Tehran – Sarajevo

Soon in Sarajevo
Iranian airline Mahan Air will commence scheduled flights from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Airport to Sarajevo at the start of the 2010/2011 winter season, on October 31. As “Croatian Aviation News” reports, flights will operate via Istanbul. More details regarding the airline’s new service are expected in the coming months. The Airbus A300-600 or the Airbus A310 is most likely to operate on the flights.

Mahan Air operates both international and domestic flights from Iran’s main hub and has a fleet of 23, mostly aging, aircraft. The airline had previously operated charter flights to Sarajevo over the years. There is a sizable Iranian community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sarajevo is currently served by 11 scheduled airlines.

If the flights materialise, Sarajevo would be the only city in the EX-YU region to be connected to the Iranian capital. Last year, Croatia Airlines planned to commence seasonal flights to the city but decided not to after political turmoil ensued following the Iranian general election.

    1) Do they have rights to fly passengers between IST and SJJ? I doubt it but it would be good with more competition.

    2) Sizable Iranian community? Hmm I really don't agree on this one. This line won't exist in one year. Trust me :) Only ex-european regular that makes/would make sense is Tripoli due to amount of work that Bosnian companies do in area.

    3) to admin: I hope that second comment will be deleted soon otherwise there is going to be flame war here. Have you considered allowing comments only from registered users?

Anonymus 2, they fly to Dusseldorf from Tehran too, does that mean that people in Dusseldorf are some kinda religious extremistst too? What the fuck dude, what kinda generalization is that? Have you ever met someone from Iran? I persoanlly have 6 good friends from Tehran and they're not religious at all, actually all of them are more of some kinda atheists or agnostics then some islamists. Btw this isn't a political blog, it's about airline industry in ex Yugoslavia. Koji generalizirajuci debil jbt

Some people here are so frustrated that they will look for the tinniest spark, to start the war again. Someone talk about islamist, then he replies about war crimes, and on and on and on.... New generations are coming.. War is OVER. So concentrate on the point here, and that is flight between these two cities.

I dont see the THR-SJJ flights working...unless Mahan can get 5th freedom and fly passengers bettween IST and SJJ. Of the ex-YU countries, ZAG or BEG would be the better option, at least there they could fly direct and in cooperation with OU or JU offer various euro destinations. THR actually used to be a profitable destination for JAT.

    @ anonymous 2

its obvious you have nothing better to do then post racist stereotype messages on the forum. not welcome buddy.

    @ anonymous 4

and your no better than him/her either. just because our former goverment, which never had the full support of its people, made massive amounts of bad things doesnt mean we are all like that!

  10. Look, just to say all sides comited genocide at some point of history, so shut up and talk about aviation! This is not a political blog. The second comment about religious extremists traveling in style should be deleted. I'm very offended.

These fights connecting Iran and Bosnia and Herzegovina could benefit if the two countries co-operated more with investment. Otherwise...good luck! There has actually been great interest of Sarajevans wanting to visit Iran anyways.

  20. Really immature comments. I didn’t have access to monitor the comments until now so all relating to genocide, nationalisms, fundamentalism and so on and so forth have been deleted. This is an AVIATION forum and a really good place where the EX-YU region can be treated as a whole without the mention of the past wars and troubles. So please, if you have nothing to say about aviation refrain from commenting. I apologise to all offended but I was not able to delete the comments until now. Thankyou to all who stayed on topic.

Ridiculous! You should be ashamed of yourself! All of you! I know I would...

If someone tries to pick a fight, the others should ignore that, not to continue idiotic bulls**t!

    @EX-YU Aviation
We all know this is not a forum, but you should try and find some mechanism for not letting this to happen! It's all virtual so everybody can say whatever they want! So childish and immature!

Maybe you should make a change to your blogs name to "ex-yu AVIATION news", that way the accent would be on "aviation". Who knows, maybe it would help :)

EX-YU aviation admin, why don't you open a forum rather cause it's much easier to get rid of these anonymous freaks who write only crap?

Fantastic news for Mahan and SJJ, although operating an Airbus A300 or A310 maybe a bit far feched. I don't think the Turkish authorities will allow for 3rd party rights from IST to SJJ.

I found some intresting information though, it seems that Iran and Bosnia have no visas for travel!

"United Nations statistics suggest, in the space of two months - between 6 June and 6 August last year for example - 3,469 Iranians entered Bosnia through Sarajevo airport, but only 312 went home again."

First of all Iranian community in BiH...non existing. And visas are necessary for both Iranians and Bosnians

I don't know about you but having over 5,000 Iranians reciding in one nation, sort of makes it a community. What is the big deal if Bosnia does have an Iranian populance?
