Finnish national carrier Finnair will resume seasonal flights between Helsinki and Ljubljana this coming summer after a three-year hiatus. Services will commence on April 1 and initially run three times per week with the Airbus A319 aircraft, each Monday, Thursday and Saturday, before a fourth weekly rotation is added on Tuesdays from April 25. Flights will be maintained until the end of the summer season in late October. "Travel has recovered at a good pace and we are increasing flights to European routes to meet the increased demand in Asia”, Finnair’s Chief Commercial Office, Ole Orver, said. Finnair previously handled a notable number of transfer passengers from Asia on its Ljubljana service, with the carrier holding an 8% share of all travellers between the continent and the Slovenian capital in the pre-pandemic 2019. That year, it handled a total of 32.218 passengers on the route. Finnair will also resume seasonal flights between Helsinki and Zagreb. ReplyDeleteOkay, Ljubljana is finally getting some decent traction. And just yesterday, I was reading about Camex Adria being established at LJU, but I don't really know if it's for pax or cargo, as it's part of Camex, which specializes in cargo... We'll see but it's looking better for LJU

Doesn't mean anything, they restored flights last year and suspended them in less than a month.
Deletethis is a terrible timetable for connection from scandinavia into LJU tho, something Finnair could also capture. but interconti pax is higher yield and you don't want to make them wait especially if those alone could fill the plane quite nicely anyway. so it makes sense i suppose.
ReplyDeleteperfectly good the other way around tho, sadly if you can't get a flight from scandinavia to LJU, nobody will really use the airline to go to LJU or anyone in Slovenia to go to scandinavia with AY. kind of a missed opportunity if you ask me, but that's just my opinion.
This is scheduled for mainly Japan connections, HND, NRT, KIX.
DeleteI'm just saying that it's fine if it is, if they can fill the plane nicely with far east pax. If they wouldn't and if planes will fly not full, then it's a bit of a missed opportunity. But only then.

Only issue is that they can't fly over Russia so DXB, IST, MUC...are going to be far more competitive.

DeleteBefore Russia opened its airspace, during Soviet Union, plenty of north-and westeuropean airlines used to operate Japan flights via Anchorage. Later, ANC was skipped/omitted, and the routes were flown nonstop, on so called Polar route. It is true that overflying Russia is a bit shorter and less expensive, but still shorter and much more profitable than taking southern routes. In addition to that, the war will not last forever. Not a single one ever did. So, no, HEL as a hub for Asia is not dead, just temporary halted. Btw I am happy to hear finally good news from LJU
Flights to Japan from Europe are ridiculously expensive now. From ZAG the average cheapest flights are 900-1000€. I used to pay 450-600€. AY currently offers the cheapest LJU - TYO is from 880€, ZAG - TYO 990€ without checked luggage, but most dates are over 1000€.
DeletePrices are increased generally. For the Far East, it's good price you talk about. Most of the airlines charge North America flights that amount at the moment.

DeleteWhen will these tickets go on sale? I’m trying to fly from Helsinki to Ljubljana for Easter and the flight and bus prices are have terrible to get there via Ljubljana airport, Vienna, Zagreb, Venice, Budapest or Munich. I’ve been trying to book this for weeks now and am happy to hear the news but don’t see these direct flights on sale yet…
