Belgrade handles four-millionth passenger

Belgrade Airport surpasses four million passenger mark

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport handled its four-millionth passenger for a second consecutive year and for only the second time since opening its doors in 1962. The milestone was achieved yesterday, more than two weeks ahead of last year when the four-millionth traveller was welcomed on November 4. As a result, the airport saw over 231.572 passengers pass through its doors so far this month. Overall, the former Yugoslavia's busiest airport registered an average of 13.699 travellers each day. Passenger numbers have risen some 5% this year, while the number of aircraft movements inched up 1.7%. Last year, the airport estimated it would record growth of up to 10% in 2015, although this now seems unlikely as foreign carriers have reduced their operations to the Serbian capital and Air Serbia plans to scale back its network this winter. Nevertheless, the airport is on course to achieve its busiest year on record after it added an additional one million passengers in 2014, making it one of the fastest growing capital city airports in Europe.

The airport’s Director for Development and Investment, Ana Luković, said recently, "We have seen a real boom [in traffic] since the national flag carrier was transformed. We expect to see another boom once long haul flights start”. This year, the airport embarked on a forty million euro expansion and overhaul project with the aim to increase capacity by 35%. It has already refurbished its departure lounges and parts of Terminal 1. The airport is expected to add a further 11.000 square metres to its Terminal 2 building, which will include four jet bridges, as well as four gates from which passengers will be bussed to remote stands. Construction of the 15.2 million euro project is expected to start in December, with a tender to select a contractor for the work closing on November 1. In addition, the Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services Agency is set to start construction on a new control tower next year. Over the next two years, Belgrade Airport also plans to add an additional 20.500 square metres of jetways and platforms to cater for a new de-icing area, build a new staff building, as well as a fire and rescue base and commence work on the overhaul of its runway in 2017. All of the construction work is currently being financed from the airport’s own funds. However, in the coming months, the state will also have to decide whether it will put the airport up for concession. A consultant for the matter is expected to be selected within a month.

      My guess is 4,7 million, a little above last year. October will probably see growth of around 2% while NOV and DEC will probably decline.

    Unless we see ASL expand, or more LCC routes introduced, I think that BEG will stabilize and then grow proportionally to the economic development of Serbia.

    I think that further expansion is absolutely necessary for ASL. Frequency is very important, and greater connectivity could increase loads despite the greater capacity that it would bring.

    The ATR fleet should be increased to 10 operational planes before the start of summer.

      When I commented on Monday that Zagreb Airport should have ordered cushioned seats rather than cold metal ones for their new terminal I was told how no airport in the world orders cushioned seating. Guess they were wrong...

      Larnaca also has cushioned seats and so does Athens. I am sure many other airports have them too. They are far more comfortable than the metal ones.

      This area on the photo is great. It is behind some wall so you are not directly exposed to the main pathway and you have a beautiful view of the tarmac. My only peeve was the free wi-fi. It worked but was a bit slow. Everyone sitting in this area was on their phone or tablet so that might have been the reason..

    Air Berlin is suspending all flights to Russia. I know the situation in Russia is quite bad but it's not that bad. It only goes to prove how disastrous the situation in AB really is. With Ryanair and Eurowings expanding in Germany, it can only mean that the situation in AB will steadily go from bad to worse.

      Lufthansa has also cut 70% of their destinations and reduced frequencies on the remaining 30%. So yes, the situation is quite bad and Air Berlin probably didn't want to compete for a slice of a constantly decreasing cake.

      The taxi problem was never resolved. Yes it is possible to get a taxi voucher in the arrivals, however you still have the annoying illegal taxi drivers trying to lure pax into their cabs.

      The taxi fare from the airport as well is a rip off. From Novi Beograd to the airport ive paid around 800-900 din whilst from the airport 1500 din.

      Handpicked words in defense of taxi criminals... 70 eur from airport to Trg Republike, that's only 20km. JFK to Manhattan is 17 miles or about 28 km. Car ride JFK to Manhattan is from $48, or 43 eur (https://www.dial7.com/). Legal, no taxi mafia Lincoln black car ride in one of the most expensive cities in the world, 8km longer than the one in Belgrade for a lot less than your proposal? Funny guy! Taxi mafia can be completely removed in Belgrade without new prices if there is a will to do it.

    Jako mi je drago kad vidim tako dobar uspeh LYBE ali onda kad vidim da nema ni jedna nova linija dodjemo na isto.
    Velika je steta sto se ASL ne siri agresivno nego je ostalo sve na istom jedino raduju buduci letovi za JFK.

    Него... има ли неко рационално објашњење, зашто је веб сајт аеродрома у мизерном стању? Чини ми се да је први икада израђен сајт пре хх година био боље решен за кориснике него овај сада. Поготово ред летења је скроз унеређен, непрегледан и безвредан.

    Па сајт београдских пијаца има корисније информације о производима који се тамо налазе, него сајт АБ. Овакав какав је увреда за оног чије име носи

      Mnogo veći problem od beg.aero su nemušte info table na samom aerodromu. Srpski državni dizajn je uvek išao vek unazad, iako smo uvek imali sjajne dizajnere na umetničkim fakultetima. Sada se isprobavaju "shadow" efekti sa slovima i mogućnosti kolor televizije.

      Pogledajte recimo monitore na MUC kako se jednostavno radi, bude lepo i pregledno, a istovremeno jako moderno.
