EX-YU airports respond to Brussels attacks

Tuesday, March 22, 2016

Several airports across the former Yugoslavia have reacted to the terrorist attacks in Brussels this morning.

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has stepped up security in the wake of the Brussels attacks. Police will be stationed at entrances to both Terminal 1 and 2 to maintain vigil, while other entryways will be closed off. Additional security will monitor all exits. In a statement, the airport noted, "All those entering the airport will be checked". Nikola Tesla Airport also said it will significantly increase police patrols around the airport complex and focus surveillance on its two terminal buildings. Due to additional security measures at the airport, all passengers are advised to arrive early.

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport has said its safety procedures remain unchanged as the perceived threat of a similar attack remains low. "Security measures at Ljubljana Airport remain unchanged for now", it said in a statement.

Sarajevo Airport will tighten its security procedures with additional checks of all vehicles, passengers and baggage. "In addition, Sarajevo Airport and the Border Police are also working on other measures which cannot be made public", the airport's spokeswoman, Belma Čureković, said.

Mostar Airport's management will hold talks with the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina tomorrow, after which it will decide whether to step up safety checks. The airport adds that it is ready to act in accordance to any additional measures outlined by state authorities.

What happened in Brussels is terrible but I think Belgrade Airport is going way overboard with all these measures.

You think they expected it? Every airport should take extra measures... At least some simple luggage scanner like in Moscow for example (DME)
