NEWS FLASH

The Former CEO of the defunct Slovenian national carrier, Adria Airways, is set to become the country’s new Finance Minister. The fifty-year-old Klemen Boštjančič led Adria in 2011 and 2012. Mr Boštjančić implemented wide-scale cost cutting measures at the airline, which stabilised the carrier’s finances. However, it came at a cost, with the company diminishing its route network, resulting in a major plunge in passenger numbers. In 2012 the carrier handled under a million travellers for the first time in seven years. The former CEO was praised for securing bank loans and government handouts for Adria. Mr Boštjančić pushed for the airline’s privatisation and said that national carriers from the former Yugoslavia should merge if the Slovenian airline failed to find a buyer. Adria was eventually privatised in 2016, which ultimately sealed its fate.

      Adria was the best thing that ever happened to Slovenian aviation.

      Adria is only a by-product of Yugoslavia. If not for the latter, a country of 2 million would never have a 'strong' airline.

    Lol, this new slo government is a total joke. Some people say "everything is better than Jansa" but I now think "even Jansa is better than this whole leftist scene in SLO"...

      Now you think that? Maybe you should start using that thing on top of your neck, instead of letting 24ur and rtv doing the thinking for you. I'm appalled by the stupidity and naivety of my fellow countrymen.

    That's the anglosaxion neoliberal agenda which has taken over more and more in Europe. Privatize more and more of former government services and public assets, such as education, health by closing down hospitals or privatize airports, airlines. And many airlines which are privatized have no chance to resist in a market environment of the large airline groups, where the global elite is holding its shares. Slovenia was best example for it and with Golob in the nations lead now, this will continue to the advantage of the elites and the disadvantage of the regular citizens. Thats why I claim we need in Europe less USA but more leadership again to the benefit of the majority!

      I don't agree. Privatisation must definitely take place in healthcare. People don't realise the (poor) quality of service they're receiving now. Hopefully (wouldn't bet any money on it), physicians will be forced to change their view of themselves. Patients are their customers and should be treated that way (instead of patients being grateful to the all mighty doctors for taking their precious time to deal with those pesky patients).

      Have you ever been to the USA? Or even watched US movie? Do you know how public schools and public health look like? The level, quality of services? And do you know how many people can afford private education and fully private health care? If that's your model and ideal, than something must be deeply wrong with you!!!!

      @pozdrav:
      yep, there sure is something wrong with me. I just lost a person very dear to my heart after spending 150k EUR for surgeries that our (Slovenian) physicians were adamant were impossible to perform (needles to say, they were wrong - but that is just a cherry on top of all the other poor decisions they made during the 7 year illness that resulted in death).

      Their wage is the same, regardless of the effort they put in (I have my doubts it would make any difference due to their lack of experience and knowledge - if you think there was nepotism in Adria, have a look at Slovenian healthcare). Unlike you, pozdrav iz Rijeke (I'm guessing you only see your doctor for a yearly checkup), I was dealing with physicians from all over the Europe and USA, and must say that the crap we have in Slovenia is much worse than you or your kind have ever imagined.

      So, Rijeka, unless you have a life threatening illness (for which someone will actually have to put an effort into - and I do hope things are different in Croatia), I suggest you stick to the TV and Scrubs/Grey's Anatomy or whatever show you fancy. But don't to be a smartas* about things you clearly know nothing of or have no experience with. Especially, Slovenian healthcare system.
