NEWS FLASH

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport welcomed its millionth traveller of the year yesterday, August 21, on a KLM flight to Amsterdam. In 2024, the figure was achieved in early September. To mark the occasion, all passengers on the flight were treated to a sweet surprise, while the millionth traveller received two complimentary KLM tickets to Amsterdam, along with a photo opportunity with the cabin crew before departure. Ljubljana Airport anticipates handling over 1.5 million passengers this year.

Commenting on the one million passenger milestone, Janez Krašnja, Head of Airline Management at operator Fraport Slovenija, said, “We are happy and proud to have welcomed our millionth passenger earlier than last year, which reflects Ljubljana Airport’s continued growth and the increasing trust of passengers in our services. With a record number of scheduled airlines this summer season, a wide selection of scheduled and charter destinations, and upcoming nonstop flights to Las Palmas, Manchester and Barcelona, we expect to successfully serve more than 1.5 million passengers by the end of the year". Razvan Radut, Country Sales Manager at Air France-KLM, added, "We are delighted to welcome Ljubljana Airport’s millionth passenger this year on KLM. Since launching our Amsterdam - Ljubljana route in March, we've expanded travel options and flexibility for our customers. With Air France-KLM’s network of 300 destinations, travellers enjoy seamless global connections. We’re pleased to announce this route will continue throughout the winter season, ensuring year-round service".

In addition to Amsterdam, the busiest destinations in Ljubljana Airport’s network by mid-August 2025 were Istanbul, London, Frankfurt and Zurich. Among charter flights, the most popular were Hurghada, Antalya, Tunisia, Rhodes and Sharm el-Sheikh.

They need to turn those charter routes into scheduled ones...Vueling with BCN route is a clear example of how good the flights are selling

Or perhaps they are following up on their "charter hub" plans :)

Although I would prefer to see Slovenian travel agencies working in cooperation with LCCs and coordinating scheduled flights for tourist packages, this will not work in Slovenia. Slovenian holiday culture is associated with charter flights, people simply expect such a package of services, where the agency brand and the provision of charter services are important, including support from travel agency staff from entering the terminal to the end of the purchased tourist product. Fraport has absolutely no role in this.

1 Mio after 8 months for a mid European capital city is not really an achievement. But at least they got now regular BCN and KL was also a good gain
