Pula Airport sets post-independence record

NEWS FLASH

Pula Airport will handle its 500.000th traveller of the year at midday today, marking its best result since the breakup of the former Yugoslavia. "We have welcomed half a million passengers at Pula Airport for the first time since Croatia's independence. On August 26 we already managed to surpass 2016's end-of-year result of 436.121 travellers. Our overall growth during the January - August period amounted to 31%, keeping in mind that the airport was closed for almost two months due to the overhaul of the runway at the beginning of the year", Pula Airport's General Manager, Svemir Radmilo, said. The airport anticipates welcoming some 600.000 travellers by year's end. It is still shy of overtaking its record result from 1987 when it handled 701.370 passengers. However, the strong growth should be maintained over the upcoming slow winter months with Eurowings recently announcing it would extend its seasonal service between Dusseldorf and Pula to year-round operations. This year, LOT Polish Airlines, Eurowings, Norwegian Air Shuttle, Jet2, Red Wings Airlines and Thomson Airways, British Airways, easyJet and Transavia all launched new seasonal flights to the city.

Well done to the team at Pula. It's time to overhaul the ground equipment and procedures now, we were delayed for 30 minutes because of a lack of fuel truck, there were only two other planes on the apron. If you want to play with the big boys, you need to invest in the goods. Hopefully that will happen next.
