Competition is good, however, I'm not too excited when it comes to this particular route since it looks like the duopoly works so well they don't have to fight on price that much...

Wizz need some guts to start Bratislava

BTS-BEG won't work, there are just too many flights to VIE. Also prices are more or less ok so people won't rush to book BTS flights.

Only way I could see them do it is if they introduce W flights in case their base closes. However Wizz Air just announced Palermo base so this is another destination it can be served by a non-BEG plane in the future.

Bratislava is double closer To Vienna than Memmingen to Munich. Yet Memmingen is doing great. Why wouldn’t Bratislava do at lest fine?

My guess is that FMM covers a lot more than just Munich. There is also Salzburg, southern Bavaria and eastern Wurttemberg. Also, until recently LH had a monopoly to MUC so their prices were quite high.

I remember they cut it when they closed one route from Poland, it was I think either Katowice or Gdansk. INI CEO said that next summer they are getting a new destination so let's see what it is.

Fast train to Vienna you mean? I don't think it will be an issue. Austrian Airlines needs 45 minutes to fly between the two cities so many will stick to flying.

I will take the one with the best price and timing. Who cares about aircraft on such a short route.

I prefer Air Serbia, difference is like 40 euros which is a lot for frequent travelers.

Very short routes with an A321 are not that common. Wizzair's shortest that i can think of (that doesn't involve overwater flights like Bari-Tirana [which is its shortest i think] is Budapest to TGM which has a huge Hungarian populace.

Well in places like MUC the pressure is real since JU is a newcomer. LH will want to crush them and push them out, that is why they need to keep a high number of frequencies.

I would disagree with that statement, Salzburg is very well connected by rail and highway, and with the VIE and MUC

I think VIE is just too far from SZG to catch a train. I think most would go to FMM or MUC or just fly via VIE with OS.

There's literally super efficient train link from Salzburg to Vienna, it also runs through the airport.

The train between Salzburg and Vienna takes around 3h, Munich more 3.5h, city airport is max 20min by bus from city centre

Bolje i pun ATR nego sa praznim mestima Embraer. 3x dnevno ATR-om pored OS je sasvim dovoljno.

Ne bi bio prazan, razlika je 40 mesta. Veći kapacitet,više jeftinijh karata i postaju konkurentniji u odnosu na OS. Pojedini letovi su zaista preskupi.

I fly to VIE quite often and 60% of the time it's with OS. Those night flights are always packed on the A320, it's crazy. A few weeks ago we landed in VIE and I was suprised when I saw that half the plane went out in Vienna!

Austrian is not pricey if you transfer in VIE, while JU carries more P2P passengers

JU also carries transfers from/to VIE. Not many but there are some.

On May 1st I flew BEG-VIE with an OS A321 and there were only 110 passengers. Very bad LF.

Anonymous16:49 Makes sense, but also it does not. Austrian is an option for many people to connect to other parts of Europe and even long haul destinations. They won't 'lose' per se, they might just lose in the point to point passenger race. It is also expected that the train will be introduced from Belgrade to Vienna, so daily they can pick up as many as 500 passengers one way (a theoretical maximum but it also depends who will be the operator, probably MAV), especially during the first month of a promotional period. The trip will last 6 hours, which is almost the same as taking a plane when you count traveling to the airport, check in, passport control, boarding, and then getting into the city. We don't know how people will react, so we shall see. So far, I don't think that OU and JU have a reason to increase capacity even more or compete. Maybe some minor changes, but so far it's good. The Belgrade to Vienna market is huge, there is room for everyone.

I flew JU VIE-BEG in May and we were 38 passengers also bad LF.
I don't think JU and OS would be adding flights if our LFs were the norm.
