Swiss International Air Lines will suspend services between Zurich and Sarajevo at the end of the 2016 summer season, making it the fourth destination in the former Yugoslavia to be terminated by the carrier this year. In a statement to EX-YU Aviation News, the airline said, "We will discontinue our service to Sarajevo with the start of the winter timetable as a result of demand-related adjustments to our network. This is part of a continuous process in which we regularly assess and reassess our destination portfolio on the basis of the respective market conditions and their potential". Swiss will operate its last service between Zurich and Sarajevo on Friday, October 28. The airline is maintaining three weekly flights on the route this summer.
Earlier this year, Swiss terminated services from Zurich to Ljubljana, as well as from Geneva to Sarajevo and Belgrade. Furthermore, its subsidiary Edelweiss Air has cancelled flights from Zurich to Podgorica. It comes following Swiss' aggressive expansion into the former Yugoslav market last summer when it launched operations from Zurich to Ljubljana, Zagreb, Sarajevo and Podgorica (operated by Edelweiss), as well as from Geneva to Sarajevo and Skopje. As a result, Sarajevo will no longer have a direct air link to one of Europe's busiest airports. Previously, B&H Airlines maintained flights between the two cities but the route was suspended after the airline was grounded in June 2015.
In a statement last year, Swiss told EX-YU Aviation News, “The former Yugoslav market is very interesting for Swiss, as there is a big community from the Balkan area living in Switzerland. Therefore, there is a high demand for flights to these countries. We focus on our customer’s needs from and to Switzerland. The growth is based on our market analysis that identified a great demand for the Balkan area. It is an important and big market for Swiss". The carrier's Star Alliance partner, Croatia Airlines, could potentially launch flights between Sarajevo and Zurich. It plans to open a base in Bosnia and Herzegovina's capital during the summer of 2017. The airline has previously said it will define its plans by the end of the year.

Comments
To me it seems like their sales team for this part of the world is rather incompetent.
To BEG at least I notice they have been sending A321s lately.
Who knows, maybe they will bring back double daily frequencies as more and more C-series arrive.

Can't wait for the C-series to become a daily visitor.
Was it an A319?

Also, the Swiss market is way too premium-heavy for LX to be merged with Eurowings. This does not mean EW won't be expanding in Switzerland.

OU has 10 weekly flights to Zurich and price is lower than what Swiss if offering.

For a success you need much more Point to Point(P2P) pax.
P2P = one flight for one price
Transfer = two flights for the price of one resulting in much less earnings.
Budimo realni.
During winter they have 14 weekly flights from ZAG.
There is no Swiss flights to ZAG in reservation system from winter. It can happen they will put it latter but it is very strange that 3 months in advance you can not buy ticket, but only with code-share on Croatia. That indicate it is more than possible they will stop ZAG flights in winter time-table.
When you buy ticket to third destination you can do it via any of Lufthansa group airport (FRA, MUC, VIE and ZRH).
3 months ago I had ZAG-ZRH-TLS-FRA-ZAG flight. It was the cheapest offer in LH system (they give you all possibility via all their airports for different prices).
I to nitko nije demantovao.
right move. IST yields are completely down

Obviously they sell tickets via all their hubs, I never said otherwise. I said that usually the cheapest fares tend to be via ZRH on Swiss.
Last anon,
Exactly, Switzerland is way too premium heavy for it to have a lowcost as its national carrier. The only thing that might happen is for Eurowings to takeover some low-yielding routes (like ex-YU) and to replace Edelweiss on certain long-haul, leisure routes.
As for Cyprus Airways, I lived in Cyprus for over 14 years so it's because of that. :)
either you don"t know what you're talking about or you need to elaborate on your definition of competition:
in SKP you have 2 major alliances present:
Star with Adria, Croatia, Austrian and Turkish and Sky with Alitalia and CSA. Furthermore you have Air Serbia and Fly dubai. And then you have the budget carriers like Wizzair and Germania.
INN-NS
Irrelevant. What BEG needs is a transit hotel, accessible on foot from the terminal building, or at the very least on the airport grounds with round-the-clock free shuttle service. There are loads of hotels in Belgrade, why would BEG need one more of those downtown? It makes no difference whatsoever in what is currently offered to pax.
"More frequencies on selected European routes
SWISS will also be raising its frequencies between Zurich and a number of cities in Europe this winter in response to increased demand. Hamburg receives four new weekly flights, Berlin two, Krakow two and Belgrade one. At the same time, services will be suspended for the winter period between Zurich and Zagreb, Sarajevo and Istanbul."
i think you can book as early as May
