Potential Seoul - Zagreb flights get approval

Croatia and South Korea sign Bilateral Air Service Agreement

Croatia and South Korea have signed a Bilateral Air Service Agreement, paving the way for potential scheduled flights between the two countries. The Korea Office of Civil Aviation initiated the Service Agreement late last year in order to regulate frequencies, designated airlines of the two signing countries, origin and intermediate points, traffic rights, type of aircraft and tax issues. The proposal is said to have come after Korean Air expressed interest in launching scheduled services to Zagreb. The airline has operated charter flights between Seoul and the Croatian capital for several years. Under the agreement, the designated carriers from each country will be able to operate up to seven weekly flights between the two states.

Following the signing of the Bilateral Air Service Agreement in Dubrovnik last Thursday, the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it hoped the agreement can help increase bilateral trade and investment and facilitate people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. The Croatian government said, “By concluding this agreement, the primary assumption is that regular nonstop flights between our two countries will be established”. In 2013, some 75.000 Koreans travelled to Croatia. This number tripled last year, adding up to some 240.000 Korean tourists. The Croatian Minister for Tourism, Darko Lorencin, has said that his country wants to set up scheduled flights to South Korea. “We are seeking to establish regular flights to Korea to cater to a surging number of Korean tourists visiting Croatia”. He added, “Korea is the most important market for us in Asia”.

Last month, Korean Air resumed seasonal summer charters between Seoul and Zagreb. A total of fifteen flights are planned until August 22. The number of services offered has been extended compared to last year, when a total of seven rotations were performed. Croatia has become hugely popular in Korea thanks to a reality show featuring Koreans in their 20s and 30s visiting Croatia’s hotspots. South Korean TV then produced another hit travel-reality show in which several well-known Korean actresses backpacked their way through the country. Korean Air operates flights to a range of European destinations including Prague, Frankfurt, Milan, Rome, Vienna, Paris, Moscow, Madrid and London. Furthermore, the SkyTeam alliance member also has a 44% stake in ČSA Czech Airlines through holding company Hanjin.

Considering the number of destinations QR or TK sell to and from ZAG, and the fact that possible launch of direct ZAG ICN flights would additionally increase the demand to/from Korea - not necessarily a big hit. Plus, I don't really see KE flying daily, and 2 or 3 per week also offer limited capacity.
However, excellent news for Croatia tourism if it happens!

    2. Anonymous23:57

Majority of QR passengers to/from ZAG are Japanese, not Korean

Would be cool if JU and KE sign a code-share between BEG and ICN via ZAG.

However that will never happen because the Croatian CAD keeps on blocking JU applications for code-shares. Latest victim is A3 between BEG and ZAG. Idiots.

      @Q400,

Not next year, perhaps 2017, next year is too early I think.

This year they'll have 12=16 seasonal operations to Zagreb, next year they might up that to 20-24 and than in 2017 twice weekly service is possible.

Croatia has exited recession so things are looking promising, more money for travel and Croats do not need visa for japan and S Korea, so possible holiday destinations for many Croats, who never seen Japan or Korea. So full time service might prove great way of linking two countries.

Unnamed Chinese airline and JAL are set to start charters to Zagreb next year as well, JAL is returning and Chinese airline in question could be Air China.

Right now many in S.Korea are scarred to fly with middle east airlines.
They would happily fly to Zagreb direct and pay more.
The MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) just took first 2 casualites in S.Korea. A man travelling in Middle East and a woman taking care of him in S.Korea (hospital I think).
Won is very strong and people taking overseas vacations to Europe (not frequently and not every year) prefer security over potential health risks even if minimal.
I person can pass the disease to many in the aircraft.

I could imagine KE go 5/7 ICN-PRG-ZAG-ICN. I am confident they could fill 2,5 ac pw. Not unlikely they could also sell the intra-European sector as there is no competition. In that case OK could again serve PRG-NYC-PRG with their only A330 which surely would be mote profitable both for them and their main stakeholder KE.

Egipatska kompanija NESMA AIRLINES i pored pozitivnog zaključka Direktorata više puta dostavljenog i
uplaćena sredstva u punom iznosu preuzeti u Agenciji u kojoj ste uplatili aranžman, naravno, uz uvek otvorenu

esnafsko udruženje YUTA svojim izjavama doprinosilo komplikovanju i konačnom negativnom ishodu ovog
    problema.

    Kolektiv ARGUS Toursa

Hello Argus Tours or whoever it may concern,

I suggest diverting your demands to BHDCA and asking permission to fly to Banjaluka Airport.
Not positioned in but close enough to Serbia.
There is a scheduled 5 time per week JU BEGBNX flights.
Those can be extinguished to daily flights for sure but using much bigger aircraft than ATR72.
