Low cost carrier Ryanair is increasing frequencies on its Vienna – Niš service this upcoming winter season, which begins on October 28 and runs until March 26. The airline will maintain five weekly flights throughout the winter, up from two weekly in November and December last year and three weekly between January and March of this year. The airline will maintain the schedule on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, with two flights on Fridays. Ryanair will operate the same number of flights on the route as during the 2025 summer season. This development follows Wizz Air’s recent announcement of a new Bratislava - Niš service. Vienna and Bratislava are just 80 kilometres apart.
The double flight on Fridays is a very interesting move by Ryanair.
ReplyDeleteThe morning flight could be convenient for gastos who want to go to Nish while skipping work that day. The evening flight is convenient for those who will not take a day off.
Seems like VIE with its catchment area is becoming a very solid performer for INI. Let's hope we get BER, GRO or BVA in the future.
It really isn't very complicated, they just launch flights when they have a free aircraft.
DeleteIn Zagreb in April they operated double daily flights to Rome on Sundays and they were just two hours apart.
I don't think it's really that simple since both Friday (INI) and Sunday (ZAG) are the busiest days in the week when it comes to air travel. I am sure FR had a more lucrative destination than INI on a Friday afternoon.
DeleteMy guess is that here in INI they wanted to strike at W6 while in ZAG they wanted to push OU out. The joke's on them since OU doesn't care about profits so it made no difference to them!
When will some LCC take courage to fly BEG - VIE/BTS/BRQ?

DeleteThat said, given the number of flights on BEG-VIE, I don't think BTS will be a viable alternative.
LJU is just too unfriendly for LCC so don't expect flights.
Delete@Nemjee Wizz air`s network officer and her associate told me that BEG-VIE is to short of a flight for them. I don`t understand that logic at all. And if BTS was also not "too close", unlike you, I think would be a superbly viable option. And BTS - Kovin as well, if they opened that runway, for the proximity of Braničevo county :).

DeleteI think that argument about BEG-VIE is just a way for them to justify not wanting to get into a fight with both JU and OS.
Actually in a more developed nation Bor airport would be active. It would connect to China flights nicely.
DeleteAgreed. And it's not only business in Bor itself. Tourism on Danube, Djerdap national park, huuuge diaspora, proximity to Romania, proximity to Zaječar, county center, potentials are there even today, in not so developed nation. Why they are not used, it's the other story

DeleteFor sure it won't be regional hub but could easily have some 4-5 flights per day on turboprops and regional jets with legacy, and 1-2 flights per day on 150-200 seater jets with LCC

DeleteI think it’s about time they expand from Niš. It’s been years since any new routes were introduced, and people are desperate for flights to destinations like Milan, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, Düsseldorf, Oslo..

DeleteSome leisure too at least seasonally but I'm positive some may work all year. They just announced a year-round Larnaka service from Tuzla.
DeleteI think they should try Girona out. It's an LCC airport in a mass tourism hotspot. There is surely demand for 2 flights a week in summer.

ReplyDeleteRyan just doesn't want to give them a break anywhere. But it is weird of all the destinations Wizz could choose they opted to attack Ryanair's Vienna. Pick your battles better Mr. Varadi.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that Varadi is counting on BTS being cheaper. It could also mean that Wizz Air is not happy with the yields out of VIE. It's definitely a cheap airport to fly from, at least not as cheap as BTS and other similar airports.
DeleteSure but I'm arguing the fight they pick not the way they fight it. They have more pressing issues to solve and spending resources on this doesn't look smart to me. But for quite some time now I don't understand their strategy...

ReplyDeleteOnly Ryan does things like this, channeling the demand for affordable leisure into cheap flights to nice destinations. With Wizz you can get leisure only if there's a diaspora. In Cyprus there may be some...
