Swiss to boost Ljubljana service

Swiss International Air Lines will increase frequencies between Zurich and Ljubljana to twelve weekly rotations this upcoming winter season, which begins on October 29. The carrier will run two daily flights between the two cities Mondays through to Fridays, with one daily service on the weekends. Over the duration of the winter season, which runs until March 30 of next year, 55 flights will be operated by Helvetic Airways on Swiss’ behalf with its mix of Embraer E190 and E195-E2 aircraft, 41 flights will be run by Edelweiss Air with its Airbus A320 jets, while fourteen services are scheduled to be operated by airBaltic and its A220-300 aircraft on Swiss’ behalf. Swiss itself will perform 126 flights. Overall, this winter season, there will be 69.046 seats on the route (both outbound and inbound combined). This is just above the 68.565 seats Adria Airways had on the route during the last full winter season prior to the pandemic (2018/19).

    How's Edelweiss compared to Swiss?


    The capacity and frequencies are greater than in the summer months which is indicative of Swiss underestimating Ljubljana - good for LJU!

      I really like Edelweiss, onboard product is better than Swiss, however I don’t know if it is the same when they are flying exclusively for Swiss. Is in that case the chocolate-water service?

      I flew Edelweiss in Europe once and they were fantastic but it was through an operator, not LX.
      LX is in reality an overpriced trash. Service like LCC.

      I can't understand these comments. Swiss is one of the best airlines I have ever flown with.... My last trip was ZRH-SJJ with the A220-300. The plane is very good and quiet, the service was also at the level. Far from LCC….

      It's always a Swiss flight, just sometimes it is a wetlease operated by Edelweiss, Air Baltic or Helvetic, therefore you always get the exact same Swiss product. E.g. no catering like on a real Edelweiss flight, just Swiss chocolate and water like on Swiss.

    Bravo Hrvatska!!! Bravo Kradeze!!! During the "communist darkness" Swissair used to fly daily to ZAG minimum on MD80, on A310 as well for a period of time, flight which was initially ZRH-ZAG-BEG was later split so there were separate daily flights to both BEG and ZAG. And in addition to that, JAT also operated daily BEG-ZRH and daily ZAG-ZRH on DC-9/B737-300. Plus 3 weekly LJU-ZRH. And look today Swiss operations to BEG and LJU and total absence from ZAG, even with incompetent OU flying half empty Q400 on the route. Bravo once again!!!

      Encouraging them to stay away from ZAG? For what? For winter season ZRH-LJU will see almost 70.000 seats while ZRH-ZAG will see just above 46.000. Considering how "big" and how many tourists ZAG has according to Analitičar there should be way more seats on sale.

      Yes but OU doesn't have the planes to add more and for them it is better for LX to stay away. They don't need competition. If LX doesn't fly to LJU then AF and KL will take more passengers and they don't want that.

      AF and KL are not very strong in ZAG. KL even reduced capacity in summer and AF did not bring back extra frequencies.

      Tell me, then, what is missing from Ljubljana? Most flights are now operated with larger aircraft rather than the CRJ-900 as before. That is, it has almost reached pre-pandemic levels. There are almost no routes fully recovered in terms of schedule and frequency, even if you deduct all transfer passengers. We all know that. Overall still -40% down from 2018, the last normal year.

      Once again, you can fly with A380 but if timetable sucks that does not help you much. When there will be morning outbound and evening inbound flight than we can say that route is restored. Until then, LJU will be still behind every airport in EU.

      There will be no morning outbound and evening inbound flights as they were. So yes, the routs will not be restored the same way they were, but that doesn’t mean that the routs are not restored. The route dynamics will never be as it was with JP, never, since it is not sustainable.

      I Worked in a position on the reservation system between 2020 and 2023. I can tell you that p2p is at 80% as of 2019. Next year is likely to see an almost complete recovery and connection of the country.
