Ryanair to launch new Podgorica service

Ryanair will be expanding its presence in Podgorica with the introduction of flights from Dublin to the Montenegrin capital. Operations will commence on April 2, 2020 and run twice per week, each Thursday and Sunday. As a result, Ryanair becomes the first airline to link Ireland and Montenegro with a scheduled air service. It will bring the carrier’s number of routes from Podgorica to eight. The low cost airline plans to handle over 175.000 passengers on its flights to and from Montenegro this year, up from 150.000 in 2018. It signalled plans to further expand in the country earlier this summer. Further flight details for the Dublin - Podgorica service can be found here.

Stupid for what? Launching profitable routes? Dublin route will be more for Irish people who comes in Montenegro for Summer Holidays. As Montenegrins need visa to travel Ireland with those to have to be applied in Budapest this is not an easy opportunity. Also Albanians need to apply in Athens for that. So....

If Brexit with Agreement is reached, Ireland will abolish visas for Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, BiH and North Macedonia citizens.

Aha, thought Ireland is part of Schengen and either you need a Schengen Visa or you dont.

No, Ireland is not part of the Schengen.

Ireland had to introduce visas fo Serbia as there is no border control between Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (UK)

Podgorica - the only city in Ex-Yu to have year round flights to Dublin/Ireland. Who would've thought.

Nope. OU is flying to DUB during winter time table. Stops in Feb, but starts in April again. I guess due to A/C maintenance.

FR je zelio ovu liniju otvoriti iz TIV,al mgmnt ACG je itekako revnosan u poslu da TGD ima vise putnika nego TIV.

Speaking of TGD. Is there any plan or outlook for installing jetways there on the new terminal building? It can get two or three jetways as currently its the only capital in the region besides Tirana not to have jetway equipped gates.

The airport only has the ground floor so no jet bridges for Podgorica (and so does TIA if I'm not mistaken).

TGD is the new champion FR airport of the region and becoming already a regional key airport.
Not even BEG has flights to DUB.

FR' massive growth in TGD is bad news for JU.
The more direct and affordable kinks to Europe Montenegro gets the less reliant it will be to BEG and JU. That will drive down pax numbers and prices for JU from TGD.

JU has seen growth in passenger numbers from Montenegro this year.

Yeah, two weekly flights to a place JU doesn't fly are gonna change a lot.

How come you don't see that DBV is gonna be impacted?

As this route only makes sense for inbound tourism wouldnt it be better if they fly to Tivat ?
Or does TGD just profit from congestion at Tivat airport ?

Not all tourists are heading to the northern towns like Budva etc, far more convenient to fly to Podgorica for anything south of Petrovac.
Podgorica is also better placed for visiting the mountain regions.
