Adria Airways will suspend several of its routes, including flights from Ljubljana to Stockholm, as well as services from Tirana to Paris and Brussels this month. Furthermore, the carrier has cancelled its planned new route from the Slovenian capital to Cologne. Adria has confirmed it will terminate its service to the Swedish capital as of April 10. The airline maintains two weekly flights on the route. Services to Cologne, which were initially planned to launch three times per week on March 28, were pushed back to April 20 before being scrapped. The airline says passengers who have already booked tickets will be offered alternative transport or refunded. In January, Adria suspended its daily service from the Slovenian capital to Istanbul.

The airline is scheduled to operate its last nonstop service from Tirana to Paris this Thursday. Ticket sales have been suspended thereafter. While flights to Brussels have been temporarily cancelled until April 13 due to the recent terrorist attacks at the Belgian airport, no tickets have been put on sale afterwards, indicating that this service will be suspended as well. Flights from Tirana to both Paris and Brussels were launched last summer and operated three times per week. During the 2015/16 winter season, the two were linked, with the airline operating flights  to the French capital via Brussels. The Slovenian carrier will maintain services from Tirana to Ljubljana, Frankfurt and Munich, with the latter launched only last week.

Adria Airways was purchased by the German turnaround fund, 4K Invest, last month. At the time, the airline's new CEO, Arno Schuster, said there would be no major changes to the network. "We want growth with the existing network and we want to make it more efficient", Mr Schuster said. Last week, it was announced Adria would launch new flights from its hub in the Polish city of Lodz to Paris. In addition, yesterday the Slovenian carrier scheduled its previously announced new service from Poland's 21st largest city, Olsztyn, to Munich. Flights will operate three times per week starting June 17. The airport is Poland's newest, opened only this January. Adria is also tipped to announce new services from Rzeszow, in south-eastern Poland, to Paris.

My guess: Cologne was selling poorly, Stockholm was worst performing in the network, TIA flights cancelled because they were performing poorly and Lufthansa just launched Frankfurt-Tirana. Evidence that TIA-CDG and TIA-BRU was doing badly is linking them during the winter.

If I remember correctly Stockholm was also cancelled During Adria restructuring and resumed only recently.

It seems the only lucrative business for Adria is its involvement in the Nordica brand, so the new owners plan on capitalising on that and turning the airline into (at least partly) an ACMI solution.

You can read this as a first step forward Eurowings Slovenia with very clear business concept. Next step after the summer season will be transformation OU into Eurowings Croatia with major cuts in frequencies and further harmonization with LH group.

I wouldn't go that far with the LH conspiracy. It is simple - the new owner does not want to keep Adria, they want to sell it as soon as possible and make profit out of it.

To make a good price, they need to clear the company of anything that generates costs rather than profit: routes, aircraft, people...

Then, when the carrier is made only of money-making components, the owners will be able to look for a good bargain. This also means no growth for Adria (the company can only shrink) but this is how it works. You can never get a good price if you sell something that generates costs (unless you are lucky to ride the Etihad wave, which Adria unfortunately is not).

MGX i ADR nece postojati u do sada poznatom obliku, dok slicna sudbina ceka i CTN u 2017. godini.

    Question: how realistic is SKP-FRA?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous10:04

If W6 succeeds in lowering the price-tag for the Vienna-Bratislava market, OS will probably follow, and demand from both sides will be on the rise (SKP to Vienna/Bratislava area and vice versa).

With more O&D traffic sustaining the OS SKP-VIE route, it could become less dependent on transit pax and thus 'giving' them to LH and FRA (and possibly Munich).

I think two daily E-190 or even maybe a combination between the E-190 and an A319 could work fine for LH on the FRA-SKP route.

I see an issue that they published their summer schedule well in advance - in January because they wanted to show how new owners won't affect the network. And then they wait until summer starts and cancel a number of routes. And they always seem to announce the cuts days before the suspension comes into place. They did the same with Istanbul.

It is obvious. LJU is already too expencive. They will cancel some routes to free one CRJ up and base it in MBX where fees are way smaller. And they will get pax also from ZAG, GRZ and Hungarian area, when also the their tickets will be cheaper.

Yes, everybody knows MBX is a gold mine and yet still nobody flies to/from there.

Remember how long did the MBX-SEN route last? I can't see Adria basing an aircraft there, especially now when they are not bound to respect political opinions and wishes.
