NEWS FLASH
Lufthansa has completed the retrofit of the first of 38 Airbus A320 aircraft, which will be deployed on intra-European services. Last year, the carrier utilised the A320 on 49% of all its operations to markets in the former Yugoslavia.
The retrofitted aircraft feature new ergonomically designed seats from manufacturer Geven, as well as significantly larger overhead bins, USB ports at every seat, as well as tablet and smartphone holders. The new seats include horizontally adjustable headrests and, in business class, a backrest that reclines further. The new cabin is equipped with overhead bins that are 40% larger and offer space for more carry-on suitcases or bags. Baggage can now be stowed vertically. Every seat receives its own USB-A and USB-C port, allowing mobile devices to be charged. In addition, all seats are equipped with a holder for tablets and smartphones.
The first retrofitted A320, registered D-AIZY, is now back in scheduled service. Each aircraft conversion takes about thirty days and involves installing roughly 1.000 components sourced from about 100 suppliers.

The seats dont look that bad but judging by the photos, the legroom looks pretty tight
ReplyDeleteGuys, I was looking at some tickets to PEK and when I checked LH it seems that they no longer offer the cheapest fare with only hand luggage. Did they change something? I know that before you had to pay extra for hand luggage with the lowest fare?
ReplyDeleteLufthansa seems to be moving away from the LCC model.
Sometimes they remove one fare class depending on flight. Austrian and Eurowings does the same sometimes
DeleteMaybe because cheaper fares are not rentable to them, since it takes them one hour longer than before the closure of the Russian Airspace.
DeleteBecause of this they scrapped FRA-PEK in 2024 (and are def. not returning in summer 2026) and now they only offer MUC-PEK 7x and guess have to make sure they earn as much as they can on these flights.
The USB ports are huge, they were an obvious lacking on their older jets.
ReplyDeleteSmart decision by LH. You do not need to get brand new NEOs to improve the cabin experience.
ReplyDeleteAnd they are also installing Starlink internet access on all the LHG aircraft!
I wish JU would do the same.

DeleteAs long as they still use the same seats in business as in economy and then just leave the middle seat free, I (and many more who can choose and can afford whom to fly with) am not going to choose LH over TK just because "the seat reclines a little bit more".
ReplyDeleteSo if you are flying from FRA to MAD you will go via IST?
Delete@Anon 21:08 +100 perfect reply
DeleteTurkish is great, when you fly outside central and western Europe. For western European routes starting from Western Europe, it is unfortunately inconvinient. :(
If I would fly from FRA to MAD i would not use business class and pay 3x the price, but would fly economy, as they offer the same seats, and this extra recline is not worth it. - which was my point all along
DeleteMost people who use business class on intra European routes are one "corporate accounts", all big airlines provide special deals for corporation.
DeleteUsing the business class is not about the seat but all the flexibility it provides as guaranteed seats even at short notice, free change of flights, refunds, access to lounges, FF programs, etc....
Geven seats are one of the best (also expensive) in the industry, USB (A and C) is a good move (not for the cabin maintenance) and the pod/phone placeholders are very smart move. (Croatia has Geven seats on 220’s which are far better then Baltic’s and Swiss)
ReplyDeleteConsidering LH already forbid charging devices from power banks, the move with introducing USB ports is coming too late as it won't happen overnight.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky to fly on D-AIZY on 19 February :) I noticed unusual seats and big overhead bins, didn't know they started refreshing of A320s cabins. It is an improvement from Recaro! The crew didn't do any marketing about new cabin.
