Wizz Air welcomed its fifteen millionth passenger in Macedonia since launching operations from the country in 2011. The milestone was celebrated last week upon the arrival of a Wizz Air flight from Dortmund. The lucky traveller received a gift package of travel accessories from airport operator TAV Macedonia, and a 150 euro voucher for future flights courtesy of Wizz Air.
Commenting on the development, Nejat Kurt, General Manager of TAV Macedonia, said, “In the year TAV Macedonia marks its 15th anniversary, we had the pleasure of welcoming Wizz Air’s fifteen millionth passenger, a milestone that highlights and celebrates our fourteen-year successful partnership with the airline. Wizz Air currently operates flights to thirty destinations across twelve countries from Skopje Airport and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport. Together with Wizz Air and the government, we remain committed to further expanding the route network from our two Macedonian airports, bringing Europe and the world even closer to both Macedonian citizens and those from neighbouring countries”. Andras Rado, Head of Communications at Wizz Air, added, “Reaching fifteen million passengers in North Macedonia is a remarkable achievement and a testament to our strong relationship with TAV Macedonia and our passengers here. As market leaders, offering flights to 30 destinations from this country, we are proud to play a crucial role in supporting economic growth, as well as opening doors for business opportunities and encouraging visitors to explore the rich culture and stunning landscapes of North Macedonia”.
Wizz Air operates a fleet of five aircraft from Skopje and holds a market share of over 46% at the airport. In 2024 alone, the carrier served 1.8 million passengers at Skopje and Ohrid.
Congrats Wizz Air. Remember back in the day their market share used to be 60%. Good to see they finally have some competition.
ReplyDeleteThe decrease of WizzAIr's market share comes from the increase of capacity by Turkish companies (mostly Pegasus), that are catering for the market between Macedonia and Turkey. WizzAir didn't have a single route to Turkey, thus I don't think they will be very bothered by the fact that their market share is currently below 50%, as they are still dominant when it comes to the European market.
DeleteIf Ryanair starts flights to Skopje, that will be a completely different story..
Admin, are you able to check what happened with the Skopje - Larnaca route? It was supposed to start in October but no tickets are put for a sale yet
ReplyDeleteIt's just another one of the Ministers announcments and promises which will never happen.

Delete15 million passengers for the size of country Macedonia is good numbers , I think first Covid and then their fleet issue postponed those numbers either then that this would be even higher...
