Bulgaria investigates "serious" Air Serbia incident

NEWS FLASH

The Bulgarian Aircraft Accident Investigation Unit is examining an incident involving an Air Serbia ATR72 aircraft on November 26, which it has described as "serious". According to the "Aviation Herald", which monitors aircraft incidents and accidents, the Air Serbia turboprop (registered YU-ALO) was climbing out of Sofia en route to Belgrade when the crew stopped the climb due to a noise coming from the back of the aircraft, which resulted in vibrations of the airframe. The aircraft returned to Sofia safely some twenty minutes following its departure. Subsequent photos of the turboprop show a panel of the wing-fuselage missing. After news of the incident broke late last week, Air Serbia said, "Concerning speculation by some media relating to flight JU123 on November 26, Air Serbia would like to inform the public that at no time were passengers, the crew or the aircraft in any danger". The carrier noted that members of the crew noticed vibrations during the flight and returned to Sofia as a precaution. "It is important to note that the landing was carried out normally, without any issue. Following an examination of the aircraft, it was determined that a panel was missing. It was replaced and the aircraft was soon able to return to operation", it said. However, following its return to the Serbian capital, the aircraft was out of service until December 4. In its statement, Air Serbia condemned parts of the media for their coverage of the incident. "Such situations are not uncommon and happen to other global companies but the approach is not as sensationalist as is the case with parts of our public. It is unclear in whose interest it is to spread panic and we hope this will not be the case in the future. It is one thing to alarm the public if there was some major problem, but it is another to purposefully spread panic", the company said in an official statement.

Classy of Air Serbia. Part of their plane falls off and they have the audacity to blame the media. Heads would roll in the PR department in any normal company.

This guy is so so unprofessional, arrogant and rude. I watched his statement during the news and could not believe his words. What a nerve. A statement anywhere else like that would have resulted in a prompt dismissal.

  2. Lmao they are trying to make it sound like it is a common occurrence for parts to simply fall off a plane in mid flight.

It is actually not that uncommon. Parts of 777/A380 fall off regularly, recently on KLM in Indonesia. Listen to Avherald.

The thing is that only a fraction of peopel in Serbia and the region fly regularly. I know so many who have never flown in their lives. So for that majority, who read the newspapers, it is of course exciting ab scary- sells well ;)

Even if it's a minor thing, this response from them is unacceptable.

Funny, though, how much it follows the model of rudeness in our ruling party's usual responses to criticism.

Some of media reports were inaccurate, blown out of proportions and mean on purpose. I am way more concerned with biased media reporting below minimal fact checking standards than with heated but deserved reaction.

And that is why it was called "serious incident" by Bulgaria authorities, and why they invest it.
