NEWS FLASH
Air Serbia plans to reintroduced duty-free shopping on select flights this August. In cooperation with Belgrade Airport duty-free, the airline will offer a select range of products from both local and international brands, ranging from perfumes, cosmetics, confectionary, alcoholic beverages, cigarettes and a number of Air Serbia-branded products. Last year, the Serbian carrier said it was considering reintroducing onboard duty-free as part of efforts to improve the overall passenger experience.
Did anyone on here, ever, buy a perfume on board?
ReplyDeleteI saw some people buy it on Ryanair.
DeleteI see people all the time, especially on flights to Asia, so that's probably why they reintroduced it.
DeleteIts fairly common, insee it often people buy alcohol or parfumes
DeleteOn my latest flight with LOT from Warsaw to Belgrade, a guy bought around 700 euros (several boxes) worth of cigarettes. I guess you just need that one per week to make it worth.
DeleteWow! But wait, what`s the price of cigarettes aboard?
DeleteDefinitely more expensive than the regular price in Serbia lol
DeletePack of cigarettes in UK is around £14 (16 Eur) , so its a no-brainer for someone who smokes to use duty free (on the ground!) to get maximum of 400 hundred cigarettes.
DeleteThat is 2X20 pack max.
(To anon @ 11.30, you were lucky, could have gone wrong by customs)
But the guy was flying to Belgrade, and he bought all those packs...
DeleteOh, my bad! And I would refer to comment trail @11.54.
Delete‘Duty Free’ shops are overall total rip off (compared to ground prices)
You can only bring 4 cartons (800 cigarettes) within EU, and 1 carton (200) cigarettes from in/out of EU. At average of 50€ per carton at WAW he allegedly bought 14 cartons (2800 cigarettes) on that flight. Never happened.
DeleteWhat do you mean? Of course its possible
DeleteMayby he travelled together with people, ive done it when buying alcohol, and distribute among my friends/family im flying with
Anon from 11:30 here. Sorry, my bad, maybe the overall bill was around 700 euros and he bought some perfumes and alcohol besides the cigarettes. I think that he bought at least 5 or 6 boxes of cigarettes. I was also shocked by the sight but I saw it all as I was sitting in the row behind. He was flying with at least one more person.
DeletePoor guy, in the end his card transaction was refused once we landed and he had to return everything. LOL
"efforts to improve the overall passenger experience."
ReplyDeleteMore likely to improve company's revenue. But it's a positive development regardless.
The sole purpose of a company is to bring profit to its shareholders. More news at 11.
Delete^ Exactly! And everybody knows it. So companies should stop with those annoying marketing phrases that try to present this as something completely different than it actually is.
DeleteThen every press release will end with "this will allow us to make more money" and nothing useful.
DeletePassengers from Asia expect duty free on board flights to Asia. You obviously do not understand different markets. There is a very big culture of bringing gifts from trips abroad in Asian cultures.
DeleteWifi onboard would actually "improve passenger experience", especially in business class.
Delete2025 is still too early for JU to offer WiFi on board its aircraft!
DeleteThey offered it from 2013 and no one was interested.
DeleteZnaci Kobra Bane i Neven kravate opet
DeleteThe crews will love this!
ReplyDeleteThere is a solution for the love problem: it's called possibility of rough weather and FSB on consequently. But that's why they hire 20 y old- to exploit them to maximum levels with idiotic ideas detached from reality and created in offices- not only in JU, but globally, on "new aviation"
DeleteIf the pricing of onboard goods will be the same as in BEG duty free than the exercise is pointless and Air Serbia will be just flying additional weight. BEG DUFRY is a rip off, I avoid it in a large circle (as much as I can because they intentionally make you walk through it). The cheapest Serbian wine there is 25 Euro, same one in Tempo is about 15E.
ReplyDeleteBelgrade Airport duty free is one of the cheapest in a broader region.
Delete"duty free" from 2025 has nothing with duty free from 1980s
DeleteThat's very true. Average DF sales on Baghdad flights with JAT were 6.000 USD. 40 years ago. Pursers on BGW flights used to earn additionaly half month salary just on DF comission for that one flight
DeleteThe Dufry shop in BEG is a rip-off on some items (like wine), but they have genuinely great deals on others such as fragrances. I was shocked to find my favourite brand sold at 300€ when the retail price in Paris is 365€.
DeleteThey will introduce any kind of useless service before they give passengers what they really want: a frequent flyer program and a dense year-round network.
ReplyDeleteExactly. More frequencies are needed on most routes. LH group is eating their lunch with business travellers.
DeleteThey are working on it, no?
DeleteNot really. Most of their destinations have less than double daily frequencies.
DeleteMost of the destinations didn't exist a couple of years ago. So yes, they are working on the network. You do not introduce a destination with 14+pw from the start. In my opinion they are growing really good.
DeleteIs this service available on any A330 routes?
ReplyDeleteIf they are cheaper than duty free at Dufry then this work for alcohol
ReplyDeleteIdemo dalje...
ReplyDeleteTry to sell Rakija.
ReplyDeleteYou don't sell rakija. You drink rakija 🙂
