The month ahead is poised to be a challenging one for Croatia’s busiest airport. Traditionally the slowest of the year, this February will prove even tougher due to the worsening epidemiological situation across Europe and evolving travel and entry restrictions. At this point, nine airlines will run commercial flights to Zagreb Airport next month, operating a total of 729 flights (both directions included) and offering 65.560 seats. The figures represent a 71.3% decline in the number of operated flights and a 76.9% decrease in offered capacity. Unlike last February, Lufthansa, Aegean Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Aeroflot, Iberia and Flydubai are no longer present on the market, while Ukraine’s Windrose Airlines is a new entrant which did not operate flights to the Croatian capital last February.
The only airline that will increase its operations to Zagreb next month compared to last year is KLM, however, it will be significantly less than initially planned as the carrier has cancelled the introduction of a second daily flight as a result of new measures introduced in the Netherlands to combat the spread of the coronavirus, including a night-time curfew and a ban on non-essential travel. Instead, the airline will operate between six and seven weekly flights from Amsterdam to the Croatian capital. Capacity on the route will remain unchanged on last year due to the use of the Embraer 175 aircraft instead of the slightly larger E190. Qatar Airways will see the biggest reduction in flights with just two weekly rotations to be maintained, while Eurowings will significantly slash operations, maintaining flights only to Cologne. Last year its network from Zagreb also included Berlin, Stuttgart and Dusseldorf.

This February, the greatest number of flights from Zagreb will be operated on domestic routes, to Split and Dubrovnik. Frankfurt remains the top international destination in terms of both flights and capacity. The service is currently solely operated by Croatia Airlines. Dubrovnik takes top spot in terms of seats offered from the Croatian capital next month. Although KLM will have more flights than Turkish Airlines to Zagreb, it will offer less capacity, with the Turkish carrier to deploy a combination of Boeing 737 and Airbus A320-family aircraft to Zagreb in February, including the A321.
