The head of the Agency for the Promotion and Support of Tourism in Macedonia, Ljupčo Janevski, has held talks with the Croatian Minister for Tourism, Gari Capelli, as well as representatives from Croatia Airlines over the potential launch of flights between Zagreb and the lakeside town. Some 22.600 Croatian tourists visited Macedonia in 2018, while 35.600 Macedonians travelled to Croatia. Croatia Airlines will maintain twelve weekly flights between Zagreb and Skopje this coming summer season. In 2015, the airline introduced a seasonal one weekly flight between Split and the Macedonian capital, however, the service was shortlived and cancelled after just two flights.
I wish both OU and OHD all the best in the creation of this route.

ReplyDelete36k Macedonians tourists to Croatia... that's it? This figure sounds low. I also wonder if a DBV-OHD route would be a better option. ZAG is already connected to SKP. Driving to DBV from Macedonia is way to difficult relative to the distance.
ReplyDelete36k is indeed low compared to the almost 3mio visits to Greece but its an improvement (in the low double digits).On the other side there was +40% Croats last year. I dont think DBV is an option because all the macedonian travel agencies sell stuff mostly for around Split (Makarska for example) . The OHD route is aimed for incoming hr tourists. OHD-DBV would rely solely on foreign tourists which is unrealistic for now.
DeleteSKP-SPU with the same prices like ZAG-SKP could work (with a litle help from mk travel agencies offering paket aranzmans for Makarska, Brac itd)
a 2-3 weekly Dash 8 shouldnt be a problem to fill from May-Sep when you look at last years tourista numbers

^Mostar is a political route for the Mamici and Bandici so that they can evade police just in time.
DeleteEven if flights to Western Europe are heavily subsidized we prefer them much more than profitable flights to places in Eastern Europe we never heard of, we dont want to know of and we would never touch with a long stick even if we were paid for!

For the Croatian public? Sure then maybe first thing it should do is suspend all charter flights from the coast and concentrate on gasto routes that favour Croatian public.
DeleteOf course they should do so! I see no point to fly to places which are for transfer pax only. The need to fly more frequently to major EU destinations, that's what they're paid for by Croatian citizens!
