Niš Airport registers record year

NEWS FLASH

Niš Constantine the Great Airport has registered its busiest year on record by handling 331.582 passengers, up 165.4% on 2016. During the year, the airport recorded 1.477 aircraft movements, an improvement of 104.6% and processed 2542.9 tons of cargo, up 29.2%. During 2018, the Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services Agency will put into operation an instrument landing system (ILS) at Niš Airport. The equipment provides guidance to aircraft approaching and landing on a runway during low ceilings or reduced visibility due to fog, rain or snow. Furthermore, a 3.5 million euro expansion of the terminal building is scheduled to commence during the year. Niš Airport estimates handling some 450.000 passengers in 2018.

Bravo INI! I hope we'll see the numbers grow steadily in the next few years reaching 2.5 million pax by 2025. That should be a major step forward for the whole surrounding region and it can be done by greater focus on LCC.

Where do they rank in terms of cargo handled?

  3. Based on which flights do they expect +120000 passengers?
One more destination of FR (Stockholm) comparing to last year but 1 less from GM (ZRH) and W6 (EIN) cannot increase passenger numbers at all

Swiss is also sending larger aircraft such as the A320. I am sure INI management knows what they are doing.

If the dispute about SKP name change does not resolve soon between Macedonia and Greece maybe the INI authorities could approach A3 about starting flights to INI instead.

The Government of Serbia should support efforts done at INI to compete better with SKP and PRN. There is a lot of potential there and I'm sure INI can attract a lot of pax from those airports with proper financial support.

      +1000
But I am afraid the government is laser focused on the Belgrade Airlines project to support a competing airport.

    2. Agreed with you both... BEG has much support from the government. Every function outside of BEG operates at almost 3rd world levels. It’s a shame because they are turning the country into a stopover destination instead of a destination where you can fly into one and out of another airport.

The highest percentage increase in traffic in the entire ex-Yu. I am condifent we may soon see W6 basing an aircraft or flights to DOH.
I think within a couple of years it will soon be comparable to SKP.
    Good luck!

Take it easy amigo, let's be realistic here. Skopje is about three time larger than Niš, with a larger catchment area, not to mention the airport itself which cannot compare to INI.
So, INI will never catch up to SKP, it may narrow the gap in the years to come though. INI dose have a chance to take some pax from SOF, SKP and PRN, even BEG, but at the same time pax from Niš and southern Serbia also use the neighbouring airports.

And passengers from SKP's catchment area can only use SKP while those from INI's can use like five different ones? Sure.
Nis has lower costs and a larger catchment area. Unlike SKP it didn't need to pay Wizz for it to start flying from there.

You did not seem to understand my post. I also said that "INI does have a chance to take some pax from SKP ..." but it seems you choose to ignore that part.
INI offers subsidies in the form of much lower charges, so, same affect as direct gov. subsidies.
      Cheers amigo.

Not really. In INI everyone pay the same while in SKP only W6 received cash so as to open a base there. You seem to ignore that part. Why is that?
