Air Serbia will deploy its wide-body Airbus A330-200 aircraft as a one-off on its morning service between Belgrade and Zagreb on Tuesday March 28. The larger jet is being used to mark the opening of Zagreb Airport's new passenger terminal. The 254-seat aircraft features eighteen seats in business class and 236 in economy. The equipment has already been adjusted from the usual 66-seat ATR72 turboprop in booking systems. The airline is offering promotional return fares at 59 euros for the flight. The special A330 return service takes place on the day that Air Serbia receives its 2017 Airline Market Leader award from Air Transport World in New York City. The airline's CEO, Dane Kondić, said, “We are pleased to mark the opening of the new terminal in Zagreb by operating our prestigious and unique A330 aircraft to the Croatian capital for that day only. We flew test flights to Zagreb, along with several other destinations last year, in the build-up to the launch of our New York service and so it is great to see it on Croatian ground again". He added, “The 59 euro fare will be extremely popular with guests looking to visit the new Zagreb terminal on the first day of operations and at the same time fly on our wide-body aircraft”.

ReplyDeleteTesting has already been done. It's just something airlines sometime do to mark a special occasion. Maybe another airline also sends a bigger plane.
DeleteThanks to Air Serbia, but we already saw their beautiful A330 in Zagreb! Hope some other companies will send their bigger birds next week (for example Air France, Qatar, mother Lufthansa or KLM), but I'm not to optimistic about that.
DeleteAccording to the press, there is no issue with A320 family A/C, but with wide-body A/C there is. The space between the air bridges is too small. DeleteIts not a "problem" it is by design that only the currently last gate is accepting wide body jets.

DeleteOne air bridge for wide-body jets it's enough. We will have just Emirates every day in Zagreb and 2 times per week Air Transat, also Korean few times during the summer season.
DeleteCome on, there is problem with fuel and other service vehicles at the same time. When to A320 are connected to the air bridge side by side they cannot be fueled at the same time. One boarding pass control, only 3 baggage belts.... The chance to build modern, passenger friendly airport is lost. It is just a new building. What about the transfer passengers from domestic flights? It s nice gesture from Air Serbia. That's all.
DeleteAir Transat and Emirates are in ZAG in same time. So, there will be problem at least 2 days per week (don't know Korean schedule).

I kad pricamo o trakama za prtljagu, ogranicavajuci faktor bi bila njihova ukupna duljina a ne broj pojedinih.
Will be interesting to see how much space a wide-body takes and how much of an issue this could cause. Is Zagreb usually busy during the morning Air Serbia flight?
DeleteWhat is the point of having new terminal with 3 belts, and old one has 4? The original project has been changed very much. There is sorting area on the ground floor, not in basement, there is no way that transfer can be done within 30 min. The airport tax has been increased, only 5 bus gates, only few self check in kiosk... lot of issues if I you ask me. Passenger non friendly airport building, transfer passenger hostile airport terminal. Disaster.

The number of gates old v new terminal is a bit misleading in the sense that at old Zagreb terminal all the domestic gates were connected to one small waiting room with no access to amenities. Same goes with the international gates. The new terminal improves on this 10 fold.
DeleteFrom what I see in the baggage collecting hall is that this looks more than adequate.
Even with the changes made the product is way better than what they have now. The only error they made in my opinion is reducing the size of the ramp the amount they did. I'm guessing they felt they could save some cash by still using the existing ramp. How much of an issue this will be..., we shall find out soon enough but its something they could fix quickly and with limited disruption if they want to spend the money to do so.

DeleteStajanka je tako napravljena da na jedan most može doći avion do 38m raspona krila bez da smeta drugom mostu, jedino za 8. most (najzapadniji) to ne vrijedi jer tamo mogu i veći avioni. Usporedbe radi, A320 ima raspon 34m, a A330 60m. Znači jedan wide-body može na 8. most, drugi ako dođe ili ide dalje na stajanku pa se putnici prevoze busevima, ili će blokirati dva mosta.
Dakle, izmedju 2 A320 ostaje 8 metara....i vise nego dovoljno za 2 cisterne s gorivom....
DeleteDakle ako recimo A330 blokira drugi aviomost (ne 8mi koju mu je i namjenjen), još uvijek se na tu parking poziciju može parkirati dash, crj ili neka druga manja mašina.

DeleteYeahh, the best airport there is. Tell me, have you seen the stairs from ground floor to the departure gates? Looks like bloody roller coaster. They have added the post for the border control, because they have forget about international transfer pax in the very beginning. I think that we deserve better than this half product. I rest my case.
DeleteAlso, can someone confirm if the airport has ground fuel capability? I remember reading that the ground fuel lines had been installed during the construction phase so I assumed tanker trucks would not be required only pumping trucks which usually fit comfortable under the wings.

DeleteI live in Australia where we don't have one decent airport apart from parts of Sydney and maybe Canberra. So if zig zag stairs are your only concern than you don't have anything to worry about.
There are elevators for those with escalator fobia, even at this "half-product".

DeleteAko je B777 parkiran na poziciji 8. koja je inače namjenjena širokotrupcima, onda A330 može biti parkiran na poziciju 1. sa nemogućnošću parkiranja zrakoplova tipa A318 na više ili B737 na poziciju br. 2
Isto tako, na gate br.2 može biti parkiran manji zrakoplov tipa dash/crj/fokker.

ReplyDeleteWhat a stupidity and waste of money! it is like they are making a lot of money when sending the big plane for ZAG short route while in fact they are cutting to the expenses to the bone by reducing the entire schedule. What is the point of all this?

ReplyDeleteOvo je jeftin marketing ASL, odlican potez. Poslace avion, dosta media ce biti tamo da pisu o novom terminalu na ZAG, pisace da je ASL dosla sa velikim a330 sto koriste na nonstop letovima do JFK. Pozdravljam ovakav potez ASL!
