LOT suspends Belgrade and Zagreb flights until 2016

LOT Polish Airlines will temporarily suspend services from Warsaw to both Belgrade and Zagreb as a result of restructuring. In addition to the two routes, flights from Warsaw to Chisinau, Yerevan and Dusseldorf will also be terminated. However, the airline has underlined that all of the routes remain within LOT’s network and that services to Belgrade and Zagreb will resume in 2016. The final service to both the Serbian and Croatian capital cities is planned for June 30. Ticket sales have been terminated thereafter. “LOT has made the decision to announce changes to the timetable with as much notice as possible for passengers”, the airline said in a statement.

LOT cites restructuring as the reason behind the abrupt suspensions. The plan, which has been rubberstamped by the European Commission, obliges the airline to implement its last round of compensatory measures, essentially forcing the carrier to make changes to its schedule. Every European Union airline which receives state aid has to implement similar measures, the carrier said. “LOT is in contact with the European Commission and is going ahead according to current regulations”, the statement reads. LOT maintains that EU restrictions will last only until the end of the year, with the airline expected to announce new routes from 2016 in the next couple of months.

The Polish national carrier launched flights to Belgrade in 2010. Last year, Air Serbia challenged LOT on the route by launching flights to Warsaw. However, the Polish carrier has outperformed its Serbian counterpart, which has struggled on the route. During the first quarter, LOT operated 53 return flights from Belgrade, up 31% on last year and will maintain daily services to the city until its suspension at the end of June. On the other hand, the Polish carrier launched five weekly flights to Zagreb this April following the demise of EuroLOT, which maintained daily services from Warsaw. LOT will boost its Zagreb operations to daily from June 4 until its temporary suspension. Last month, both LOT and Croatia Airlines entered a codeshare partnership, with the Polish carrier adding its flight numbers and code onto Croatia Airlines’ services from Zagreb to Split, Dubrovnik, Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna. On the other hand, the Croatian carrier placed its codes and flight numbers onto LOT’s services between Zagreb and Warsaw, as well as from Warsaw to Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna.

This will be very good for AS. There are no more conventions from WAW to ZAG so that automatically means more transfer passengers for BEG

      ZAG - WAW via FRA = 310 E layover 4h25m

It was just question of time when one of airliners will drop this line LOT or ASL. Even it was nice for passengers to fly with just 100 euro it was obviously that both airliners loosing lot of money.
It not necessary mean that this will be too bad for passengers. Line must be profitable or airliner will drop it at the end.

@B*N*V naravno da hoće. Zbog regulativa EK i programa rekonstrukcije, letovi za 5 destinacija su privremeno ukinuti. Treba puniti B787 prijatelju i njegove letove preko bare. LOT je odmah počeo da prodaje svoje letove za BEG preko ASL.

The only difference is that they might return to Zagreb as it's far less competitive.

2ned runway can't be paralleled close to the main runway so close, there are air traffic rules on this very issue, reason why runways are separated by at least 1000m, exception being if only one runway is used at times as an emergency runway, and I don't see Serbian state paying $100 million for 2nd runway airport doesn't need. Also plans for expansion are clear, 11000 sqm add to current terminal including 4 more gates Air Bridges.

Enough with the second runway, what one of the members said, BEG needs terminal extension and not 2nd runway. Now, someone might say, BEG needs 2 runways because one needs to be repaired. Well, it is possible to repair the runway with operations. Close one small portion and work on, close another small portion and so on. Also from 12-6 there is limited movement. What most people are forgetting is that not only does it cost to build 2nd runway but there are also costs associated with the maintenance. Even if Serbia had money to spare (which it does not), the 2nd runway is still unnecessary.
If we exclude ASL waves where there are like 15-20 departures and arrival within 45 min, most of the time the runway is actually DESERTED. By that I mean landing and take off every 20 min.

Here we go again....both with the 2nd runway which has been dealt with on a number of occasions. Now lately even the CEO of BEG have stated that there's no need for it.

Then INN-SNS, again you get into a thread about one topic and when people (Vaske) is pointing this out to you, your reply is that you were referring to another topic. The same as you did on Wednesday, the topic was the concession, you pointed out that THINGS was to happened on Thursday.....and of course nothing happened. When I questioned you then, you stated that you were giving leads to the BEG-USA agreement.....why do you even bother being a part of this if you can't read and understand the topics???

It would be nice if there would be an aircraft in JU's fleet that has a capacity between 70-100 passengers, but more range than the ATR.

ATR has range but not speed. Dash 8 has problem.

Embraer, Bombardier, Sukhoi, and Mitshubishi all make regional jets. Those are nice.

Does ASL get catering from two companies? I am asking since I saw before and now two different catering trucks. One is brand new with ASL colors, and other one is albino with some small sign.

Tih 6-7 imaju JU logo, ostalih par imaju neku drugu i oni pripadaju aerodromu.

So if they belong to the airport, does that mean airport has its own catering or are they just renting? If they are renting, why would they? Isn't 6-8 trucks enough even in peak times? I actually think they both 8 since I read a while back some article.

^true, I think they have 8 MAN trucks in ASL colors, 2-3 Mercedes in ASL colors, and 2 albino ones. I thought they would stop using other trucks once MAN once came. Its worth mentioning that those MAN trucks could serve all aircraft except the A380 and B747. Not sure about those old Mercedes ones.

      Man-ovi su 2015 godiste a ovi Mercedesi su po izgledu 2001-2002 godiste . U INN imaju Mercedesi 2009 i bez problema opsluzuju 757 .
