NEWS FLASH

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport handled 108.964 passengers in March, an increase of 16% compared to the same month last year. It tops off a strong first quarter for the airport, during which it welcomed 288.355 travellers through its doors, up 17.5%. In March, the number of aircraft movements also grew in the double digits, at 16.8% for a total of 2.840. The growth is being fuelled by both Adria Airways, which has boosted frequencies on a number of routes when compared to last year's downsizing, as well as a strong performance by foreign carriers. Ljubljana Airport is due to announce plans for a new terminal building on Thursday next week.

April should be good too, since Transavia recently started flying to Amsterdam.

Also Adria has increased flights a lot compared to last summer.

So what are the predictions for 2017? Can they pass 1.6?

If they maintain their average monthly increase at at least 14%, they'll reach 1.6m. If their average monthly increase drops below 14%, they'll not be reaching 1.6m. So far with the average 17% it sure does look like they'll reach that.

But that's just the first 3 months. Let's remember that last year LJU had a positive increase in the first 3 months as well and then a decrease till october. Also, this year Aegan is not flying from LJU anymore. Also Adria will not be flying to either Gatwick(replaced by easyjet) or Berlin this summer season.

It also depends how many charter flights are scheduled for this summer, that we don't know.

And then there's also the risk factor of today's europe which are terrorist attacks or some other natural disasters. Those things always put some people off.

But yeah, if they continue on above 14% monthly average, they'll reach 1.6m :)

How much of the growth is actually contributed to Adria? Their LF doesn't seem that good and they have less flights out of LJU compared to last year, so my guess is it's other airlines responsibke for growth.
