Turkish Airlines will operate triple daily flights between Istanbul and Belgrade this winter season. The airline introduced the third daily service at the start of the 2022 summer season, each morning, afternoon, and evening, which has now been extended into winter. Demand for travel between Istanbul and Belgrade has reached record levels this year, with the Turkish carrier sold out on numerous Belgrade flights weeks in advance. The airline has also concluded a codeshare agreement with Air Serbia on the route. Although it planned to deploy wide-body aircraft on select services during the week, it has faced a lack of available wide-body capacity this summer.
That is bad news for ASL.

DeleteIt is actually a very good development for TK and JU. Both airline are consistently sold out and we are going to see JU adding more frequency as they get adfitional aircrafts.
DeleteNow they have 10 a week. However, only 7 were entered into the system over the winter.
DeleteFinal winter timetable is not in the system yet, they will have more flights.

DeleteThey already send the A333 to OTP and B789 to ATH. Hopefully they find some spare wide-body capacity for BEG flights.

Better for Air Serbia to add night flights. At least like now, 3 pw.
DeleteYes those are great for transfers, they need a much more competitive schedule for O&D traffic. They need to grow a pair and introduce morning and evening flights out of BEG. Until they do that most O&D will stick to TK.
DeleteIs it even possible to add flights in the morning and in the evening? What then would Turkish ask for, bearing in mind a strict bilateral agreement?
DeleteA lot of demand on the BEG-IST sector has caused fares to spiral up, now it's next to impossible to find a return fare for less than EUR 200, at least with TK. Not to mention how expensive they have become on some other popular routes from IST

DeleteThey are not only collected by direct flights from Russia, but also from the Caucasus countries.
At some point we won't be able to use the Russians as an excuse for everything. BEG-IST was always a solid performer, even before covid and the war in Ukraine.
DeleteRight now there is a boom in tourism between the two countries and demand is much greater than the supply. Just look at the number of Turkish arrivals to Serbia this year, numbers are booming. Unfortunately seems like JU and TK are happy to limit the supply so that people are forced to pay over 300 Euros for this one hour flight.

DeleteThat was the answer and not specifically for BEG-IST, although there are plenty of them on that route as well.
Well, transfer flights are going to get more expensive as the flight to/from BEG get more and more full.

DeleteTourists from Turkey, mostly families, are all over Belgrade. No suprise that BEG-IST is booming.
DeleteGone are the times of corona when you could buy cheap tickets two weeks before departure. This is slowly returning to normal. Tickets for November are more than affordable.
DeleteToday I booked a flight with JU for BEG-IST, three weeks in advance and paid 360 Euros. I believe that is not cheap for an hour and ten minutes flight. It's obviously a sign that more capacity needs to be put out there on this segment. I believe JU could easily run 17 to 18 weekly flights on this route.
DeleteTK for the same dates was around 450 Euros. Pegasus was wild, flight back was over 900 euros!
I was flying next to a Serbian guy from Nis on our way to Málaga and he told me that Serbians can now enter Turkey only with an ID card because they did it to Bulgarians 2 months ago but I don't see this info online.

Its true. Since couple of months ago we travel only with personal ID and Turks also.
DeleteThe bilateral agreement is signed it just has to be ratified by the Parliaments of both countries before entering into force.
DeleteThat agreement will further stimulate the growth. Maybe IST overtakes even TIV in the number of flights
