NEWS FLASH

Wizz Air is considering launching a new route between Budapest and Ohrid, Macedonia’s Minister for Transport, Aleksandar Nikoloski, has announced. The service is expected to commence during the 2026 summer season. Meanwhile, the airline has yet to schedule flights between Ohrid and Basel, despite being selected to receive subsidies for the route. Earlier this year, Wizz Air discontinued its Budapest – Skopje service after eight years of operations.

17:52 yes as well as you , thats sound like someone eating bullsh*it on every article for someone who is minister for almost a year , and expect to do more then someone 7 years did not move with a finger. Btw in the end of the day it is airline decision will they launch it or not , definitly the minister is not making the final decision. But for you important is to speard negativity on the articles for Macedonia and just blame someone , we used on that , thats why nobody giwes attention to ur stupid nonsense comments ;)

It seems that BUD does not make sense from Macedonia, not with this WIZZ air equipment.

Malev used to fly CJR200 two decades ago, and also 737. Those planes are well smaller than the A320/321.

So this connection will only last as long as it is heavily subsidized.

It seems that SKP BUD can function with ATR72 or Embraer 170. More than that is too ambitious.

      "Heavily subsidized", lol.

It never made sense in the first place, P2P traffic was barely there and the "heavy subsidies" would cover 5% of the flight costs at max. They probably lost millions on it.

Even subsided the route didnt work out , thats why they cutted. Wizz didnt poses any Atr72 if they yes could maybe work but in this case the route is not reliabale for them..

Average load factor on the route was not below 80%. The demand is there but because the tickets were cheap. Why whould Wizz use their plane twice a week on that route when they can deploy it on Dortmund and sell tickets for 100-150 euros?

16:02 make sense , but did you know that the route was subsided by hungarian goverment ...I think that was the only one , and probably they dont see profit anymore ans they cut it.

SKP-BUD was the only route subsided from Hungarian government , because of the low demand they decide to cut...plus SKP and OHD both have Vienna who is just 2 hours away from Budapest , and SKP-BTS is 1.5 hour away from Budapest too.It is impossible having 3 airports service to such a short distance... thats why they are giving a try to OHD. And should work especially in summer. OHD is growing slowly and any chance is welcomed.

Ohrid also has flights to Vienna according to your logic. If there was no demand for the route they wouldnt have waited 8 years to cut it.

Budapest from Ohrid Airport will likely not operate for more than one season if launched as a new route.
Vienna has four weekly flights in summer operated with an A321.
Ohrid needs a destination that will be used by the diaspora throughout the whole year, as well as some tourists in the summer for tourism purposes.

The destinations with the highest demand from Ohrid are: Basel, Malmö, Treviso, Baden-Baden, Eindhoven, Friedrichshafen, Gothenburg.

The tender in Macedonia offering €12 per passenger for Ohrid and €9 for Skopje has been open for almost a year, and the results are very low. It seems that no airline is willing to use its capacity in Macedonia — the market is too small for them when they have the option to choose other European cities instead.

If they launch the route it would be seasonal for sure not a year round. I understand what you are saying , but cannot only getting gasto routes. Both airports need a mix of gasto and touristic cities ad well as Europe hub connections. The tender launched in Octomber giwes a results why saying that. SKP gets so far 6 launched routes from 9 selected , the other 3 Dubai,Stutrgart abd Geneva will be launched after summer season. It always need a time , and tender is open just yet and there are talks , it just need a time for any airline to bring decussion

Ohrid has a potentinal and deserves more and any route is more then welcomed. After the Covid hit it is still very down then what it used to be.So need alot of work to grow again. I hope it will get more routes in future. As well renovating is on going should that also attract more airlines to giwe a try.

Polski turisti u Ohrid su mali broj za razliku od Holandjana i Turci ili Englezi. Ova ruta iz Budimpesta bi radila sasvim dobro za letne sezone.
