The expansion of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is progressing steadily, with much of the current focus on the upcoming 2,800-square-meter central plaza located behind the duty-free area.



In the central plaza, new food and beverage outlets are being introduced. Among the latest additions is a fast-food restaurant, In and Out Burger. Ongoing construction includes Ambar, a Balkan cuisine restaurant with established locations in downtown Belgrade and Washington DC, as well as Burrito Madre, a local Mexican fast-food chain. Additionally, a well-known local bakery chain has opened a new outlet at the C pier of the terminal.







Retail developments are also underway at the A pier of the terminal, between gates A2 and A5. Highlights include a new open-space bar and eatery, Šljiva Bar, located at gate A5, directly across from the premium lounges. Further retail spaces are being added between gates A5 and A7.





On the ground floor, several new outlets are set to open. British retailer WHSmith is making its debut in Serbia with two stores at the airport launching in November and December, followed by a third in January. These stores will offer beverages, sweets, digital accessories, magazines, and books. In Terminal 1, construction continues on a new restaurant by local chain Monument.





The new electronic eGates for passport control have now been installed at both the departure and arrival halls. Their opening is expected shortly. Air Serbia has begun work on new a new premium check-in area, while the airport has confirmed it will reintroduce self-check-in and baggage drop off kiosks next year, which were removed during the construction and overhaul phases.


Meanwhile, work is advancing on a new hangar in the airport's maintenance area. While official confirmation is pending, it is speculated that the facility will house a new aircraft operated by the Government of Serbia.




In late September, Prince Aviation, a private air taxi company, inaugurated its new hangar at the airport. Located adjacent to the Jat Tehnika facility, it spans 3.000 square meters, complemented by an additional 600 square meters of workshops.





Landside, Beam Global, a US-based renewable energy equipment manufacturer, has installed a solar-powered EV charging system at the airport. The new system, featuring ten charging stations, is located in the open-air car park in front of the terminal buildings and offers travellers free EV charging. The service became operational earlier this week.




The airport has initiated efforts to clear areas in preparation for the addition of new green spaces.




Finally, work is being carried on the apron, while final testing is taking place on the overhauled runway 12L-30R. The target date to completely transfer operations to the overhauled runway is the next Aeronautical Information Regulation and Control (AIRAC) date on November 28. This is an internationally agreed day when all changes in flight management systems and aeronautical charts take effect globally. If the airport misses this deadline, the next possible date for the runway opening is December 26, followed by January 23, 2025. Once the overhaled runway opens, the inserted runway, as well as rapid exit taxiways 1-4, will be out of service for a certain period of time for remaining work to be completed. This mainly involves transitioning the inserted runway into a taxiway. The refurbished 3.400-metre 12L-30R runway is currently undergoing lighting system tests and a review of the Terminal Instrument Procedures (TERPS).

    A kada će da se renovira zgrada (fasada) terminala 1 (stara zgrada)? Kada je gotov onaj prostor izmedju, koji je sada pod ciradom?

    Prosli petak sam leteo kroz AB, sve nekako izgleda skrpljeno s brda i s dola, klaustrofobicno i tamno. Generalno gledano sve je to moglo mnogo bolje da izgleda!

      Ako ti tako izgleda onda ti nisi bio na Beogradskom aerodromu. Mora da si pomešao sa Tuzlom ili Tivtom posto ono stacje do sada urađeno izgleda predivno I ja to mogu da potvrdim posto putuješ barem jednom mesecno .

      Da je predivno, bas i nije, posto ocigledno ne putujete dovoljno puno i na razlicitim aerodromima sveta. Sto se tice drugog komentara da je "skrpljen" i to isto govori da doticna osoba nije bas puno putovala. Ima i gorihi ružnijih od Beograda, a opet imajuci u vidu da su renovirali aerodrom od nedavno, slazem se da je moglo to mnogo lepše i prijatnije za oko.

      Skrpljeno itekako jeste. I to nikakve veze nema s tim da li neko putuje ili ne. Krpež se vidi i na AB on dominira, uz potpuni nedostatak koncepta.

      Plafoni su mogli biti barem osvezeni, jako prljavo izgledaju. Uostalom, ne razumem dežurne branioce aerodroma, na bilo koju kritiku ili mišljenje pojedinca su tu da porede sa nekim drugim lošijim aerodromom, a čim se poredjenje svodi na neki bolji onda nas vraćaju na Balkan. Video sam razne aeordrome, medjutim naš izgleda poprilično jeftino.

      Ne razumete jer tako normalni ljudi ne komuniciraju i ne vode debatu - “tatica” i pink su ih naucili da tako pisu. Sto se AB tice, stoji sve sto je covek u ovom postu napisao,, jeste klaustrofobicno, plafoni nisu menjani, na najvecem delu podova je postavljen linoleum sa sarom drveta, eskalatori su jeftini kleeman Grcki, trajace krace od starih snaidera koji i dalje rade bez greske. Organizacija kretanja sa daljih A gejtova je izuzetno losa, pesaci se bukvalno 15 minuta do pasoske. Da je moglo bolje jeste - da ovako Vinci radi i na drugim mestima (fuseri najgori) mozete da se uverite i u Lisabonu koji izgleda mozda i gore i jeftinije od AB-a.

    Couple of topics to be named:
    1. Temporary kiosks for rent a car looks like will be permanently.. people have to go 300m at least from terminal building to rent a car and then go back to parking lot 200m to drive them. Ludicrous.
    2. Globos osiguranje is SNS company, so airport is supporting them..
    Company that I work for, also French, had to switch from Delta Generali to Globos. We got no response why.
    3. Both times I was entering Serbia, so in arrivals, Pirate taxi drivers were there, not one or two but at least 5. 1 guy was speaking on english and was polite, I presume he is mastermind, the others were typical "divlji taksisti". I could bet someone from the airport has a deal with those guys.
    4. When people want to wait for someone on arrivals, for instance if they park in garage, there is no direct path from garage to arrivals. I would love and pay to someone to show me how. People have to go by those automatic ramps or to go all the was around to steps or elevator on far left part, but a again that path is not connected nor has pedestrian patk over car lanes from garage.

      3. I would say that they have deal with Komunalna Policija.
      4. There are P1, P2 and P3 parkings before the garage. Garage is Parking Servis owned and Airport doesn't want to support them, but it's own P1-P3. Garage is mainly for Rent a Car agencies

      I agree. It doesnt matter that much the distance. Its quite common in Airports. But, and its a big but...its often very very hot on Belgrade and waiting to rent a car in the hot sun is horrid. It happens at many airports I know, but its really a sloppy design and that general part of the airport by the garage really still very shabby.

      Nope. I had to go to P1 or P2 to take rent a car vehicles.
      Anyhow, why couldn't they make some stands inside new terminal building?
      It seems they didn't plan everything, I know it is not complete building and it is more difficult to change existing one then to go from scratch, but they had time and money to make BEG great. It will be just ok or at most fine by the end. Also they could have worked with Government to create some tunnel or corridor towards Museum of aviation in future.. That would be killing for transferring passengers.

    Great update, you covered basically all the works that are being carried out.

    BEG is starting to have nice offer for people transiting through it, one that is decent enough for a regional hub.

    It's far from perfect, personally I don't quite like the lack of natural light, but it is still miles ahead where it was couple years ago. Passenger comfort-wise, not aesthetically, which is always subjective.

    WHSmith is surprising addition for me, didn't expect it.

    Belgrade Airport is becoming more and more elegant. The progress in Belgrade is clearly visible and I am pleased about that. Where the green spaces are being created next to the terminal. Is the plan still to park vintage aircraft there?

      Well it is meant to be. They cannot be operated together so why keep the designator. They can’t use the main runway as the taxiway (it is on the wrong side of the airport).

      It will only make for it to remain 12R/30L because that taxiway will be used if 12L/30R can not be used.

      You can tell a pilot, land on the taxiway.

    With the HUGE amount of potential for BEG to expand terminals, cargo, hangars and support facilities it is clear that there simply is not enough room at the present location. Work should begin on building everything from scratch at Batajnica Air Base and the surrounding land with a completion date set for 5-6 years from now.

      No sane person goes around some transfer airport checking for type and cost of materials used. All they care about is to get from point A to point B, get good food or drinks while waiting, get some rest or shopping and do it without much hassle and crowds.

      When I need to go, I could not care less if restroom finishes are cheapest subway tiles or Calacatta marble. Please get back to sanity.

      Well they do care! It is supposed to be a premium airport housing a premium carrier. It is not supposed to be a low cost terminal for Wizz. If they don't care, airports like Doha and Singapore would not be investing in features such as Jewel. The airport becomes the destination itself. You would have expected at least the standard which Aerodrom Beograd put in their own renovation in the 2000s which was far superior.

      Belgrade airport aims to be a regional hub, not an airport like SIN and DOH. Air Serbia does not position or market itself as a premium carrier like a Qatar or Singapore Airlines. Where did you get info BEG&JU are "supposed" to be premium?

      Reno during 2000s didn't have ambition to increase passenger capacity to levels needed for growth, didn't even try to split departing and arriving passenger levels, left A concourse and distant A gates in disgusting state. Don't you talk about 2000s renovations and premium in the same sentence.

      Well if it is not premium as you claim, why are they building a premium check in area? Your colleagues say that it is to position JU as a premium carrier. So what gives? It is either premium or not. Which is it? The fact that passengers were not split is irrelevant. There are so many airports around the world that do not split passengers into arriving and departing and they operate just fine. Look at Singapore for example. I liked BEG before. Much more efficient than this current monstrosity. Have they fixed the water leaks?

    The interior looks quite mediocre. Selection of colors and materials feels random, mid-90s and that old low ceiling? I guess allegedly.... eclectic. For the first impression, there are no second chances. The capital airport, supposedly a hub should be more emblematic. This one is just meh..
