TRIP REPORT

Written by Željko Antić

For my end of year holiday, I decided to visit Ljubljana for the first time and spend my last day of 2023 in the city. From Ljubljana I was continuing to Belgrade on the 2nd of January on flight JU191 scheduled to depart at 9:40 AM. The one-way ticket in light tariff was bought on 6th of December for 80 euros. On the morning of the flight there was a heavy fog in Ljubljana, so I departed towards the airport ready for a possible delay or flight cancellation.

There were quite a few flights departing that morning, so the airport terminal was relatively busy. The information boards indicated that the flight from Belgrade would arrive slightly ahead of scheduled time, which made me confident that my flight would also depart on time.

The check-in was smooth and efficient. The airport is small, which makes it easy to navigate through the terminal. The duty-free shop is large and well stocked with local products. However, I found the offer of food and beverage outlets underwhelming. The toilet in terminal B was not really clean and, on that morning, only one water tap was working. There was no line in front of passport control, so I was fast to clear immigration.

Boarding started on time and the whole process was efficient and well organized. As usual, the flight was operated with one of the ATR72-600, and today this was YU-ALX. For the first time on the ATR, I was assigned an emergency exit seat, which made this flight even more special. Purely, based on my personal estimate, around 70% of seats were occupied on this flight.

Upon short taxi we were airborne and had some stunning views of the Slovenian Alps. The on-board service on this flight consisted of Noblice cookie and a bottle of water. The rest of the flight was uneventful. The cabin crew was absolutely amazing, and I would particularly like to mention Aleksandar who did a brilliant job on this flight.

We arrived in Belgrade ahead of schedule.

New LJU airport looks pretty. Very much reminds me on scandinavian style of airports, I like it.

How was the expirience at the Belgrade airport? Do people still have to climb 30 stairs without elevator or escalator option once the bus reaches the airport building?

Of course, you have to. What I have noticed is that at most airports where you go by bus, the bus leaves you directly at the arrivals, which are usually on the ground floor, and you don't go to the 2nd floor, then you go down to the same place again, while crossing half of the airport.

He asked purely for you to tell him it's the same. He is aware it's the same. He needed to find something to spit at this morning.

But we need to agree that it's a suboptimal experience, especially for the elderly, people with small children and people with heavier luggage. I am personally fine with that, as I cherish every opportunity to walk a bit.

Having dirty toilets that don't work is also a problem for passengers flying from LJU

I fully agree. Just departing to Ljubljana and the toilets at C10x bus gates are dirty, smelly and hand dryer is not working. There's no excuse for it.

I just asked if something improved since I last flew with ATR which was summer. Hope this doesn't stay permanent solution.

An airline usually has a stock of preordered snacks and food. They don't burn them until the supplies are used up.

The only toilet in LJU airport that sometimes is not pristine is the one in the main (EU) gates area and IIRC that one is part of the old building/not renovated. Toilets in the check-in, baggage and non-schengen are always clean. I am flying 2-4 times a month from Ljubljana airport, so just sharing my experience.
