Wizz Air continues Tuzla expansion

From Tuzla to Gothenburg

Wizz Air has announced the launch of its third destination from Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition to the planned flights to Malmo and Basel, the low cost airline will also launch services to Gothenburg City Airport. The new route launch comes only days after Wizz Air increased frequencies to Malmo from two to three times per week, indicating strong ticket sales. The new flights to Gothenburg will primarily serve the large Bosnian diaspora in Sweden. Services will initially operate twice per week, every Monday and Friday, starting June 17. Tickets are already up for sale on the airline’s website. Further flight details can be found here.

Wizz Air’s swift expansion in Tuzla will be warmly welcomed by the airport which has struggled to sustain scheduled air traffic throughout the year. Tuzla Airport CEO, Enver Jukanović, believes Wizz Air’s flights will stimulate travel in the region. “I am certain that people in Slavonia in Croatia and Mačva in Serbia will use Tuzla Airport, which will contribute to further development to air travel in the Balkan region”, Mr. Jukanović says. He adds, “These flights will boost tourism as the region is known for its natural beauty. The Balkans must forget its differences and work together towards economic development and prosperity”.

During the peak summer season, Wizz Air will be operating flights out of Tuzla, Belgrade, Skopje, Split and Ljubljana to 29 destinations. The airline is soon set to reveal further plans for its Belgrade base and will also continue negotiations with Sarajevo Airport regarding a possible route launch. Wizz Air has now established itself as the leading low cost airline in the former Yugoslavia. It is already the busiest airline operating out of Skopje and the second busiest from Belgrade. With the arrival of over forty new aircraft in the coming years, the low cost airline is set to further grow.

So if I am not mistaken this will most directly impact Zagreb? Many people from both eastern Croatia and Republika Srpska will not have to solely rely on Zagreb now?

Great to see another ex-Yugoslav airport do well.

Well it will impact both Zagreb and Belgrade, as a lot of people from Tuzla region and broader fly through Belgrade to Gothenburg and Malmö.

Excellent news for Tuzla and Bosnia! :)

It will impact BEG mostly and SJJ on lower level. Don't believe that it will impact ZAG that much.

Otherwise north eastern Bosnia is the most populous part of the country (although poorer than Sarajevo-Zenica basin) so it makes sense.

Anyways as somebody said INI is the other airport in ex-yu where it would make sense for lccs to expand.

Yes but Tuzla will attract some passengers from eastern Croatia who, until now, have either travelled from Belgrade or Zagreb.

Great news for Tuzla. For non flights and less then 1000 passangers a year Tuzla become serious player in exyu aviation map. Hopefully INI is next Wizz air base, because same as Tuzla, Nis wasn't interesting for national career and on the end results showing that is worth flying those small airports..

You are right, those smaller airport should be attractive to the lowcost airlines. However the only problem I might see with Wizz Air in Nis is that Sofia is too close and it might take away some passengers.

However, in exactly six day Mistral Air is launching its own flights to Nis. :)

This is such a great news. The airport which is not (YET) in reservation systems (amadeus, kayak, skyscanner)to make such progress is absolutely brilliant. Well done Tuzla Airport and well done Wizzair. Also, some months will be extremely busy (e.g. July) some not, but all in all very good. It is true that these kind of lines take passengers form another airports, but that is not significant, the major thing is it brings new passengers. I know so many people who never flew before e.g. Wizz started flying to Sweden (they used buses!), also it has to be mentioned that it will bring other people visiting Tuzla, Bosnia, region, etc. people notice new routes, book tickets and explore. Ideally Wizz should get one Swiss or German destination from Nis (with BEG based plane), SJJ could easily do with any of the Swedish, Norwegian, German, Swiss city. Tuzla has Malmo and Gothenburg, so Skavsta would be perfect move to start from BNX, and OMO Italy or Poland....... Very pleased to hear this. Greeting from London.

Well Nis is same distance from Sofia like Tuzla from Belgrade, so there is not reason those flight might be unprofitable..Also Tuzla has lots of diaspora which is quite similar market as INI. In relation to MistralAir flights I am not too optimistic cos Triste is nit very popular destination such as Zurich, Vienna, some German destination and even Paris..Good luck to Tuzla anyway

I agree with you regarding INI and Mistral, I know that anything is better than nothing, but what INI needs is some destination with high number of people living in that country/city, so as you said Switzerland, Germany, Austria,..... same with BNX, there is a huge Diaspora in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, etc. Adding the third flight just after two weeks on TZL-Malmo route tells you everything.
