Skopje Airport anticipates strong growth

Busy summer ahead for Skopje Airport

Skopje Alexander the Great Airport estimates its passenger numbers will continue to grow as Wizz Air prepares to introduce five new routes from the city in just over a week and Croatia Airlines launches seasonal summer flights from Split. Macedonia’s two international airports, Skopje and Ohrid, handled 506.271 passengers during the first five months of the year, up 17% on the same period in 2014. In a statement to EX-YU Aviation News, the airport’s operator, TAV, says it is pleased with the airport’s performance so far this year, with further growth expected in the months to come. “We are satisfied with the current growth in passenger traffic and we believe that it will continue to increase through the whole year, as well”.

During the first five months of 2015, Skopje Airport welcomed 490.651 passengers, an improvement of 17.2% on last year. In May alone the airport handled 117.099 travellers, up 7.4%. “The air business is highly dynamic and is constantly changing. The growth in passenger traffic depends on different factors - external factors, such as the price of the oil, GDP growth, and others. We can say that our work is dedicated to concrete targets - attracting new airlines and providing the best service, which is fast, secure and comfortable, to our customers”, TAV Macedonia told EX-YU Aviation News.

A total of fourteen airlines are maintaining scheduled services to Skopje and Ohrid this summer season, with Swiss International Air Lines recently launching flights to the Macedonian capital. Furthermore, another ten carriers will operate summer charters, including Corendon Airlines from Antalya and Nesma Airlines from Hurghada in Egypt. Wizz Air, which is already the busiest carrier in Macedonia, will launch flights from Skopje to Friedrischshafen, Sandefjord, Barcelona, Lubeck and Nuremberg, starting June 29. In addition, the no frills carrier will inaugurate services from Basel to Ohrid, which will complement its existing service from London Luton Airport to the city. “After the achievement of handling over one million passengers at Skopje Airport in 2014, which was a major milestone for us in less than five years since we started operating the airport, this year we have even higher expectations for the development of air traffic in Macedonia”, Zoran Krstevski, the General Manager of TAV Macedonia, says. In 2014, Skopje Airport added almost 224.000 passengers and recorded growth of in excess of 22%. It is expected to replicate this success in 2015.

Good news. If they do set up a national airline at some point they will have strong growth in 2016 as well. But I would love to see some new airlines at Skopje. Over the past few years I think only Alitalia, Swiss and Fly Dubai were new carriers.

OT : AirSERBIA stats for May :
    215.800 passengers (+17% yoy),
    1.360 departures (+10%)
The best performing routes in terms of LF were :
    Paris 86%
    Amsterdam 85%
    Zurich 83%
    Sarajevo and Rome over 80%.
Warsaw and Budapest were the worst routes, as usual.
LF to Abu Dhabi was as mere as 47,5%.

Dear Air Serbia team, How does it come that you have submitted an incorrect passenger list to German authorities for flight JU344 from Belgrade to Stuttgart yesterday (19 June 2015)? At passport control another passenger and I were asked by police to follow them into their office where our ID cards and boarding passes were copied as part of the fine proceedings which have now been initiated against Air Serbia. In any case it was more than embarassing to be taken to the police office under the watchful eyes of all the other passengers instead of being allowed to pass. The police officer also mentioned that this was not the first time you are going to be fined for submitting incorrect passenger lists. ‪#‎PaxEx‬ was terrible indeed. Any suggestions how to make up for this humiliation? Kind regards, Christian von der Ropp'

It is normal to dream about something that's not real yet. People dream about winning football world cup, no hate there, just a wish.
