NEWS FLASH

Croatia Airlines inaugurated its first of five new seasonal routes this summer by introducing flights between Zagreb and Hamburg. Services will be maintained three times per week, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with a mix of Airbus A220-300 and Airbus A319 aircraft. The service will conclude for the year on October 24. Up until now, Hamburg has been within the top ten busiest unserved routes from Zagreb Airport. Croatia Airlines last served Hamburg in 2012, though the route was maintained from Split. Zagreb was later connected to the German city by Eurowings in 2019.

Commenting on the new service, Croatia Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, Slaven Žabo, said, “With our new seasonal connection between Hamburg and Zagreb, we are expanding the travel options for our passengers and creating an even better connection between Germany and Croatia. The new route from Hamburg complements our existing flights from Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, and Düsseldorf to various Croatian destinations. The flights on the new route will be operated by Croatia Airlines' modern Airbus A220 aircraft, which will replace our existing fleet and offer an excellent flight experience for both our guests and crew". Dirk Behrens, Head of Aviation at Hamburg Airport, added, “We are delighted to officially welcome Croatia Airlines as our new partner at Hamburg Airport today. The new connection offers our travellers an attractive, direct connection to an exciting destination in Southeast Europe and expands our flight offerings from Hamburg to the popular holiday destination of Croatia”.

There were 115 passengers onboard the first service from Hamburg to Zagreb.

    One of the only new routes that makes sense with A220

      Hamburg, Stockholm, Brussels and Barcelona are the only ones that maybe make sense. Everything else needs an A320 or an Embraer.

      Paris and Amsterdam make perfect sense, from my experience usually have a few seats left making them perfect

      Paris and Amsterdam have multiple codeshare partners from both Star Alliance and SkyTeam airlines and need to be A320s because there are endless transfer passengers and lots of P2P too.

      One of the only. The only is by definition one. One of is by definition multiple. So, which one is it?

      Absolute nonsense. Does Zagreb-Sarajevo need an A220? Does Zadar-Pula need an A220? Osijek-Dubrovnik? Zagreb-Vienna?

      @anon 15:59 +100!

      Even OS has seen that a turboprop is needed. ATR72-600 or Dash 8 Q400 would be perfect for Sarajevo.

      Had the opportunity to fly via OU344 to Sarajevo. The only bad thing was, that the windows were dirty. :D

      Anon 19:08 surprising that Zagreb service had more pax as it would make more sense for Croats in Hamburg to use the route now in early summet

      Why? You can fly HAM via FRA/MUC/VIE/ZRH to ZAG and back on the direct flight. You must not wait for a direct flight to combine it with a direct flight, so it makes sense that the ZAG-HAM flight had 130 pax.

    Croatia Airlines management is an absolute disaster. How is it possible that Hamburg is scheduled to depart at 08:00, just 10 minutes earlier than what was needed to meet the minimum connecting time for passengers travelling from Zadar and Pula? That's Zadar-Hamburg and Pula-Hamburg passengers that will now not fly Croatia Airlines.
