Belgrade keeps up momentum

Passenger numbers on the rise
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has continued to post impressive results, rounding off its 28th month of consecutive growth. In July, Serbia’s busiest airport handled 409.807 passengers, up 6.6% compared to the same month last year when it welcomed 384.256 travellers through its doors. During the month, the airport also saw its busiest day in history. On the other hand, the number of operated flights to and from the city rose only slightly, by 0.8% to 26.037 flight operations.

With the positive run continuing, Belgrade can expect to break the two million passenger mark in the next few days. In the first seven months of the year Nikola Tesla Airport handled 1.891.789 passengers, an increase of 10% to last year’s 1.719.665 passengers. In the following months the airport will welcome new airlines including Air One, Pegasus Airlines and Qatar Airways. Belgrade is now coming extremely close to surpassing its regional rival, Sofia Airport, passenger wise.

Meanwhile, Serbia’s second international airport, Niš Constantine the Great, had to settle with 3.069 passengers in July, up 12% on last year. So far in 2012, the airport has handled 15.487 passengers, up 23% on the same period last year when it saw 12.586 travellers.

Cyprus Airways had a charter flight from Larnaca to Belgrade this morning. Hopefully we will see a Cypriot airline return to Belgrade. It has been a long time since 2004...

Yes but they were operated by Jat not by Cyprus Airways. Last summer Aviogenex operated a total of 4 flights to Larnaca.

The flights to Cyprus these past few days are because of the football but rout groups from Cyprus are constantly arriving in BEG. They go on monastery tours throughout Serbia.

I agree. SOF gets quite busy during the winter with lots of flights from UK for the ski season. Besides Wizzair are not reducing their frequencies that much as they did with BEG.

Isn't that OTP rather than PRG?

    2. Anonymous22:43

Exactly, there is no point in flying via OTP when they already fly there via Sofia. On top of it all Tarom already flies between Belgrade and Bucharest.
Linking these two cities would be totally stupid. Linking Sofia and Belgrade would make more sense.

Huh? where did you get the impression Qatar was not launching flights to BEG?

So what if there isn't BA in Belgrade, there are other 25 to 30 airlines there, that is more than enough.

If you're going to spend money on interior design, it's probably a good idea to spend another 50 Euros (probably a lot less though) to have a professional check your English grammar. Nothing smacks of amateurism more than poor English for a brief sentence, such as "i'll have sandwich!"
