NEWS FLASH

Skopje Airport saw its passenger figures decline slightly in April on the same month last year. It welcomed 238.344 travellers during the month, down 0.4% on 2023. It comes as a result of Wizz Air’s network reductions, caused by the grounding of a significant portion of its Airbus A320neo-family fleet, which led to a 13.6% reduction in its Skopje flight capacity. In total, seat capacity was down 3% at Skopje Airport in April, despite a 22.4% increase in aircraft movements. During the January - April period, Skopje Airport handled 841.617 passengers, up 20.7% following a record first quarter.

I see it also interesting that Pegasus is ahead of Turkish on 2nd place. That is showing me that the demand for more direct flights to Turkey is there, for example Ankara. Turkish is more catering to transfer long haul flights, in my opinion

Pretty decent result considering the cuts - the demand is there.

Will June return similar result in Skopje? Or July? Could Skopje improve on last year's performance if this sort of results continue ?

And where are the fanboys claiming that SKP will overtake ZAG? Internet remembers everything.
In the FlyDubai figures, SKP did not even appear of the list of destinations with demand. Ohrid is also not performing well. Clearly it is either TAV or something wrong with the airport management. Will be interesting to see if Lufthansa survives in SKP....

This was expected since January when our passport problems start and then on all that the Wizz engine problems. I expect even worse results then this. But this also shows and must be sign for TAV to looking for new airlines.
Btw good chance for Ryanair ti enter the market :))

Do not blame TAV. They are OK, there's not much they can do.

In the end its airlines decision to enter some
Market , its not TAV , its country problem. Nobody is looking to come to our market , no potential at all.

It is not only because of Wizz Air problems. Nobody seems to mention colossal Macedonian government fuck up with passports. Significant percentage of Macedonians even to this day do not hold valid passport.

I think the main problem is the price of air tickets, which have increased a lot and reduced the demand because the standard is low.

Prices only increase when the aircraft is filling up. Wizz does not fly empty.

Skopje Airport needs to start attracting long haul customers then we can talk. Once they have flights to New York, Chicago, Miami, Tianjin, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Seoul, Tokyo, New Delhi, Los Angeles, Dallas, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Rio De Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Sao Paolo, etc. then we can talk. Considering Wizz Air flights from Malta leave at 11pm, the day is wasted and reduced flights means people go elsewhere
