Adria crew plan June 1 strike

Growing discontent among Adria Airways staff leads to strike

Adria Airways cabin crew members will launch industrial action on June 1 amid growing anger over their working conditions. The strike will be held due to the termination of all collective agreements with the airline’s trade unions and the negotiation of new terms. Adria’s management says it will review the strike demands in the coming days, but remains hopeful the action can be averted. However, the carrier notes it will ensure that a minimal number of employees will continue working during the strike, in line with Slovenian legislation. In October 2014, Adria’s trade unions were informed that all collective agreements would be annulled if they failed to agree to new cost cutting measures by the end of the year. Since all of the airline’s unions rejected the measures, the collective agreements have now been terminated, while terms of the new agreements are unacceptable for Adria’s crew members.

The head of the cabin crew union, Gordana Boberič, said in a statement that the strike has the backing of the majority of staff, as the employer has failed to respond to warnings regarding a number of violations. “The working conditions are worsening while pressure to reduce wages is mounting”, Boberič said, adding that the strike demands include payment of wages in accordance with labour laws and the collective agreement. Cabin crew also want the employer to provide mandatory rest for crew, better regulate overtime work and days off and stop with the illegal employment on fixed-term contracts. Employees at Adria Airways Tehnika, which maintains Adria’s aircraft, are also unhappy, with the Trade Union of Transport and Communication issuing a list of demands that includes overtime payments and on-time wages. "Violations relating to salaries, including delays and payments in instalments, have been going on for years", union representative Matej Jemec said. The management has been given until May 31 to remedy the situation, or face the possibility of a strike. Mr. Jemec said staff are unhappy as the situation has not improved despite the company returning to profitability last year.

Adria Airways says that if the stoppage goes ahead it hopes to maintain some of its flights. “It is in the interest of both parties to resolve outstanding issues”, the carrier said in a statement. It added that the much publicised service between Maribor and London Southend, which is to launch on the day of the strike, on June 1, will not be affected by the industrial action. The planned strike comes as the Slovenian government looks to sell its 91.6% stake in the carrier.

    So much for everything being fine and dandy at Adria. They are still perusing cost cutting? They have been doing that for the past five years at least. Slovenian media are also reporting of some financial magic to show profit in 2014.

      Cost cutting is going to be a permanent thing for all carriers from now on. There is just too much competition and margins are very tight for everyone.

      That being said, I wonder how long it will be before management at all airlines realizes that they can't shit over their employees anymore like they have been doing since the global economic crisis has begun.

      Pilots, mechanics, and cabin crew are responsible for keeping hundreds of people safe everyday. Based on the amount of revenue every one of them brings into the company, and the responsibility they hold, airlines should value them more instead of trying to squeeze them for every last penny.

      Airlines can value them all they want but if passengers are only interested in the absolute minimum price airlines who do not follow Ryanair's model will suffer.

      Don't worrry, Ryanair will feel the consequences of their bottom feeding eventually. Just like the regional airlines in America are all scrambling to fill classes right now, the shortage will also come to Europe. The legacy airlines that have a history of treating their pilots well will never have a issue filling classes, but I can't say the same for the LCCs.

      First year pay almost doubled for regional first officers in America in the past two years, jumping from $20.000 to $40.000. Supply and demand in action. Some of my peers are a year or two from graduation, and airlines are already trying to get them to sign on in advance and offering bonuses.

      Boeing and Airbus have backlogs that have never been even a fraction of this size before. Someone is going to have to fly those planes, and there are simply not enough new pilots entering the workforce because various bottom feeding airlines have been abusing their employees and this means that aviation is not an appealing career choice for many.

      So, it would be a good idea for Ryanair to start treating their employees like people, not as an expense, because it is going to be much too late when the shortage reaches Europe. It costs a lot more to park planes than it does to treat your employees well.

      I doubt it. I think they all have special contracts (and Slovenia-based crew are not very happy with them). What's more I'm pretty sure they will relocate Albanian/Polish crew for the day if they are needed in LJU.

      Dakle "samo" 1:25. To je njegova ukupna plaća ili na to još idu brojna putovanja, dnevnice...

      Kabinsko osoblje u Air Serbiji ima prosječnu plaću od 1.000 EUR? Ohohoho... pa to je bolje nego u Croatiji. Malo sam iznenađen ovom cifrom obzirom da je prije par mjeseci na ovom blogu pisalo da su kabinci plačeni od 400 do 700 EUR.

      Svaka čast. To su jako dobre plače, posebno za Srbiju. I sad kome vjerovati onih par od prije par mjeseci ili ovome sada.

      U Croatiji stjuardese zarade izvan sezone u prosjeku 900 EUR, u sezonu oko 1.100 EUR, perseri oko 1.300 EUR u prosjeku.

      Основица је око 450-500 евра на шта долазе дневнице, топли оброци, градски превоз... и када се све то скупи испадне око хиљаду евра месечно.
      У Ер Србији посаде обично одраде две ротације током дана, један регионалан лет и један европски. Наравно, током зиме обично одраде само један на дан.

      Што се тиче персера, они у сезони могу да достигну и две хиљаде евра што је више него супер.


      ИНН-НС шта лупеташ? Ако немаш шта паметно написати боље немој. Држи се пољопривреде пошто је то очито твој ниво. Иди сади тикве по Војводини.

      Perseri u ASL maximalno zarade 1250e u najjačim mesecima, i to sa 80-85h naleta (u prevodu ne izlaze iz aviona), dok stjuardese ne prelaze 1000e takodje tokom peak sezone.

      Regarding the stewardess salaries those are actually more then great for Serbia. Actually they are terrific since they have higher salaries than regular doctors. Now, I know that they have to retire earlier and so on so how are their pensions regulated? Do they get an office job before pension? This is a general question so any company answers is fine.

    Prije par godina, kada je počela reorganizacija Adrie u duhu opstanka firme zaposlenici odrkeli su se dio plače i boniteta. Bilo je dosta teško tada za sve. U zadnje vrjeme ide Adrii dosta bolje. Čak ima i dobit, pa je sasvim normalno, da od toga nešto imaju i zaposleni. To je po mome jedina poruka. A islim, da će se sve ljipe srediti in šrajka neče ni biti.

    I can see that for today's evening flight BEG-LJU there is 733 scheduled instead of ATR. Is that a regular occurence in this summer schedule? Does LF justify that?

    1. Albania based cabine crew contracts (temporary) and working conditions there are way lower than Slovenia based cabine crew. It looks more like a slavery contract compared to what they get in Ljubljana. And no one can complain. If you don't like go away.
    Crew in Ljubljana well protected by law. Job is secured.

    2. Older pilots of Adria gettin BIG amount of money, even more than Lufthansa pilots. That for flying way less hours x month.than Lufthansa piots.

      The old collective agreement is still valid till 16.5.2016.

      The terms of the new agreements are
      unacceptable for Adria’s crew members.

      .. because Ljubljana based crew was fed to well (and pilots well more) till now. . economical situation is changed, to have and keep a job you need a small sacrifice... well used to old style ... don't understand .. rights only no duties ... out of socialist bulb ..PRIVATIZE please Adria!

      Are you sure about the pilots? FO salary in Adria is 2000 eur + 200 eur per diem (of which you now spend 100 eur when based in Lodz ans Tirana). Captain's salary is 3300 eur. If you ask me, that is total crap.

    Treći sastanak pilota na kome će na dnevnom redu biti ta tema održaće se sledećeg ponedeljka, piše ljubljanski poslovni dnevnik Finance, ali Adrija ervejz o tome nije zvanično obavešten.

    Pilotima bi pri kupovini firme pomogla Delavska hranilnica, štedionica u vlasništvu sindikata, preneo je portal SEEbiz.eu.

    Ranije je objavljeno da se kao najozbiljniji kupac Adrija ervejza izdvojio Katar ervejz.

    KPMG je finansijski savetnik pri prodaji Adrija ervejza, odlučili su nedavno Slovenački državni holding (SDH) i Društvo za upravljanje potraživanjem banaka (DUTB).

    Država drži 69,87 odsto udela u slovenačkom nacionalnom prevozniku, DUTB 19,63 odsto, a PDP 2,08 odsto. Ukupno se, dakle, prodaje 91,58 odsto udela.

    Here in Canada, Serbian travel agents are advertizing AC+JU seat sale to BEG (arround 1200CAD for the high season-pretty good deal I think). I was told that this is via MUC, ATH and other places where AC flies and it's not offered online.

    Is this a sign of some possible cooperation in the future. Codeshare for possible transatlantic flights?

      It's most likely an interline agreement though it should be offered online.

      JU has interline agreements with a lot of companies, even some odd ones like Uzbekistan Airlines for flights via Rome and Istanbul.

    e pa bas lepo. lepe vesti. drago mi je da adriji ide sve bolje i bolje i da polako staje na noge. nadam se da ce jos dugo pozitivno poslovati i da ce zaposleni u toj slovenskoj kompaniji biti zadovoljni, veseli i nasmejani.

    Sorry to be highjacking this thread, but seems that JU is paying it's bill to BEG on time.

    BEG has payments due at the end of March of RSD 1.6 billion. Out of these, ~1 billion dinars is from Air Serbia, and of those, ~500 million dinars is from Q4 2014.

    Turkish Airlines organised a wedding ceremony for a German man and a Serbian woman. Great marketing from TK.

    The video says that it was filmed on a flight from Istanbul to Ulan Bator but it seems like it took place on the flight to Istanbul.

    Still... nice video, especially since Goran Bregovic was on board.

      It is written in the description that they met for the first time on a flight from Istanbul to Ulan Bator. This wedding happend on a flight TK 1082, which is a flight from BEG to IST.
      Very nice gesture from Turkish Airlines.

    Funny, in the time of economical crisis in Slovenia where lots of people are without a job or they work for 700 eur netto, this is really crazy. If they girls who are stewardess don't want to work, they can go somewhere else. I bet Adria could find lots of people who will work for current salaries.. Government of Slovenia need to sell this nepotistic-corrupted company as fast as possible, from the indepandance they are only generating losses and managers and families who are employed in Adria are enjoying with nice salaries and bonuses like free fares in bussines class..
