Winter 2016/17 - Montenegro Airlines

Montenegro Airlines will make minor adjustments to its network this winter season, which begins tomorrow, October 30. Although wide-ranging changes were expected to take place this winter with the signing of a major codeshare agreement with Air Serbia, the deal is yet to be finalised and implemented. It has been suggested that under the agreement, Montenegro Airlines would operate an additional daily flight to Belgrade, however, as it currently stands, the carrier will be maintaining fewer services to the Serbian capital from Podgorica. Furthermore, the airline will reduce one weekly flight from Tivat to Moscow for a total of three per week.

In a statement to EX-YU Aviation News, Montenegro Airlines said operations during the 2016/17 winter season will be maintained with four aircraft. The carrier has four Embraer jets in its fleet and a further two operational Fokker 100s. According to its preliminary schedule, a mix of both types will be used throughout the winter, with 80% of all flights to be operated by the Embraer jets. "Depending on demand on certain routes, the aircraft are allocated to each destination based on a weekly review", the company said. The airline will continue to offer the same numbers of frequencies on services from Podgorica to Frankfurt, Ljubljana, Paris, Rome, Vienna and Zurich.

The 2016/17 winter season runs until March 25, 2017. Please note that the changes listed below are preliminary and based on current availability in the Global Distribution System (GDS). Furthermore, the table below displays the peak weekly frequency on each route during the course of the winter season. Adria Airways, Air Serbia and Croatia Airlines have all made adjustment to their winter networks as well and these modifications can be viewed by clicking on the provided links.

Still no Etihad influence in their schedule...

This is such an underwhelming network. If an lcc based a plane in Podgorica they would be wiped out in a matter of months.

Next year Montenegro will fly without its national carrier!! Croats must wake up or they will suffer teh same fate as people in Mac., soon Montenegro, Kosovo and so on.

National airlines such be nurtured and protected.

Why should they? Neither Macedonia nor Hungary have national carriers and look at their figures. Protecting national airlines days will soon be over.

Wizz Air is a Hungarian company so it's a bit different but Macedonia will be in a big problems soon because W6 will only be there as long as subsidies are in place- better to subsidize a local carrier than.

    5. This topic has been covered many times. Most W6 routes from SKP have been operating without subsidies for a long time. Wizz is profitable in SKP and they aren't going anywhere.

      Delete
    6. Anonymous13:51

      Is SKP profitable with Wizz?
BUD apparently making significant losses. Wizz seems to be profitable there at the expense of Hungarian taxpayers.

      Delete
    7. Anonymous15:31

It doesnt matter if SKP is profitable. It is not a public company anymore, therefore the losses would not be covered by the taxpayers.

    8. Anonymous22:46

Wizz business model is to beggar airports to which they fly. Sort of parasitism.
It matters if the major airport of your capital is not profitable. After years of losses they will run out of money for basic maintenance. BUD is far behind from where it would be if Malev was around.

Thank you anon 10:46m, I think you made a very good comment. Do you think that this will not last for long? Which routes from SKP are the worst and best? SKP has TK already as their almost important national carrier, do you think Wizz can cause impact?

YM has much more to gain from the agreement than JU. YM is trying to survive by using the agreement to milk JU. If they find a way, they will sign. If not, they will walk out.

Because of capacity. Embraers are too large on some routes.

Good point. Again bloody politics the reason. Russia is a big market and they should be very careful with this NATO membership.
On the other hand, 3 weekly flights from Tivat to Moskva is a lot during the winter! That´s pretty impressive.

    2. Milivoje Rodic16:59

So far no influence of that..as russians dont need visa for Montenegro as they do for France, Spain, Croatia, Italy and other european summer destination. Its just most of them moved flights to Tivat instead of Podgorica..

As proof i have printscreen of Tivat airport from beginning of september to show yours russian 'decline' http://oi67.tinypic.com/24kvzf8.jpg

I don't believe it really matters. Russian are traveling to EU and NATO countries as tourists all the time. Manhattan and central London are their two favorite real estate markets. It is true that you don't get that picture if you principally consume Serbian media.

According to Montenegro´s official gov´t website: "YM is the busiest airline company at “Nikola Tesla” airport. MA had 1.452 flights on the routes from Podgorica and Tivat to Belgrade and back, which makes it first on a list of nine most common foreign airline companies at Belgrade airport, in front of German company Lufthansa and Hungarian Low-cost company Wizz Air”, Ms Pejović said.
