easyJet marks Dubrovnik milestone

easyJet has carried its one millionth passenger on flights to and from Dubrovnik since it launched operations to the city in 2009. The airline now serves twelve destination to nine countries from Dubrovnik and says it plans to expand even further in the future. Dimitris Schoinas, easyJet's Senior Route Manager, said, "We are extremely happy to be reaching our one million passenger milestone at Dubrovnik Airport in beautiful Croatia, which is proving very popular among European holidaymakers. We have come a long way since our first flight to Croatia in 2009, and we are looking forward to the future, as we fly our next million passengers to and from Dubrovnik". Frano Luetić, the Deputy General Manager of Dubrovnik Airport, noted, "We thank easyJet very much for outstanding cooperation during the entire period of its operations into Dubrovnik. We can also confirm the huge contribution easyJet has made to our passenger numbers". He added, “easyJet is now ranked as the second busiest carrier at our airport in terms of passenger numbers, taking into consideration that more than 55 carriers are operating into our airport". The budget airline handled 189.328 travellers to and from Dubrovnik last year, making it the second busiest after Croatia Airlines with a market share 11.2%. Meanwhile, Dubrovnik Airport handled its millionth passenger of the year this morning.

    EasyJet and other airlines which serve Croatia and other places on a seasonal basis and have say at least 10 destinations should be required to maintain a year long presence of some sought by the EU in the interest of fairness.

    They obviously would not have to maintain flights to every destination but some type presence should be required.

    Thoughts??

      Covek je cist idiot kada postavlja ovakva pitanja. To ne mozes da negiras i brises. U EUropskoj avijaciji postoji pravilo koje dopusta vladine subvencije na nekim linijama i jos ima mogucnost da gosoda
      iz Dubrovnika preusmeri pare iz donacija gradjanima na donaciju kompanijama. Samo
      ne mozes da trazis ovo sto on pise.

      If the likes of Easyjet are able to offer large amounts of seasonal services to a destination within the EU, would it not be in the interest of fairness (which is what the EU is trying to achieve) that they are required to maintain some type of presence in the off season, even if it is just one destination.

      It would be positive for continued regional development and could also help traditional carriers get back to a more level playing field with the low cost carriers.

      As those easyJet routes are subvent by Dubrovnik and Croatian tourist board (50:50) I said that they must insist some of those flights must stay during winter, if not there should be no subventions. Of course they can not stay on all routes, but if one insist they have to stay on at least one weekly flights on 25% of their routes that should do the trick. That means:

      # easyJet 11 routes in summer = at least one weekly flight on 3 routes

      # Norwegian 10 routes in summer = at least one weekly flight on 2 routes

      # Eurowings 7 summer routes = at least one weekly winter flight on 2 routes

      # the same with Jet2 which have 7 routes in summer

      # an with Thomson (7 routes in summer)

      # Scandinavian with 4 routes in summer = 1 flight on 1 route in winter

      # the same with Volotea (4 routes in summer)

      If not they could not get any subventions (and with almost 1 million EUR of subventions there should be some influence).

      Alternatively they should stay on 10% of their summer flights during winter.

      Takvi ste kompletni ekonomski idioti i tako ce vam Easy Jet ostati zimi. Jos ce da finasiraju i CTN. Uz sve lepote Dubrovnika nema nista od toga. Prvo ukinite letnje subvencije i prebacite na zimske.
