Croatia Airlines adds first CRJ 1000

Croatia Airlines has taken delivery of the first of two Bombardier CRJ 1000 aircraft this morning, which are being wet-leased from Spain's Iberia Regional (Air Nostrum) for a period of five months. The first aircraft touched down in Zagreb from Valencia today, while the second 100-seat jet is scheduled to arrive in two weeks time. Both are less than a year old and were delivered new to Air Nostrum last December. "The two aircraft will not only be deployed on our planned new destinations, but also on existing routes during the summer season", Croatia Airlines said in a statement. It added, "Aircraft of the same capacity are expected to be introduced in the airline's fleet to complement the Airbus' and Dash 8s".

The newly arrived CRJ 1000 will operate its first revenue service on behalf of Croatia Airlines tomorrow morning between Zagreb and Copenhagen. The aircraft type will later be deployed on four weekly services to Brussels, three weekly to Dubrovnik, Stockholm, Helsinki and Oslo, as well as two weekly to Skopje and once weekly to Barcelona and Lisbon. Through a wet-lease arrangement, the lessor provides an aircraft, crew and maintenance to the lessee. Last year, Croatia Airlines wet-leased a Trade Air Fokker 100 jet over the summer in order to introduce four new seasonal routes out of Zagreb. The carrier has previously announced its intention of a more permanent lease or even an acquisition of between four to six 100-seat jets, however, these plans have been delayed.

Croatia Airlines currently boasts a fleet of twelve aircraft. Five of them are owned by the carrier itself (four A319s and one A320), while the rest are on lease. Next year, the airline will have to decide whether it will extend the financial lease agreement for its six Dash 8s. Furthermore, Croatia Airlines has four Airbus A320neos on order. The first two jets are scheduled to arrive in Zagreb in 2021, while the other two are due a year later. However, sources claim the carrier is considering an interim lift before the delivery of the A320neos, meaning it could lease aircraft from Airbus prior to 2021. According to its 2015 agreement with the European plane manufacturer, Croatia Airlines is to begin advanced payments for the aircraft this year, while the remainder will be payed upon their delivery.

The vertical stabiliser is in Iberia colours, with large 'CROATIA' sticker on the body, and small print 'Operated by Air Nostrum' underneath.

  11. Anonymous10:22

In my opinion, they should copy what JP has done. Build your fleet around regional jets. There really isn't a need for OU to have A320s and A319s.

They are losing out the charter game and their regional 'hub' model is a joke.
They should concentrate on p2p traffic and these aircraft could be the perfect match.

Yes, I know that routes such as AMS or FRA require extra capacity in summer but with the CRJ-1000 they could operate multiple daily flights AND make money with them.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous10:32

No need for 319 and 320s? Seriously? Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Zurich, Paris, Dubrovnik and Split are crowded throughout the year, not only during summer!

      Delete
    2. Anonymous10:53

If ZRH was that crowded then they wouldn't be using the Q400 on it.

Also, CRJ has 100 seats, it's probably far more economical on those 2 hour flights than the A319.
Also, don't forget that Kucko himself said it that they are losing money on all of their flights in winter. It means that something has to change. Those flights might be full but it doesn't mean they are bringing in the cash.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous17:39

You cannot compare JP and OU. OU is growing and needs different types of a/c.
OU will never be concentrated on P2P pax.
While others are reducing flights and fly with ancient a/c, CRJ brings added value to passangers and company.
FYI - OU will have different types of a/c, incl. A319/A320 neo in the near future, despite of your opinion which is irrelevant.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous21:44

What value does the crj bring? It's here for a few months and that's that. It's not like OU will keep it

Occupancy means nothing if the average ticket price isn't high enough to make the route profitable.
After the loses of the JFK route JU can not afford many other loss making destinations.
Since EY already flies it and it can increase frequencies I don't see why JU shouldn't drop it and use the aircraft somewhere else.

Well, SE Asia connects better with JU on inbound leg - outbound is _much_ better with EY. I guess EY will be adjusting their schedule as well, because if they offer 20+ hrs connections, that would make them kind of uncompetitive.

Having that in mind, JU probably had a healthy part of pax with EY connecting tickets onboard. With EY prices to SE Asia in being between 400 and 600 EUR, I don't think JU ever had a chance to earn a lot on this route.

EK is not sending the A380 for the first flight to ZAG. The amount of crew rostered is for the B773, meaning it can only be either the B773 or B77W - either old product or new/newer product.

As for AUH, JU definately has good yield on the route. This winter, JU prices were almost double that of FZ and JU loads were excellent, many times full. JU main problem, which is network wide pretty much, which is filling business. JU product is by far the worst sent to the ME and will become even more so once the A319's get their 144 seat config!! Will be disappointing if they drop AUH. The 1 EY flight doesnt give alot of flexibility for transfer on JU and JU has done well building up pax numbers.
