Tivat Airport terminal construction to commence

The construction of Tivat Airport's new multi million euro terminal is expected to commence this winter, several months behind schedule. Airports of Montenegro, which runs Tivat Airport, is to begin tendering procedures for work on the 32 million euro expansion project over the next month, while environmental and social due diligence is underway to assess the potential issues associated with the project. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is set to decide whether it will provide a twenty million euro loan for the terminal construction and a final review is currently pending. The EBRD will make its decision on November 30. Initially, construction work was expected to begin in April.

  

The expansion project includes the construction of a new 13.000 square metre terminal to the north of the existing facility, as well as the extension of the manoeuvring area and the rehabilitation and extension of the runway in order to achieve compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) safety standards. Tivat Airport's capacity is already insufficient to handle the high demand during the peak summer months. It has been identified as a barrier to growth of the country’s tourism industry by limiting the access of international tourists to Montenegro. The project will address this issue by increasing handling capacity of the passenger terminal to three million travellers per year and adding a further nine aircraft stands that will provide sufficient capacity for the next ten years and improve service quality.

  

The project is expected to improve safety standards and achieve compliance with the relevant ICAO recommendations. Furthermore, it will promote private sector involvement in non-aeronautical commercial activities at Tivat Airport, incorporate innovative elements of advanced sustainable building technologies at the new terminal and adopt internationally recognised certification for the airport's operations (Airport Carbon Accreditation). Meanwhile, the redevelopment of Tivat Airport's control tower is entering its final stages. Valued at four million euros, the new-look 37-metre tower includes the addition of 1.700 square metres of office space at its base, while the control tower cab has been expanded to eighty square metres in size. Work has been financed by the Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services Agency (SMATSA), which controls the airspace of both countries. During the first half of the year, Tivat Airport handled 291.635 passengers, up 6.5%. It anticipates welcoming over one million travellers in 2016.

      Honestly, we now still have ZAG and DBV building new terminals with SPU and TIV having announced such plans regarding the Top 10 Ex Yu airports traffic-wise. No more than that. We all don't know if and when works might start... when they say in "winter" they should better indicate the year :) my opinion...

      please, tell me where? I don't know if you know geography of Montenegro, but between Podgorica and seaside is mountain range, with the only place for seaside airport in Grbalj valley, where they already put TIV

      Montenegro is so small, that having two airports is waste of money and time. If Podgorica was built twice as large say 20 000sqm terminal and two runways you'd have decent airport capable of handling 2-3 million pax. As is, it is a real mess and waste of resources on such a small and poor country.

      It hasn't been cancelled. Construction should start when they finish Tivat. They will also start Nis tower at the same time which will look simmilar to Tivat.

    Seems like flydubai will keep on flying to BEG with 4 weekly in stead of 3 weekly like last winter.

    BEG-Middle East this winter will be:

    TK - IST - 14x
    PC - SAW - 4x
    JU - IST - 7x
    JU - AUH - 7x
    EY - AUD - 7x
    QR - DOH - 4x
    FZ - DXB - 4x

    In total 47 weekly flights.

    I only put airlines that offer connections with these destinations which is why there is no BEY or TLV.

      Seems like QR has given up on increasing BEG to daily. This is no surprise given the fleet shortage they are currently experiencing.

      Also, will be interesting to see if EY keeps on sending its A320 to BEG. If they do then it will be a slight capacity increase when compared to W15.

    When it comes to Balkans a building projects I will see it when I believe. Zagreb started building its terminal with a 10 year delay, Split still hasn't started despite project done, Belgrade hasn't started despite project done. Usual here for everyone to miss their deadlines.

      Slicno kao u USA nema razloga za taj ton. Najvece se pare maznjavaju u gradjevini i beskonacnom zavrsavanju objekata. Samo prati koliko ce godina da grade novu LaGvardiju.

    In planning for the new terminal an issue they found is land ownership. They actually found out that a part of the land still belongs to Jat, i.e Air Serbia. The airport use to be owned by Jat. We will see what will happen.

    Dragi moj Radovane, mnogo pretpostavljate. Kakava veza ima u Božijim očima da li smo u Srbiji ili nismo? Morate da se odmaknete i dalje od vašeg Kraljevo. Dali ste mi kratko upustvo kako se komunicira na blogu o Srpskoj (I bilo kojoj)avijaciji... Sve dok me ne opomene (ako je potrebno) Administrator ovog bloga, verovacu da nisam nepristojnoscu omalovazio komunikaciju. Naravno percepcije i sloboda govora treba da bude dostupna svima.       Dok sam sa Vama polemisao, institucije i udruzenja vazduhoplovaca juce su slavili slavu Svetog Proroka Ilije. Juce sam gledao na kanalima televizije ovde u Srbiji. Vi znate da je ovde u Srbiji (i vise zemalja) Sveti Ilija, uzet za patrona (zastitnika) ljudi koji pripadaju oblasti vazduhoplovstva. Pa eto i Srbija, sekularna drzava religiozna ljudska bica koja su priznata za svetitelja dozvoljava da se javno slavi i izgovara. Vise decenija sam radeci u civilnom vazduhoplovstvu Australije, aktivno sam participirao u krugovima struke. Pogotovo u dobu interneta. To sam cinio i cinim i na Forumima (u oblasti civilne avijacije)Novog Zelanda, USA, UK,... Ponekad u mojim komentarima pomenem Bozje Ime. I te su, uz vecinu drzava sekularne. Do danas nikada me niko nije prekorio kada sam Bozje Ime pomenuo. Ovde u Srbiji, gde zivim sest-sedam meseci godisnje, na ovom Forumu sam dva puta upozoren da ne pominjem (''zloupotrebljavam''?)rec Bog. Verovatno da mnogi ljudi ovde to dozivljavaju kao ''opijum za narod''. A ne na pravo pojedinca kojim zeli da iznese stav. Svejedno, postujuci pravo pojedinca. Ne krseci zakone ove zemlje, ni vase pravo da se ne slazete samnom, Ostajte u miru I svakom dobru. Za mene ionih koji zele da zivimo s'Bogom. Rodney & Aviation Club✈+ Kraljevo Sydney.
