Low cost carrier Eurowings has revised its operations for the upcoming 2026/27 winter season, temporarily suspending three routes in the region, accompanied by a reduction in frequencies and capacity.

The airline will pause its Stuttgart - Zagreb service between January 11 and February 26. Prior to the suspension, flights will operate twice per week in November and December, down from three weekly. In contrast, the route was maintained throughout the entire 2025/26 winter season. Eurowings is scheduled to operate 184 flights at Zagreb Airport and offer 32.772 seats during the coming winter, representing respective declines of 20.6% and 16.6% on the previous year.

The Lufthansa subsidiary will also suspend Stuttgart - Sarajevo flights from November 28 until March 1, although limited operations will be maintained over the holiday period on December 23, 26 and 27, as well as January 5, 7, 9, 14 and 16. Until late November, the service will run twice per week. Last winter, the route was suspended for a shorter period, between January 17 and February 19. Eurowings has also scaled back its planned Cologne - Sarajevo schedule from the planned three to two weekly flights for most of the winter, matching last year’s frequency. Overall, the carrier will operate 202 flights at Sarajevo Airport and provide 32.772 seats, down 6.3% and 11.2% respectively.

Flights between Cologne and Split will be paused from November 22 until March 21, with a limited holiday service on December 20, 22, 24, 27 and 31, and January 3, 5 and 10. Last winter, the route was suspended only between January 8 and February 19. The carrier has also reversed plans to increase Stuttgart - Split frequencies from two to three weekly. Eurowings will operate 278 flights at Split Airport during the winter season, offering 44.916 seats, representing declines of 13.7% and 13.1% respectively on the previous year.

Services between Munich and Pristina will be suspended from January 9 until March 20. Prior to the suspension, flights will operate once per week throughout November and December, with several additional departures at the end of the year during the holiday period. In contrast, the route was maintained twice per week for the entirety of the previous winter season.

Stuttgart - Sarajevo has a large diaspora market, but even that is apparently insufficient to support regular flights during the quietest part of winter.

Sarajevo’s overall reduction is relatively modest because Cologne flights will continue throughout most of the winter.

Stuttgart–Zagreb appears to be increasingly seasonal. With Lufthansa also reducing its Zagreb schedule, the coming winter will be noticeably weaker.

The reductions probably reflect weak off-season demand rather than any long term problem with these markets. Croatia and Bosnia remain highly seasonal.

The decline in seats at Sarajevo is greater than the reduction in flights. Presumably Eurowings will deploy smaller aircraft more frequently than last winter.
