The Ambassador of Ukraine to Serbia, Oleksandr Aleksandrovych, says flights between Kiev and Belgrade are likely to begin next summer season. The Ambassador adds that services from Lviv are also possible some time in the future. Ukraine's Aerosvit Airlines suspended flights from Kiev to the Serbian capital in June 2011 citing "technical reasons". The carrier has since filed for bankruptcy. On the other hand, Air Serbia cancelled plans to launch daily flights to the Ukrainian capital last year due to security reasons. However, it is believed the cancellation came as a result of poor ticket sales, affected in part due to the political instability in the country.
We were just talking about this yesterday with our friend Nemjee. The absence of links between the two countries is pathetic to say the least, especially having in mind Air Serbia's regional ambitions and the size of the given market. ATR to Lvov would make perfect sense.
ReplyDeletewell should Kiev not be the first choice?
DeleteIt should, however the reasons why it was cancelled in the first place are still around today. The ATR to Lvov would be a cheaper and less riskier option, however ideally both should be launched at some point. Personally i would give priority to Odessa, with A319 in summer and ATR in winter.

Putin will not be very happy...
DeleteHow is any service between Ukraine and Serbia even possible? Many airlines are leaving Russia and Ukraine.
ReplyDeleteUkraine is a country of 44 million people.
