NEWS FLASH

The Croatian National Tourist Board is in talks with airlines to provide better connectivity between the United States and Croatia. The Board has met with Turkish Airlines USA, headed by General Manager Emre Ismailoglu, during which possibilities to further increase the flow of US tourists to Croatian destinations was discussed. Furthermore, talks with Turkish were held over joint campaigns and events, and the introduction of new flights to Croatia with an emphasis on the pre- and post-peak summer travel season. "We are extremely pleased with the excellent response from Croatian as well as American tourist entities, which in turn confirm the growth of our country's popularity among American travel enthusiasts. We successfully maintained, and, I would say, further strengthened our position on this market. I believe in the continuation of the positive and upward trend, and since it is a distant market, we will focus most of our attention and activities on strategic cooperation with airlines and tour operators in order to make our country as accessible as possible to Americans", the Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board in New York, Leila Krešić Jurić, said. United is the only nonstop operator between the United States and Croatia, maintaining seasonal summer flights between Newark and Dubrovnik, which will be restored on May 26 with its Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.

They’ve been focusing on US flights for the past 10 years.

And it 10 years time when they announce the same thing, under the wild assumption that they will still be around, you will be squawking the same mentally-mundane phrase, as you always do.

In 10 years we'll have US flights to ZAG and SPU apart from DBV which has already been served by 3 different American airlines. You're free to continue being miserable

US flights for Croatia is a top priority. US tourists spend a lot of money and could push Croatian tourism to a new level.

Instead converting 320 neo order to 321xlr, instead of leasing 330 years ago, within flag carrier for top unserved and highest yield North America routes, they are getting 220 (btw Senegal airlines is considering swaping its 220 fleet to Embraer) to feed Lufthansa, and talking to Turkish to fly their pax with 2 hours backwarding via Istanbul. On the same day when Air Serbia, with no US tourists, about the same diaspora, worse geographical position, visa regime and no EU open skies arrangement with EU gets its JFK service profitable and commencing ORD. Bravo Hrvatska! Bravo Kradeze! Bravo Uhljebi! Bravo OU!

I even agree with you on some points. A lot of thinks doesn't make sense when it comes to Croatian tourism air connectivity. It's a shame that ZAG does not have year round ZAG-JFK line and maybe Split-America in summer season...

Demand is probably small so that the reason why there is no more flights except Dubrovnik. Other reason is low number of personal, lot of companies are canceling flights for bigger markets so definitely Croatia is not on their radar.
Regarding Croatia tourist board their main purpose is doing things like this, pretending like they are doing something

Zagreb Airport is too expensive for Airlines to fly to unless you're Ryanair and receive subsidies.

Nothing will change in Croatia as long as the corrupt politicians in power are replaced by other corrupt politicians not in power. It's a vicious cycle. And the EU does nothing about it. So much for EU morality.

The US airlines are running short on crews to keep their current schedules let alone start new destinations. Maybe in a few years when they get their own house in order will they start expanding again.

Any US-HR route can be profitable from June till September, in the best scenario May-October, on the contrary October to May routes MUST involve subsidies or exercising the fifth freedom routing and boosting cabin load with another stopover like Budapest, Bratislava, north Italian cities etc.
