easyJet launched its fourth route from Ljubljana yesterday by introducing flights to London Luton, complementing its existing services from London Gatwick and Manchester, as well as seasonal operations to Edinburgh. The low cost airline planned to launch flights between Luton and Ljubljana in March 2020 but was unable to do so due to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Operations will be maintained three to four times per week, depending on the month. easyJet will further expand its Ljubljana presence next April, when it introduces flights from Berlin.
Ljubljana Airport’s CEO, Juergen Deischl, said, “The UK is one of our strongest growth markets. More than 160.000 passengers travelled between Ljubljana and the UK in the first eight months of 2026, an increase of 48% year on year. These figures matter. But what matters more is what connectivity makes possible: tourism, trade, investment and stronger links between people and businesses”.
Meanwhile, easyJet has completed its acquisition of the Ljubljana-based maintenance specialist Adria Tehnika following the resolution of a legal dispute that had delayed the transaction. The takeover, first announced in December 2025 and initially expected to be finalised in early 2026, had secured approval from Slovenia’s competition authority but was subsequently suspended by a court ruling linked to a dispute between the now former shareholders of Adria Tehnika’s parent company. The transaction was ultimately completed on October 12, clearing the way for the maintenance provider to become part of the easyJet Group. Adria Tehnika operates a five-bay maintenance facility at Ljubljana Airport and has performed more than 200 major maintenance checks on easyJet aircraft over the past decade. The acquisition forms part of the British low cost carrier’s strategy to bring more heavy aircraft maintenance operations in-house.

Nice to see that the first few flights are nearly sold out. (Mainly because of the "krompirjeve" school holidays.). After that, some November flights haven't been selling the best, but I hope the route turns out successful and remains at least four per week for the next summer season as well.
ReplyDeleteTo be expected, they knew it from the getgo scheduling only 2 weekly flights throught the winter, and then expaning the flights to 4 weekly. I think it's going to be a success either way :)
DeleteAdmin any idea if their schedule for the summer is finalizd yet? A bit of an odd gap in the peak months...
ReplyDeleteIt isn't.
DeleteIt's finalised as published. The gap is not odd. Ljubljana is a non-coast destination and as such it gets fewer frequencies in peak summer.
Delete@16.57 This is not true. Both easyJet and British Airways this year introduced extra frequencies in peak summer (July and August), so I would definitely presume the schedule is not finalised and will get added later.
DeleteWhere is the threshold of number of destinations where basing one/two aircraft might be viable for them? Especially with them now owning Adria Tehnika
ReplyDeleteZero because its mainly easyJet UK flying
DeleteAdria Tehnika services both G, HB and OE registered planes
Deleteservicing is something else
DeleteeasyJet UK will not open a base in LJU for UK flights, what an absurd idea
Who said anything about UK branch? What stops Austrian branch from operating LJU-UK flights?
Deletecompany's own strategy
DeleteUK market is really growing extremely fast in LJU this year, and with the acquisition of Adria Tehnika, easyJet really is investing a lot in the slovene airport. Hopefully they expand the route portfolio even more in the future. I can see them flying Porto, Basel, maybe Amsterdam and to some of their Spanish bases.
ReplyDeleteAmsterdam and Paris are both viable because we lost Transavia on both in the span of a year. KLM is not P2P at all, as most of us use it for connections to Americas
DeleteAmsterdam should be no brainer for them as a next destination after Berlin
DeleteThey have it listed as destination on the map!
DeleteBecause they will have a one-off flight. It was reported here a few months ago.
DeleteSo in summer EasyJet will offer: 7 weekly to LGW, 4 weekly to LTN, 2 weekly to MAN, 2 weekly to EDI and 2 weekly to BER. 17 flights at a minimum (LGW ran 8 times per week this summer), not too bad
ReplyDeleteLGW will probably be 8 weekly in 2027 as well, if they don't increase it even more. LTN has the potential to go 5x per week as well. And with 9 weekly to LHR with British, UK will now be covered very well.
DeleteI do think that BA is missing with twice weekly LCY. If that doesn't happen LHR should be 10x weekly at minimum this year.
DeleteLCY only has three direct destinations east from Germany, they don't have any in Scandinavia, so there is zero chance LJU is on their list, but the expansion in LHR is quite possible, their flights during the summer are > 95 % full.
DeleteIf I remember correctly Split had LCY flights a few years ago?
DeleteIt did as of 2026.
DeleteIt will be great to see Easyjet flying to five destinations from Ljubljana next spring. Hopefully they launch more routes in the future such as Orly, Amsterdam (which will not be served by any other LCC like they have before) and maybe even Milan.
ReplyDeleteDidn't they try Milan a while ago?
DeleteThey announced it in 2010 but canceled it before the fights began. Maybe they could try it again, but I wonder how much the route would be used, I don't think Milan is exactly a destination where Slovenes would be rushing to.
DeleteRome would be better, but Milan is something that a lot of Slovenians use just to "kurčiti se", so summer twice weekly would work. I wonder if Berlin will get expanded before the start of the summer season. The tickets are about 150€ in some cases
DeleteMilan would for good with further easyJet (or other carrier) connections. I doubt Berlin will be expanded this year, from what I've noticed, in LJU easyJet likes to sell more expensive tickets to less pax rather than try to capture as much demand as possible with cheap tickets. During the summer, a lot of flights to EDI were 200 eur or more one way, and the LF was around 80 % during the summer.
DeleteMilan is too close
DeleteIn December, Ljubljana is going to be full of Brits with 12x weekly easyJet flights to the UK throughout the month. Ljubljana could definitely improve their Christmas market, December really has the potential for more tourism.
ReplyDeleteA shame that EDI isn't flown around new years eve time
DeleteHopefully their autumn numbers are good and they think about expanding the service next year. It is good that its gonna return, even though the LF was "only" around 80 %.
DeleteAs someone above noticed - they are selling tickets for 150€ one way, so the yields are great at 80%
DeleteFriday 18th June 2027 - one way Ljubljana - Manchester ticket is currently being sold for ... 371 POUNDS
DeleteI’m 100% that if they went for the strategy of “capture all the demand with cheapish tickets”, MAN would work 3x per week.
DeleteNope
DeleteNo water canon salute? Disgraceful.
ReplyDeleteThey stopped doing it all together and they now welcome only new airlines, which i think it's fair enough
Delete15.38 Anon Agree. For new airlines it makes sense...
