American Airlines to launch Dubrovnik next June

The world's largest carrier, American Airlines, will introduce seasonal summer flights from its Philadelphia hub to Dubrovnik next year. The three weekly service will operate from June 7 until September 27, 2019 with the 209-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, featuring 28 business flat-bed seats, 21 in premium economy (Main Cabin Extra) and the remaining 160 seats in standard economy. Dubrovnik will be launched together with new seasonal services to Edinburgh, Bologna and Berlin. “Through our Atlantic Joint Business, we have seen increased interest to these markets from the US, and adjusting our network to introduce these destinations will provide more choices for customers on both sides of the Atlantic”, American Airlines' Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, Vasu Raja, said.

As previously reported, American Airlines has been in talks with Dubrovnik Airport over the new service for some time. The carrier currently codeshares on flights from Madrid and London to the Adriatic city via its partners Iberia and British Airways. "This is creating new markets that really no one flies. Even though no one flies it, there isn't the kind of risk that would normally be in a prospect market because, in fact, for years we have operated these markets with a connection in London. So we have some understanding how these markets perform and behave", Mr Raja said. He added, "This is going to create a tonne of new markets, a tonne of new origin and destination connections for our customers and we are excited for the future of Philadelphia".

The new service will mark the resumption of flights between Dubrovnik and the United States after more than 25 years. Prior to the breakup of Yugoslavia, both JAT Yugoslav Airlines and Pan Am maintained seasonal flights between Dubrovnik and New York. The route also marks the first scheduled long haul service from Dubrovnik in decades and the first scheduled service between Croatia and the United States since the breakup of the former Yugoslavia. Philadelphia is the largest city in the state of Pennsylvania which counts the biggest Croatian diaspora in the United States according to the American Community Survey.

I am not your neighbour. AA shuts down some routes just like everyone else. Being big does not mean being perfect. What VP knows better is his ability to downplay the risk of a new market (I don't buy it, just because it worked in PRG and BUD doesn't mean it will work in DBV, risk is still there), and his ability to sell excitement of a "tonne of new markets". I don't buy that either, it's only 45 or so flights for the whole season operated by a 767.

Check the other news section forum. Again the eternal OU vs JU ZAG vs BEG sequel.
      Coincidence? I don't think so.
At the end of the day, we are all aviation enthusiasts and no experts, so having this "Balkan jealousy" was always like that.
Remember the SKP vs INI one? Or PRN?
Take it easy guys. Come on...

You reported on the possibility of these flights, not of them actually happening. Ex-YU wrote about the actual realization of those. Don't forget you also wrote how AF is considering introducing JFK-ZAG flights which was a rumour that someone started in the comment section on here. lol

    13. I did not. I sad there are speculation that AF would open that route, and that I don't find it very real.

This news was today published by several media, American Airlines page included. My information came from very source of negotiation 2 months ago.

    14. ...and than in begging of June, no one even did know Dubrovnik negotiate with American, and that route they negotiate is to Philadelphia.

Some people knew but they where kindly asked not to go public with that info.
You were asked as well but that doesn't matters to you much.

You wrote on speculation and about all sorts of possibilities. Like I said, you also wrote about AF opening the route based on information you got from a comment on this portal. I guess those are your kind of sources. LOL

Long time reader of this blog, first-time poster.

I don't understand why every single post here needs to be riddled with inflammatory comments at worst, or at best comments depicting fierce competition between people of different ex-YU states? Or even why there even needs to be a depiction between these? When will the Balkans get rid of this primitive style of thinking and start acting more civilised?

I am Slovene, and when I see any (any!) good news on this site, whether it's related to Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, BiH or Macedonia I think to myself: "Čestitke!".

I've noticed that at least in my surroundings, feelings of envy (the famous "fovšija") are rapidly being replaced with compersion (people rejoicing on the success of others - "iskreno privoščiti dobro drugemu"). If only it were the same on this forum.
