Jat’s fleet renewal approved

Jat gets the go ahead to lease new aircraft

Last Friday, the task group in charge of restructuring the Serbian national carrier approved the financial lease of six aircraft (two ATR72s, two A319s and two A320s), which are to enter Jat’s fleet this summer season. The leased aircraft will end the airline’s ongoing fleet shortage which has seen it cut down on flights in the past several weeks. The Serbian government will have to give its final seal of approval for the lease of the aircraft, with the decision expected to be made at the end of February. Furthermore, the task group has announced that talks with the European plane manufacturer Airbus will be continued, with an order for four aircraft to be finalised this year and delivered in 2015.

The airline’s summer season operations rest on the arrival of the new aircraft. Jat plans to boost frequencies on seasonal flights to Croatia and resume services to Girona, Malta, Monastir and London Gatwick. In addition, the airline will operate double daily flights to Paris and Moscow and up to three daily flights on selected days to Vienna. Jat believes it will handle just over 1.5 million passengers by the end of the year.

During 2013 Jat anticipates cutting its workforce down by 600 employees, through voluntary pay leave packages. The airline hopes to have 156 pilots and co-pilots, 200 cabin crew members, 98 ground handlers, 145 staff in sales and 140 head office employees by the end of the year. By cutting down on 40% of its work force the airline estimates it will save up to 4.4 million euros. Jat expects to halve its losses by the end of the year, ending 2013 with a 15 million euro loss.

A long time in the making but ill say THANK FUCK FOR THAT!!!!

Cant say im thrilled about Airbuses entering the fleet due to personal preference but hey at least they done something about there fleet issues and modernise it at the same time....
The 600 staff slashing is music to my ears obviously not great for people out of work but in saying that the company now has a chance to turn a profit and actually become successful. I wonder how big the payouts will be if they are already saying that profit loss will be halved.

Any news on how long the leases will be??? Are they a quick fix for this year or long term till arrival of a paid fleet?

I'm not too happy about Airbuses, but those are new and good planes too. Too bad Boeing is not part of EU.

Why are you not happy with Airbuses? You should all be celebrating in Serbia if you get them! I will only believe jat are getting new aircraft when I see them with my own eyes!

I'm not saying Airbuses are not good aircrafts. I'm just personaly fan of Boeing. I'm very happy for Jat.

And I agree with you. I will only belive when I see new planes with Jat's name landing on LYBE. Nothing is 100% sure in Serbia.

One has to ask why they would be going for Airbus when their pilots and engineering staff aren't qualified to fly or maintain these aircraft?

Also, a 737-600 is $30 million less to buy so they could get 3 737's for the cost of 2 A320's.

Or is it that the Jat pilot are pushing for Airbus so they can get trained up on 320's then piss off and get jobs elsewhere in the world?

    1. Anonymous13:47

Erm.. why would Jat even consider the B737-600? It was a total flop of an airliner, so it has nothing to do with what you are talking aabout.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous14:08

What really makes me wonder is why Jat didn't consider the SSJ100/130 at all, but just AT ALL.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous14:10

Yes but 737-700 and -800 are not flops for sure and they could have obtained them at much cheaper price.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous14:29

Yes but Airbus offered to train the crew, provide additional servicing support... Boeing was not so generous.

"The airline’s summer season operations rest on the arrival of the new aircraft. Jat plans to boost frequencies on seasonal flights to Croatia and resume services to Girona, Malta, Monastir and London Gatwick."

So does this mean that they are already selling tickets for these routes?

Does this also mean that JAT is selling tickets on aircraft that it does not actually have yet?

Or will these tickets become available after confirmation of the leases? Seems to be a very short period of time to secure these leases, with the summer season only 2 months away is there time to find the right planes and arrange finance etc?

I know KLM wanted to start AMS-ZAG and AMS-BEG for one year ago but dident se any profit on the routes.

Well my friend Tarom coveres all romanian hedairports, thats enough because they are connected to Henry Conda Int Airport, If KLM would launch any flights to balkanarea i think they would have offered them thru their website. I know people who have to choose SkyTeamconnections thru France or Italy. Its true that Jat has an codeshareagreement but try to reservate an ticket at klm.com they dont even offer it. I was in contact with KLM just som days ago because of this and i got their response that sad, These flight are not in our interest because of low profittable earning. If somebody wants il send them the mail.

Croatia Airlines has codeshare agreements with the following airlines (* indicates fellow Star Alliance members) as of November 2012:

      Austrian Airlines*
      Brussels Airlines*
      Lufthansa*

KLMs homepage offers me AMS-CDG-BEG or AMS-CDG-ZAG, If they have codeshareagreements they would offer the directly flight to Belgrade or Zagreb. Everybody know to talk for them selfs. I worked at Sabena Technics and we have fixed JAT`SB Boeings alot of times, Flying with these planes is just like beeging to die, Its no matter of time but when an aircrash will happend. I dont see the sunshine for JAT, They are now spending they dont have to lease aircrafts, Why not try to get an loan and buy som used airplanes. Sabena Technics offers two Airbuses(A319-100) used 9 years old to a price of 43 million euros. Its not an opption to just take up loans and think everything will be better, I can only se positively option for OU who i think will suceed in the future. big greetings to the webmaster of this page i will follow every day and read the blog. Already???? You need at least 6 months for type rating (depends of free terms in training centers and simulators).

Let me give you just one example from Jet Flight & Instructor Training Ltd (from London):

The Ground school is conducted at Shoreham Airport.
The Simulator training is conducted at either London Gatwick or London Heathrow Airports.

      - 12 days Ground School including ECAM and FMGS details.
      - 16 hours of Fixed base simulator
      - 36 hours Full flight simulator
      - LST (Licence Skill Test) - 4 hours Full flight simulator

      - Aircraft Base Training (up to a maximum of 6 landings in any one hour)

      Duration of course : 9 - 12 weeks

Please note that MCC can be incorporated into the above course adding an additional three days ground school and 4 hours additional fixed base simulator.

...and yes even pilots who had license of A320, but now flying in 737 must have type rating. And how many pilots with 737 and A320 licenses Jat has?

Unfortunately, I can't, but my friend didn't tell me which libyan airline exactly it was, only that they are already painted and that they are new A320s. So it could be both Lybian Arab Airlines and Afriqiah. since they both have new airplanes.. I can't wait for them to come here, would be a nice addition. Since the same friend also told me that 5 Boeings are meant to be cut, and one ATR is in the hangar and is used for spare parts.

Thats all info i have so far.

If Jat will take wet leasing than what will you do with 150 pilots (you don't need more than 50 pilotes for rest of 737 and ATR planes) and some 400 cabin crew? Than Jat will even loose more money and will be in bigger shit than today!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anonymous00:56

Maybe in the beginning they hire pilots who are not from Jat,
till their own pilots are ready to fly the new Airbus?!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous09:13

So that is called wet lease. But that means:

      - you will pay some 50 pilots to fly in those planes in another 6 months.

      - in same time you will pay 156 pilots, and you don't need at least 60-70 of them + cabin crew. How much is that. At least some 15.000.000,00 EUR in 6 months for those who will get money for not working.

  20. Anonymous04:20

Airbus orders are 15 yaers old, back from paid predeal in 1998. Nobody in Jat wonted them, but they needed to , if they wanted to keep company.
