The expansion and modernisation of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is continuing to advance, with extensive reconstruction of the area in front of the terminal building now taking place, which includes the modernisation of access roads, parking lots and the extension of the terminal to make place for centralised check-in and security procedures. This part of the project involves the shifting of the existing drop-off and pick up area and the extension of the check-in hall through the construction of a completely new zone. Check-in will be centralised with some 100 check-in desks. Passengers will then proceed to the first floor for centralised security checks, after which they will enter a large duty-free area.
The airport is also testing different features of its recently completed expanded C concourse wing, including air bridges, prior to it being opened to the public. The new arrivals floor, a corridor, which will be used by all arriving passengers to make their way to immigration and baggage claim, will also see each gate feature a famous Serbian personality, which will be inscribed on panels at the arrivals gate.
Work on the existing Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 buildings are continuing to take place, both in the check-in and departures area. The construction of the arrivals corridor, or a new floor, is also advancing.
Progress on the new 3.500-metre-long runway is being made, with parts of it now paved. It is expected to be completed in October or November of 2022 at the latest. The airport is using a new premium range of ready-mix concrete for the runway, to make it more durable.
The new control tower, a separate project being carried out simultaneously by the Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services Agency, is also advancing with construction work expected to be completed soon.

DeleteI guess it will be opened in February, using national holiday as the occasion very convenient for politicians to do the opening. 😁
DeleteElections are on April 3 so it makes sense they will open it for the first day of 2022 summer season - March 27.
DeleteFor new C extension to be open they have to complete construction of the third level and integrate it with transfer zone. There is no way it can be done in three months.

DeleteNo they didn't and there is no need for desinformation. They said they would decide wheather to open it at the end of 2021 or in spring 2022. You can read that in an article here dated August 2020.

Some people here are so obnoxious. Even if the project is late a month or two which it is not. Just look at other airport projects around the world and how long it took for them to be built and how late they were. Not to mention doing it in a pandemic. And before some smart comment how that is a blessing, it really isn't. Construction workers get sick too and there have been major supply issues during covid. Just an example, moving walkways in the extension were manufctured in Spain and there was a big worry they would not arrive in time becaise last year at around the time they were supposed to arrive there was a massive Covid surge in Spain and it was expected that factories would be closed again. Thankfully they didn't but had it happened entire project would be delayed because they would be unable to close the building i.e finish the facade before these things arrived and were installed because there is no other way to put them in an enclosed building. This is just one example, and there are many such. So deadlines moving a few weeks or months is not the end of the universe in a sotuation where the world is constantly shutting down and opening up every few months. For now project is on schedule.

Any plans for rail or metro connection to the airport soon?
ReplyDeleteThe best it would be to move existing railroad, build nice traomstain and enable all rail link not only for Belgrade but for NS, SU, SM, ŠA, LO, RU + BH and HR.

DeleteThe exhisting railway goes from Belgrade via New Belgrade - Zemun (Novi Grad) - Zemun Polje - Batajnica. There is a functioning railway from Batajnica via Dobanovci and Surčin to Ostružnica (railway bridge since decades).

You would think so, but the planned metro line doesn't even connect to the mail railway station or the bus station, which were once next to each other (downtown) whereas now they are on different ends of town with a river in between, so good luck getting a line to the airport like ever. Catching a cab is always your best bet.
DeleteRail connection to Beograd would make a lot of sense. Transfer by bus is very time consuming.

DeleteIt looks nice but I don't like colors. Black front, why? Black&yellow signage - not distinctive, expected, boring. Color scheme used by many others, BCN being most recognizable, not connected to Belgrade, Serbia, region, history, legacy in any way. I mean, our airport's named after Tesla, bring something more disruptive guys.
ReplyDeleteThe airport signage follows the color scheme of most Vinci airports. I also don't understand how can you connect the airports building colors, color schemes to the region, history or legacy and what do you mean by more disruptive?
DeleteI think the black, white, and gray paneling is quite appropriate given the airport's name. It has a very "Tesla" inspired aesthetic about it... only, I'm referring to the car company, not the man himself. ;)

You remember when letter A, created as confluence of Sava and Danube, was used as airport logo? That's one way you use something distinctive to create image and develop the story around brand. When it comes to colors, Belgrade has one in its name and it's not black or yellow. Airports are brands and brands use different tools to position in consumers' minds. Colors are great tools to create distinctive position. So far, when you look into this design it doesn't say Belgrade. Maybe they'll work more on it so in the future when we see Raiffeisen visual we'll first think of BEG.
