NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia and Croatia Airlines have been named among Eastern Europe's best carriers at the annual World Airline Awards, hosted by Skytrax. For the seventh time, the two largest carriers from the former Yugoslavia have been featured among the best in the category, while Air Serbia has also been named among Europe’s top regional airlines and among the world's best regional carriers.

Air Serbia was voted Eastern Europe’s fourth best, behind airBaltic, LOT Polish Airlines and Wizz Air, while Croatia Airlines placed sixth, proceeding CSA Czech Airlines. Air Serbia was also named the third best regional airline in Europe, behind Aegean Airlines and Air Dolomiti. Furthermore, it came eighteenth in the category of best regional carriers in the world, just behind Porter Airlines and ahead of American Eagle.

The World Airline Awards, described as "the Oscars of the aviation industry", are the most coveted quality accolades for the world airline industry and a global benchmark of airline excellence handed out based on passenger experience. The 2023 awards, held at the Paris Air Show, are based on a customer survey period from September 2022 to May 2023. A total of 13.42 million eligible customer surveys were completed, across a range of topics, resulting in the awards for airline of the year, together with regional and best airline awards. All entries are screened to identify each IP / user information, with duplicate or ineligible entries deleted. The awards are said to be 100% independent with no payment by any airline or other outside organisation for any aspect of the customer survey or awards presentation event. Over 100 different nationalities participated in the customer satisfaction survey. The surveys measure standards across 49 key performance indicators of airline front-line product and service.

Singapore Airlines was named the world’s best carrier, ahead of Qatar Airways and ANA, while Turkish Airlines came out on top in Europe. Kuwait Airways was recognised as being the world’s most improved carrier.

So glad to see Croatia airlines is recognized as reliable carrier with great punctuality even in busy summer months. I fly with them at least 24 times per year and in last 8 years flight was delayed once in August. Keep doing good business and congratulations to Air Serbia as well!

It doesn't say OU was recognized as a reliable carrier. There are no separate categories for punctuality, just the overall score.

Not trying to defend Pozdrav, but it doesn’t disprove anything he writes here, OU is among the best simply because the competition in the region is almost nonexistent (Serbia and Croatia are the only ex-YU countries that have national airlines, and JU happens to be vastly superior to OU right now, in spite the recent hiccups with the flights and planes)

How is JU vastly superior to OU though in terms of product? Buy on board, small snack & water for free, fake Euro-business class, they share all of these features. The only differences I see are JU having a marginally better lounge at its hub and OU being a part of Star Alliance, thus providing better mileage earning opportunities.

This does not disapprove any of my points, actually it confirms my points with OU being placed in Eastern Europe, and with regional carriers, with (wasted) potentials for much more. In addition to that, crime, corruption, nepotism, political influence, inertness and irelevance were not rated. If yes, I am positive OU would be number one, better than anyone else, not only out of regional companies in eastern Europe but Worldwide.

@Vlad maybe we can start with the network - OU is mediocre compared to JU, can’t win against FR on its home turf, let alone some established legacy carrier, but you know this already. I like the optimism around 220s, but let’s wait and see how that plays out, right now it’s all wishful thinking, more or less

I do like Dreamliner but it's too expensive. 330 is money maker. Next, one can get two classic Embraers for the price of one new 220. Next, existing order for 320 neo to be converted to A321XLR. Not phasing out 330 even after A321XLR delivered. Keeping in fleet Q400 for PSO between and out of secondary airport. Keeping 319/320 fleet for summer coast charter operations. Winter ACMI lease out to Southern Hemisphere. Focus on North America with 2-3 daily connections. Codeshare on American side to get to all most important destinations. 3-4 weekly to BKK for both P2P, and transfers from primarily AUS/NZ, and Far East. Codeshares in BKK for AUS&NZ, Phillipines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong.... Opening India on A321XLR to help reduce seasonality. Embraer fleet to minimum triple regional destinations, two to three per day, 5-6 for SPU and DBV. Introduction of propper waves system which will enable connections. Marketing, marketing, marketing, work, work work....
Instead, it will be single type fleet feeding LH in MUC and FRA and Buzin full of uhljebs doing nothing

I fly more in a year than most people do in a lifetime. I am not belittling anyone's success, I'm just countering the cheerleading around JU's ranking with cold hard facts. They have an extremely average product, and that's fine because it fits with their business model and their main competitors. But flying JU isn't an "excellent" experience by any objective measurement. If you can't take objective criticism of your favourite airline, that's also fine, but I've never commented on this blog in bad faith, and ad hominem attacks are out of place.

The cold hard fact is that JU is the best regional airline, and no one is contesting their product which is average and that’s fine, thanks for getting on the same page with the rest of us.

Air Serbia is objectively not even close to an "excellent" experience one would experience on Qatar and as a result it is not ranked among the top 100. That's a cold hard fact. No one claims Air Serbia is as amazing as Qatar and others in that group.

But when ranked within Eastern Europe's best carrier group, it does outperfrom Croatia Airlines. Which means OU deserves even more criticism.

Vlad is absolutely right. Skytrax ( I call it Shitrax for a very good reason) is a joke. Both Vlad and me, we are trying to be objective, give credits to company which deserves it, and criticize one when deserved as well. Air Serbia became bigger than Croatia Airlines over very short period, and unlike Croatia Airlines, it has fantastic growth and development in both fleet and network. And for that, my hat off and deep bow. But in terms of quality of services, both airlines are similar, Croatia Airlines might be even slightly better. You should know first that Skytrax is a joke, and then, you should comment based on facts, like Vlad, not based on your emotions, likings and preferences. Wizz being placed third says it all, no further discussion needed.

If you carefully read the reviews of JU on TripAdvisor or TrustPilot, there is definitely a room to worry about. This introduction of foreign planes is immediately noted by the passengers. There seems to be an issue with the lost luggage (guessing because they have many delays or lack of staff).

I been more than 47 years working in the airline industry and see many reports about airlines ratings. All companies get ( of course ) benefits to publish it, Skytrax is one. Just see from where is the origin of this company. I agree with Pozdram about the credibility. The airlines should work more to offer a good service to the customers, rather than pay big sums of money to be in the " ratings ".
