first airline from the region to pull out of Belgrade in recent times. Over the past two year both Ukraine's Aerosvit and Latvia's airBaltic suspended their services to Belgrade. On Monday, Nikola Tesla Airport reduced its handling fees in a bid to attract more airlines. It is the third such reduction this year.

Poland was never in the Soviet region. It was under their sphere of influence. Big difference.

Wow great news! Do you by any chance know the growth for October?
When did BEG handle its 3 millionth passenger last year?

Would be great if it so, but I doubt. According to that source, October generated more pax at BEG than September which has neever happened before. It is more likely that passenger 3m will pass through BEG around November 8

      Delete
    5. Anonymous11:31

That meant that Belgrade handled at least 356.000 passengers in October which means that the growth should have been well over 20%. Is that even realistic?!
What could have fuelled such massive growth in October?

    6. Anonymous11:50

I guess they must have been recording really good results if they reduced the charges once again. I am really happy they have done so because now Belgrade will yield greater profits than before.

Must say that even though it's a nice dream, the info about 3 milionth pax is so untrue. According to my info, BEG is still around 100,000 pax close to 3 mil.

    1. Excuse me, who is that you, or "we" who are already pounding ZAG by 1 mil? Are you, or "we" aware that BEG has 2 mil and ZAG 1 inhabitants. Because of that, BEG should have now being talking about 4, not 3 mil passengers. Are you aware that ZAG is surrounded by VIE, VCE, GRZ, LJU, which are all 1,5-3,5 h drive from ZAG, and that BEG has no single airport of such significance and with such traffic in its proximity, not to mention enormous number of low costs from/to RJK,PUY,ZAD, used heavily by passengers originating from ZAG. Therefore, BEG should have been talking about 5 million now, not 3. And just for the end, both the national airline and Belgrade Airport are inherited from former Yugoslavia, which didn't build airport like BEG in ZAG and didn't permit airline in Croatia, so because of it, of tradition and inheritance, your numbers should have been about 6 millions now. And finally, if we add to all of these that BEG is handling traffic which is in Croatia handled by at least 5 or 7 different airports, you shoul have talked 7 millions, at least. And you may believe it or not, bit I would like BEG to have had 7 million by now. That's why I'm writing this. But because of you, and similar cases, or because of "WE", on all sides in ex-yu, including Croatia, today we are deep and dark bottom of Europe and its airline industry...

I want to see a source other than a Croatian one because I am sure it was overestimated so as to suit the Ustasha agenda which committed a genocide during the war. Second time in the 20th century.

It is also quite cute that Serbia is very presenet in Croatian media while Croatia is non-existent in the Serbian one. I guess that also says a lot about our beloved neighbours.

    8. Anonymous09:48

Of course... there was no war in Croatia, people were not killed, thousands does not have PTSP today, invalids are fiction, we did not rebuild hundred thousands houses, factories were not destroyed...

But sanctions for Serbia… that is lot of money. Of course in same time Serbia did not take billions dollars of staff worth from Croatia like airport equipment etc.

You are not true... Yes I am shame what Ustasha did in WW2, but even more shame is that you celebrate Chetniks and that you say war in Croatia was nothing.

It is not anything special because if Jat did not mess up with their fleet earlier this year, BEG would end this year with 4 million. I am sure wizz air will jack up the numbers with their new destinations.

4 mil if far from optimistic ever for the next year to tell you my friend. If 10% increase continues, 3.4 mppa this year, 3.77 in 2013, 4.07 in 2014. This is of course if we don't get visas back and if economy stays at the same level.

It'll finally connect BEG to Eastern Europe/Caucasus. It's a shame that BEG has only two destinations in Eastern Europe and just one in the CEI. Hope AZAL has more power than Pegasus for not to be turned down cause it would break TK's monopoly on some routes.

Could they finally find someone who can run properly NT?
