Discussions over Wizz Air’s future operations at its Belgrade base are continuing as uncertainty persists over the impact of the country’s amended aviation regulations. The carrier declined to disclose further details or indicate whether progress had been made, noting that there are ongoing talks with relevant authorities and that additional information will be provided once developments can be made public. Wizz Air previously said it would have to decide on the future of its Belgrade base by late September, but would seek to retain as many services as possible if it relocates its based aircraft elsewhere.

DeleteWhich routes are at risk to be discontinued by this?
ReplyDeleteI assume Barcelona, Berlin, Hamburg, Gothenburg, Malmo, Nice, Alicante. They do not base any aircraft in these airports.
There are alternative plans how most of these will be served. Wait a bit. The base might not close after all.

DeleteI could see them launching a number of Polish destinations plus Turin.
DeleteTurin would be a nice addition. Not sure about Polish routes, potentially Gdansk because Polish adore making road trips around the Balkans and it offers significant potential for Serbian tourists too. It would be a fun route indeed.
DeleteGuys even if they close their base in BEG they will operate most of the flights as W pattern.
DeleteIf they have any idea about expanding, they could have launched already Manchester, Bremen, Leipzig, Turin, Genoa, Bilbao, Bergen, Nantes, Gdansk and so many more. But they are able only to copy successfull JU routes. I expect Las Palmas or Lanzarote from winter time table.
DeleteWizz do not fly to Manchester at all and will not from Serbia. The copying Ju's successful route issue is getting rather dull. Move on.

ReplyDelete1. Wizzair keeps the base and the operations, reduce pressure on AirSerbia by launching the same routes. They already profited heavily on this free marketing.
2.AirSerbia keeps on growing released by the Wizzair pressure.
3. Both of them continue growing happy to be protected from further competition like Ryanair.
4. Airport is happy as they maintain growth in the future, steady, but sure thanks to their 2 based airlines.
5. Government proclaims the great success of them by keeping Wizzair and announce further investments in AirSerbia.

ReplyDelete1. Wizz are forced to close the base which creates significant online anger, especially amongst wealthier and more mobile youth. The government just keeps quiet about it and hopes it will go away. Wizz then increase significantly their presence on the market via third bases or increasing frequencies drastically where possible.
2. Wizz are forced to close the base and reduce their operation to base minimum. This causes a general lack of confidence for LCC operations in the airport and within a year things are reassessed. JU make some figurative attempts to expand, but are limited by aircraft and nature of their business model.
3. The government and Wizz make a deal to keep the base and its quietens down very rapidly although Wizz no longer has confidence in cooperation and sees little need to expand its operation on the market.
4.The government and Wizz make a deal that allows the base to stay and Wizz respond with significant growth in the coming year which triggers another bought of protectionism.
anyway, its a real shame for the average consumer.

How many of those 10 are year-round?
DeleteIndeed, however their business model heavily needs transfers. The point is they cannot launch places like Malmo, Eindhoven etc. But yes. JU are good we should not want either to less in the city. No real aviation fan would want that..none.
Delete@13.10 5 are year-round and 2 are winter seasonal which helps reduce seasonality. Not good enough for you? Not enough for you?
