Banja Luka Airport is in talks over the introduction of a new intercontinental service, to Africa. Its General Manager, Zoran Injac, said, "We have plans to introduce one new route to Africa, however, it is too early to give any details". The airport is looking to extend its portfolio of destinations following its revival last October, when Ryanair introduced flights from Charleroi, Memmingen and Stockholm Skavsta. "This summer we will offer two weekly charter flights to Turkey and one weekly to Greece. In addition, Ryanair will introduce flights from Berlin, while Air Serbia will maintain five weekly services from Belgrade", Mr Injac added. The leisure flights to Turkey will operate to Antalya and in Greece to Athens.
Banja Luka Airport is also currently in talks with Russian carrier IrAero over potential services from Moscow. "At this point, we can say there is interest from the Russian side. We will do everything that is in our power for this route to be successful", Mr Injac said. However, the General Manager noted that Ryanair remains the airport's most important customer, "The partnership we have with Ryanair is most valuable for Banja Luka at this moment, and we expect to expand this cooperation in the coming period". Mr Injac previously teased of a major "autumn surprise" for the airport. The low cost airline said it will help deliver over 135.000 customers through Banja Luka in 2019.
Bosnia and Herzegovina's third busiest airport is also looking to develop cargo traffic with its General Manager recently signing an agreement with the Minister for Transport and Communications of the government of the Entity of Republika Srpska to overcome delays concerning the construction of a cargo centre. A deal has also been inked with contractors to continue work on the facility. Work on the cargo depot was halted in 2017 after inspectors determined that the construction site did not comply with requirements set out in the contract documents. The cargo terminal will be 900 square metres in size and is valued at 670.000 euros.
Africa?
ReplyDeleteMy guess is Egypt.
DeleteIf INI can get HRG flights then BNX can too. I wonder which seconday ex-YU airport will be next to be linked with Egypt? My bet is OHD.
DeleteTunesia maby?
DeleteBNX is extremely smart to have secured summer charter traffic, JU will go from 1 to 3 weekly flights. That's fantastic. I can't wait to see the schedule.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for Tuzla as their dream run seems to have come to its end. February saw another passenger drop from 35.976 to 30.658. I don't think there is much they can do right now.
As for Africa, maybe we could see HRG-INI-BNX next summer?
Tuzla's decline has nothing to do with Banja Luka. It started when Wizz Air suspended 5 routes which it did in winter at the same time Ryanair started Banja Luka. But in fact none of the routes that are served from Banja Luka have been suspended from Tuzla.
DeleteTZL is still very much on a dream run compared to BNX. They already proved to be able to handle 600.000 passengers a year.
DeleteIn case of BNX it's quite easy to show off statistics if your last year's base is close to zero... Check back in a few years, not everything will be this rosy.
Why wouldn't it be rosy in a few years? If it has been rosy for Tuzla with Wizz Air, why couldn't it be rosy for Banja Luka with Ryanair?
DeleteNot only Ryanair but BNX has summer charters while TZL never had those.
DeleteTuzla has charters to Antalya each and every year.
DeleteNope, there were none last year and none are planned for this summet.
DeleteThis is absolutely not true. You obviously have no idea. Freebird airlines operate charters from Antalya. Total of 15 are scheduled for this summer. 3 in June, 5 in July, 4 in August and 3 in September. Flights operate on Tuesdays.
DeleteLast year charters operated from June 12 to August 28 with Freebird A320.
Please don't write things you know nothing about.
Is there a source for your supposed claims that there were charter flights?
DeleteAlso, Tuzla did not manage to have 600.000 passengers, ever, even with massive backing of the Canton. It reach 584.000 passengers and numbers started to decline from October. TZL already lost some 10.000 passengers so in 2019 it will have around 510.000 passengers.
Umm my own eyes are the source. You basically claimed how there were no charters to Antalya last year and that there will be none this year which are both blatant lies since you are completely uninformed.
DeleteOh and if you need further proof of how uninformed you are:
"Turkey's Freebird Airlines is running summer charters from Antalya to the Bosnian city as of last month".

Last Anon you are wrong, tzl is negotiating with companies to have 5 weekly charter flights to various Turkish destinations. Great things are to come but you have to be patient.
DeleteOnce again this proves nothing, it says that they plan on operating them, we don't know if they went through with the plans. TZL tends to be unpredictable.
DeleteAlso just because you saw a plane at the airport doesn't mean it was regular flight, maybe it was diversion. Or does it mean any plane that lands in Tuzla is there because it somehow magically launched flights. :D
There was never Freebird flights to TZL on the announcements on the right and there are no news of the actual launch, that is why I am asking you if those actually happened or if they were only announced.
DeleteFor the sake of ending an unnecessary discussion, charter flights were operated on a regular basis from Antalya to Tuzla last year. There were no special announcements or articles as Freebird Airlines charters from Antalya to Tuzla have been operating since 2015, with the number of rotations increasing over the years. These charters were noted in several articles concerning Tuzla Airport last year.
DeleteA little early for April Fools Day jokes.
ReplyDeleteDid you even read the article?
DeleteSure did.
DeleteSJJ could learn a thing or two from new BNX management.
ReplyDeleteBanja Lucki aerodrom mora odmah zavrsiti gradnju kargo terminala. ✈
ReplyDeleteRodney, Son & Co. ✈☺✈🌞✈🌍✈🌏✈🌎✈🌐✈
Hahaha!
DeleteWhat about Mrkonjić Grad?
DeleteI am getting extremely worried about the passiveness shown by ZAG.
ReplyDeleteIn just a matter of 1 year, BNX has secured so many options given the size of the airport. This is a greater success story similar to INI.
Now that FR has reborn the Buzz leisure airline, we might see Polish routes to BiH or even UK ones.
This yellow bee may appear in the very near future, if not BiH, then maybe Crna Gora.
VERY GOOD BNX! All the best of luck and applauses for this potential, regional game changer.
ZAG can't do much until OU pulls its act together. Bringing LCCs like BNX, TZL, LJU... might kill their biggest customer.
DeleteI don't get this obsession by some here that someones development or the opening of some route will hurt, destroy or impact someone else.
DeleteThis is not just with ex-YU it's present in all countries when several airports are within the same catchment area. You just don't follow other aviation portals to know.
DeleteNo, here it has more to do with that saying "da komsiji crkne krava"
DeleteIt took you whole 25 minutes to bring ZAG to the story! C'mon, pull your act together dude!
DeleteBNX obsession about ZAG is absolutely fascinating.
DeleteYou're talking like there's no end of BNX success, that the only way is up and that BNX will steal tens of thousands of travelers from airports in the radius of 250km. There were the same praises regarding INI couple of years ago when they started getting regular flights and now they are on the downhill again.
BNX has the potential from its catchment area to grow a lot.
DeleteIni will be back to growth from April. Malmö suspension affected them quite a bit. So Frishki enjoy this situation while it lasts.
DeleteYou see, Anoymous wisea$$, I did not loathe over INI's current situation as you would LOVE to think, but merely pointed out how INI once was a Balkans' prodigy airport and now the stardome slowed down. Keep your words out of my mouth.
Delete@frishki you should have realised by now that the INI&BNX famboy is the same person
DeleteImpressive developments from BNX.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this "autumn surprise"? I think it is way too early for Ryanair to be basing a plane there.
ReplyDeleteI hope they launch Eindhoven-BNX.
DeleteMy guess it involves FR opening a few more new routes (not a base).
DeleteMaybe Air Srpska :-).
DeleteFor example IrAir base 2 SSJ100 on BNX and become shareholder of NewCo... Could be good for both sides (and sell additional 2 SSJ100)
OK, I dreaming now, but save this comment to the autumn :)
Great job BNX. It's really nice to see them grow like this.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Charter flights are welcome.
ReplyDeleteAir Cairo from/to Hurghada during summer.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe Aviolet to Hurghada/Sharm.
DeleteAir Serbia, not Aviolet. Aviolet can't make it to Egypt.
DeleteWhy not?
DeleteJU's B733 were flying BEG - DXB, they sure can fly from BNX to Hurghada or Sharm
Yes but there was always a stop to Dubai.
DeleteWell, they already have flights to Asia.
ReplyDeleteYes to Antalya.
DeleteI hope that Laudamotion will come in autumn to BNX with DUS, STR and VIE. Sasa Vlaisavljevic is responsible for big success BNX
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think about Buzz, amigo?
Deletehttps://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/ryanair-resurrects-buzz-brand-for-polish-airline-ope-456643/
Maybe KTW-HRG-BNX WMI-SSH-BNX or something like this.
Air Cairo/Fly Bosnia could start charter flight from BNX - HRG with touristic agency kontiki.ba who is responsable for charter flights ATH and AYT every 10th day
ReplyDeleteWhy? Kon Tiki is a Serbian company and they already cooperate with JU. There is no need for Air Bosnia in BNX.
DeleteWhy is there no need? BNX is a Bosnian airport, its only normal for FlyBosnia to fly from there. BHairlines flew from Zurich to BNX anyway.
DeleteThere is no need because it makes sense for Kon Tiki to keep on working with JU as they do for flights to Turkey and Greece from BNX. Why should they drop them for some Arab airline from Sarajevo? Makes zero sense.
DeleteKon Tiki will also operate BEG BNX charters from April. It's a first.
DeleteThat's fantastic but I don't know why they don't fly them on scheduled flights from BEG. Great news for BNX. I wonder if FR would have success if it could operate BNX-BEG.
DeleteYou could also argue that Air Serbia is an Arab airline from Belgrade since Arabs gave life to it
Delete18:44 +1 Upravo tako.
DeleteThere is nothing to argue. Serbia is majority owner of Air Serbia, they injected more capital, they have majority control and they manage it.
DeleteLet's get real here, it was Serbian taxpayers that gave life to Air Serbia. Also, as someone who has a lot of family in Srpska, I can safely say that around 90% of the local population would rather fly on Air Serbia than Air Bosnia, especially these days with what's going on. Furthermore, KonTiki is owned by Big Blue (if I am not wrong) and they already have a great partnership with JU, both in BEG and in BNX.
DeleteWow the great news for Banja Luka just keeps rolling.
ReplyDeleteThey will need to expand facilities if they keep going this way.
DeleteThis is great to hear. Good luck BNX.
ReplyDeleteOnly airport in BiH left to get itself in shape now is Mostar.
ReplyDeleteWhich other airport in ex-Yu is not equipped with night-time flights equipment besides TIV? Is it also BNX?
ReplyDeleteBanja Luka is equipped for nighttime landing.
DeleteThanks. What about the terminal building? This is the last piece of news I found:
Deletehttps://www.exyuaviation.com/2016/09/banja-luka-airport-to-expand-terminal.html
Has it been completed?
Late Jolly tours of Belgrade tried to organize HRG charters some fifteen years ago, but 727 was far too big for the demand back than. MIR was also tried unsuccessfully once by a local agent. Maybe they could function now after all, since AYT was not a huge success either when Fibula originally started it.
ReplyDeleteFrom Banja Luka?
DeleteMa daj , nemoj me batije, do jucer niste imali za plate ni takse nisu bile dovoljne a sada hoces interkontinentalnu rutu !?! Ko visoko leti ...
Zurich (swiss, edelweis...)
Wien (austrian ili jos bolje Lauda)
Amsterdam ili Eindhoven (transavia)
Göteborg (ryanair ili mozda neku drugi lcc)
Malmo (isto.kao predhodno)
Frankfurt
London (barem ljeti...)
Zna li neko nesto o ovome?
