Montenegro Airlines introducing Vienna - Tuzla service from December 21 |
Montenegro Airlines will introduce flights from Tuzla to Vienna next month, in line with the carrier's plans to expand its operations within the region. The route, which will operate twice per week, will be officially presented at a press conference in Tuzla today, which will be attended by the CEO of Montenegro Airlines, Daliborka Pejović, representatives from Tuzla Airport, as well as the Prime Minister of the Tuzla Canton, Bego Gutić. The new service will commence on December 21 and operate twice per week, each Monday and Wednesday. Montenegro Airlines will not connect its hubs in Podgorica and Tivat with Bosnia and Herzegovina's third largest city as it plans to operate the flights with the following routeing: Podgorica - Vienna - Tuzla - Vienna - Podgorica.
The new service to the Austrian capital marks the first agreement made between Tuzla and a commercial carrier other than Wizz Air in more than two years and the tenth destination to be served from the airport. A significant Bosnian diaspora resides in Austria, with the new flights to commence just in time for the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Tuzla Airport has struggled to attract airlines and passengers since it opened its doors for commercial use in 1998. However, its fortunes turned in 2013 when Wizz Air launched its first service from Malmo. Flights quickly proved popular and the no frills airline expanded its network. In 2014, the airport handled 151.353 passengers, a notable 146% increase on the year before. The airport welcomed more passengers last year than it did for the three previous years combined. During the first ten months of 2015, Tuzla Airport continued to see its passenger numbers grow with 219.185 travellers handled, an increase of 74.7% compared to the same period last year. It has already overtaken 2014's end-of-year result. The airport initially planned to handle some 200.000 travellers this year, although this figure has now been surpassed.
In September, Montenegro Airlines said it was looking to expand regionally and forge closer ties with carriers within the former Yugoslavia. The airline noted its plans to establish flights to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo and Macedonia over the next year. Within the former Yugoslavia, the carrier currently runs services only to Ljubljana and Belgrade. Recently, it was announced that it would operate charters to Zadar to cater for Chinese tourists visiting Montenegro, however these services have yet to materialise. Last week, the airline signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Strategic Commercial Cooperation with Etihad Airways. The deal gives Montenegro Airlines access to Etihad’s global network of destinations and will allow the airline to use the Emirati carrier’s resources in order to improve fleet utilisation during the slow winter months.
Montenegro Airlines maintains three weekly flights from Podgorica to Vienna this winter season and boasts a codeshare agreement with Austrian Airlines on the route. Further details for the new Vienna - Tuzla service can be found here.
UPDATE
At today's press conference, Montenegro Airlines said it anticipates for the new service between Vienna and Tuzla to become a success. Initially, the airline will operate a total of forty flights, until the start of the 2016 summer season in late March next year. The carrier's CEO, Daliborka Pejović, said, "We are delighted that Montenegro Airlines will have a role in developing air travel in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is in our interest for this new route to become a success. We hope that today marks the start of a successful partnership, which will result in improved regional connectivity. I honestly hope that we will help Tuzla Airport become even recognisable in the region".
It's good that TGD passengers won't have the additional stop in Tuzla, while passengers from Tuzla also get their nonstop flights.
ReplyDeleteOh so that's why my morning flight from Vienna next month got moved to the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteApparently this is the site for purchasing tickets:
ReplyDeletehttps://mysky.ba/
VIE-TZL starts at 49.58 euros and TZL-VIE starts at 19 euros.
Very reasonable starting price in my opinion. Hard to tell if they can profit from such low fares. I wonder if subsidies are offered.
If this works out for MGX, they should copy paste this for INI.
From now on, BNX management board will say BNX is too close to TZL and for that reason it is impossible to get PAX at BNX.
ReplyDeleteAs far as BNX is concerned, it is high time both the Managing and Supervisory board, together with the assistant Minister, were dismissed.
DeleteI wonder how much money Tuzla has offered for these flights and whether Wizz Air is too happy about it.
ReplyDeleteSurely not more incentives to YM compared to Wizz...
DeleteThe people responsible for BNX airport must really be the most incompetent airport "managers" in the European continent by far and I would suspect Africa too.

Delete+1
DeleteJU isn't a hindrance to having more lines at BNX. It is bribery and corruption continuously present in the Republic of Srpska Government and, therefore, in their Ministry for Communication and Transport Affairs which consequently leads to incapable Supervisory and Managing boards what definitely causes incapable employees enjoy themselves at many important positions in the airport operator. To cap it all, at that airport, all walls have ears. By and large, BNX will not move a badge.
DeleteDa do kraja 2016. godine.
DeleteIs it possible that the demand for flights to Vienna is higher in Tuzla region rather than in Banja Luka region ?
ReplyDeleteDemand for flights to everywhere seems to be higher from every other airport in Bosnia .
DeleteThe only airport of the Republika Srpska is way behind from all 3 airports under Bosniak Federation control.
So no, it is not the market. It is the terrible incompetence of those responsible for this airport.
Congratulations to Tuzla airport, the locals made it a great success and things are only going to get better!
Additionally, BNX is closer by car/bus to Vienna. More pax will use the plane from TZL rather than driving.
DeletePersonally I'd have preferred an OMO link but I am still happy for Tuzla and the Viennese diaspora.
If this route proves popular one can be sure that OS will kick out YM soon with their more efficient Dash 8-400s.
"Additionally, BNX is closer by car/bus to Vienna. More pax will use the plane from TZL rather than driving."
DeleteWhat a stupid observation.
What is the difference. 200, 230 km? Yes, for sure that is the reason!!!! Congratulation!
DeleteBolje biti i bez letova nego da leti polu prazan avion Ponedeljkom i Sredom .
DeleteINN-NS
It is not. Diference is 88 km via Budapest and Osijek, or 109 km via Graz and Zagreb:
Delete- Vienna - Banja Luka 559 km
- Vienna - Tuzla 647 (668) km

The incompetence of the BNX authorities is even bigger that first thought....

DeleteOpet cu reci bolje nemati let nego polu prazan avion Ponedeljkom i Sredom.
INN-NS
@12:30 you should go play with your Gameboy.
Paralelno sa time broj putnika u okruženju (SJJ, OMO, TZL, OSI, ZAG) ozbiljno raste.
Anonymous November 12, 2015 at 2:47 PM
Delete+1000
BNX zaradjuje novac dok ga ostali aerodromi gube. Got it?
DeleteINN-NS
LOL!
DeleteBNX is earning money from three ATR's a week to BEG!
zaradjuju novac od robe ne od putnika.
DeleteMože li iko bar približno reći koliko bi usluga landinga i handlinga 45 T sirovog, ohladjenog mesa koštala na beogradskom, zagrebačkom, ili sarajevskom aerodromu? Pun avion ukupno težak 175T.

Deletedo you mean ICAO codes? Only a fool tries to keep them all in the fools mind.
220 000 passengers untill October in Tuzla, fantastic news!

DeletePlease give us flights from INI to Vienna!

DeleteDoes anyone prevent or block any EU-based carrier from opening the INI-VIE route?
DeleteYes empty pockets of people from Nis and other towns around it.
DeleteCheap flights from Nis confirmed that INI have passenegers. VIE have big potential from INI.
DeleteINN-NS
Every passenger flying from INN is one less passenger flying with JU from BEG.
DeleteThe government can not allow that....
@Anon 1:38
DeleteThe development of airports like Tuzla, Pristina, Mostar, Ohrid, Zadar, Pula, Podgorica show emphatically what can be done.
The state of INI shows also emphatically what is the situation if you just shit on your @ss all day doing nothing because you have different priorities.
Just like BNX airport.

Naravno i opet glupost u realizaciji.
I meni tu zapravo nije jasno koga vraga radi Croatia?
- istovremeno putnici mogu preko ZAG odraditi apsolutno sve konekcije
DeleteAs I understood those are scheduled charter flights organized by mysky.. Montenegro airlines is just an operator, or am I wrong?
ReplyDeleteSeeing as their CEO is coming out to Tuzla for a press conference I doubt they consider these as just charters.
DeleteBTW prices are crazy cheap. How is this profitable?

INN-NS
I see people talk about Banja Luka not being able to attract carriers. Maybe Banja Luka just wants to protect ASL and not have any other competition for ASL from Banja Luka. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteThey didn't have any flights before Air Serbia either.
DeleteJA (Joke Airlines) were flying between Banja Luka and Zurich.
DeleteYeah and they are grounded because their AOC got revoked by Federal authorities in Sarajevo not Banja Luka Airport
DeleteOwing to the fact that BNXZUR was profitable, current BNX managing board had to have found a replacement when BH Airlines stopped its operations. But they didn't. What could they be used for? I have no idea!
In my opinion, programmed long-haul BEGJFK flights aren't in the essence Air Serbia's but Etihad Airways' big deal. Alone, Air Serbia wouldn't be able to lunch such flights for at least two decades from now on for being a small country in which bribery and corruption, in parallel with organised crime, have dismantled its economy what consequently led to much smaller gross domestic product per capita in Serbia and much emptiest citizen's pockets . But, taking Air Serbia's code-share agreement with Etihad Airways into account, there could be enough seats booked in because of potential transfer PAX to and from Abu Dhabi, the rest of the Near East, besides Romania, Bulgaria, Russia, and so on, but it can't be guaranteed of course. Many things will change in the close future so time will tell. What can be said for sure, BEGJFK flights will boost Etihad's AUHBEG flights.
DeleteConcerning BNXBEG flights, currently, BEGBNX route is somehow sustainable for Air Serbia, especially thanks to the fact that airline has been exempted from paying any airport taxes at both BEG and BNX from the word go. If JU now started to pay the taxes, its interest would be smaller, it means, the route wouldn't be as wanted but it would still make some pocket money, and the route would still provide PAX for JU's international flights to many other destinations. Of course, concerning that route, Air Serbia has got a problem associated with the unavoidable alternation of the winter and summer season flight frequency, mostly due to dismantled economy of the Republic of Srpska and so depending on the PAX living and working in the EU who rather increase their travels to the RS during the holiday period in the summer and not in the winter.
On the other side, BNX can not at all survive from just one route compressing three flights per week to BEG even though those cargo flights to Istanbul are taken into account. It seems to me, BNX managing board is lulled with that airfreight. They might consider the deal as their success even though, in essence, it isn't true at all. Neither the BNXBEG flights nor the mentioned airfreight are their merits. Also, their approach to this line of work is for sure wrong for such cargo deal will not last forever. Comparing to three other airports from the B&H environment, it's obvious, the PAX both wants and needs are different to what the managing board guys offer. Also, the number of passengers has plummeted comparing to last year so we can only come to conclusion these guys aren't capable of managing the airport. And, if 50% is true of what can be read on the internet forums regarding that airport, those guys have to be dismissed for many other reasons as well; together with the guys from the supervisory board and the assistant minister responsible for the civilian air traffic of the Republic of Srpska as well. The last hope for this airport is the new minister, who took over the Ministry for Communications and Transport a year ago, will at length withdraw certain steps...
Absolutely! If there is an empty airport or an underserved market anywhere in Europe, it is all one huge conspiracy to protect ASL from the competition!
ReplyDeleteYou people really, seriously, urgently need some professional help.
But on those empty airports Air Serbia is not flying with subventions of local government.
